34" W X 47.5" L X 2" D. This extraordinary spalted maple slab was discovered in the shape of a female torso. Although beautiful, much of the lower portion had been severely compromised by decay, making the piece as fragile as it was compelling. Rather than conceal its history, I carefully reconstructed the damaged areas using traditional inlay and marquetry techniques, allowing the natural form to emerge while preserving the character that time had written into the wood. The figure is suspended within a field of black resin bordered in white, creating the illusion that it quietly floats in space. Finished with a satin matte clear coat. This lake home has a special place in my heart. Many nights were spent hosting wonderful dinner parties, surrounded by LA's finest musical talent. I was fortunate enough to add a little of my own flair to the existing water thirsty, hillside. Because of California's dry climate, these areas have no immunity to the fires that rage through the area. It's hard to see but we have a recirculating pump that's cycling the water through like a natural stream. Something that is very rare in California. We opted to reinforce the hillside with lots of drought tolerant plants that are deep rooted, so when the rain does come a couple times a year, the hillside doesn't wash out. This home is nestled in Malibu canyon. Any home that is subject to the dangers of fire should have a system in place to preserve your home. This home has a pump that sucks water from the pool in an emergency while you wait for the fire department to arrive.

A minimalist kitchen comes to life with the help of a well-chosen contrast between sleek travertine and textured flexible slate.

Home design - transitional home design idea in Portland

This 1 bed, 2 bath duplex with a home office, and garden, needed a full renovation. Tasked with creating a space that was both rustic, and minimalist, we sought to use simple and classic materials, in their most natural form. Oil-stained, knotted oak was installed on the garden level, leading to the master bed and through the home office.
