The yummy black accents mentioned this week continue through this Novato home and into the primary bedroom! All of the rafters on this gorgeous vaulted ceiling were originally too busy on the eyes. We washed out certain details and made others stand out with a judicious use of black. “After trying to design my kitchen with the IKEA Home Planner online design tool, I realized that my kitchen required professional assistance. It was a large kitchen project with lots of cabinets and options and I needed serious help!” she says. With IKD’s design guidance, Elaine combined IKEA SEKTION cabinetry framework with white IKEA RINGHULT cabinetry and IKEA GREVSTA stainless steel cabinetry for the kitchen island, which was complemented by solid white Quartz countertops purchased from a local vendor. She also selected a variety of high-end appliances, including a Fisher Paykel refrigerator and two-drawer dishwasher; a Whirlpool microwave/oven wall combo; a Bosch induction cooktop; an XO range hood and solid maple wood flooring. The result not only matched her vision, but is budget friendly as well. “I didn’t have an exact budget for the kitchen project. I just wanted to get the kitchen I envisioned at a reasonable price. I think IKEA kitchen was well worth every penny because it looks ten times more expensive than the actual cost.”

A site unlike any other presented an opportunity for a modern take on a traditionally inspired Southern Gem. Each room provides stunning views through luminous floor to ceiling windows while expansive glass doors provide access to the Home’s variety of outdoor living spaces. Reclaimed from an old church, the antique brick coupled with old pine beams create a timeless canvas while open living and fresh architectural details compose the perfect environment for family and friends.

The addition of artificial turf to the back yard of this Gilbert, AZ home lifts the look and prevents it from looking too pale and washed out. The owners could have chosen to use light gray pavers for this area, but the gray outdoor setting and seats around the outdoor kitchen may have made the yard seem a little bland. The addition of even a small amount of artificial turf can add a whole new look to an area.

Tying multiple floors together using 6”x36” dark grey wood-looking tile, laid on a staggered patterned worked well with the tile and concrete floors next to it. Two-toned cabinetry of wired brushed hickory with a grey stain wash, combined with maple wood in a dark slate finish is a current trend. Counter tops: combination of splashy granite and white Caesarstone grounded the display. A custom-designed table of ash wood, with heavy distressing and grey washed stain added warmth. Unique Features: drawer in drawer for pot lids, pull out drawer in toe kick for dog dishes, toe space step stool, swing up mixer shelf, pull out spice storage. Built in Banquette seating with table and docking station for family meals and working. Custom open shelves and wine rack with detailed legs anchor the three sides of the island. Backsplash rail with spice rack, knife and utensil holder add more storage space. A floating soffit matches the shape of island and helps lower the showroom ceiling height to what would be found in a normal home. It includes: pendant lights for the snack bar, chandelier for the table and recess for task lights over the sink. The large triangular shaped island has eleven foot legs. It fills the unusual space and creates three separate areas: a work space, snack bar/room divider and table area.
