No need to rip out cabinets! All cabinets here were resurfaced (what we sometimes call "custom refacing"). We added to the top of the cabinets to have the crown moulding meet the ceiling, filling in the useless gap. While we worked, everything stayed right in place, including the appliances, and we installed this (along with a wet bar across the room) in about 7 days!
