I hired Anjali for a major landscape installation at my home. She is extremely talented and excellent at knowing plant varieties that are best for different levels of shade and soil conditions. She approaches as an artist mixing colors and textures beautifully but also has extensive knowledge and experience with so many different plant types. I absolutely love everything she designed so far and can’t wait to hire her again for future projects. It is very exciting to see things mature and flower, I enjoy being in my yard so much more now!

Anjali did an amazing job for me- our project was a transformation of my 1 acre seaside lot to upgrade the landscape and host my son's wedding. We also had a 120' long, 14' high arborvitae hedge planted by my horrible neighbor that we wanted to soften visually. Anjali did an amazing job producing a detailed landscape plan and picking out plantings, and her subs were excellent as well. Though it was not inexpensive (not her work- that of her subs) the finished result was incredible and the backdrop for the wedding coukd not have been more perfect. You should just hire Anjali immediately!! She was also very handsome on, though my project was 50' away from her home offices.

May I please have more stars to add to this rating? 5 is not enough! Bob and I had been interviewing landscape architects for about 5 years before coming to Houzz and finding Anjali. Either others were too busy or just not interested. Our project entailed rearranging existing and adding new plantings, adding stonescape and generally making it easier for us to maintain. 34 years had taken it's toll. Our first meeting went well over the time we all expected. Once listening (something many others did not do well) to how we use the yard and what we would like to see, she opened a treasure chest of native and interesting plantings, and a new color palate we found refreshing. She took what we said to heart, and our conversations continued. She found us a stone mason whose appreciation for the stone itself aligned with our love of texture and color. I am sure we were in his way constantly asking questions and, as it happens, adding more to the project. The communication between Anjali, the stone mason and her landscaper flowed easily to create a new space. It is not always easy going in home projects, but Anjali made it so. Through all the work, including an exciting shower surround not originally in the scope, she was always available, teeming with ideas and options, and aware of any expense changes. She and the stone mason solved our water management problems handily. Many rain deluges have happened since, and there are no more puddles with geese floating. Anjali and her team will be what you have been looking for, as she will listen to your needs, design to your wishes and figure out what to do with your outside living.

Anjali was the landscape architect for our re-landscaping project, which involved upgrading our whole house landscape as well as design and layout of a new patio. Anjali has an phenomenal aesthetic vision that is fantastically-balanced with sensible choices such as fit to the style and age of the house, neighborhood, native plants, sustainable lawns and gardens and fit to our life style. She was extremely diligent with the choice of materials, the selection of plants from the nursery, making multiple trips when necessary and not resting until the optimal selection was made. Our patio and landscape have turned out beautifully with four season interest in the New England context. Above all, all this was achieved while not compromising on quality, function and at a budget that was significantly lower than other landscape architects tend to charge! In addition to being the architect on the project, she also pro-actively took on managing bids from landscape contractors, and worked above and beyond to ensure that the project was executed with attention, quality and functionality. When there were a couple of issues (e.g grading of walkway), she worked with the contractor to make sure that things were rectified appropriately and immediately. Anjali is one of those rare landscape architect who brings a refined aesthetic, high quality standards, excellent project management, collaborative approach and cost consciousness to her work. We would highly recommend her !

Anjali completed a monumental "Hidden Garden" project for us, converting and reclaiming an almost 1/4 acre urban disturbed wetlands border. The brief required that the garden remain completely hidden from anyone driving by, and even from those walking in our yard until or unless you enter it. She guided us through state and local conservation permitting, wetlands commission permitting, wetlands biologist surveying, site design and installation. All told, we installed almost 70 tonnes of stone, 24 trees, 65 bushes and almost 2400 plants. The outcome is stunning and in time we hope will become award winning; at the end of one year of growth, the vision of a garden that cannot be seen until it is experienced has come to life.

We had a complex landscaping job and Anjali was amazing! A fine designer, she was also sensitive to our issues and the site. She hires amazing people, and we enjoyed working with her crew so much that we have kept them on for upkeep and other projects. Our finished design is just beautiful!

The end project is beautiful and blends in with the site. She was there every step of the way. The only reason a 4 vs a 5 is we were not totally convinced that the gravel stone will work with plowing.

Anjali Joshi redesigned our backyard replacing it with a patio. From the start, she asked us our vision for the space and designed it with our goals in mind. She was very professional and clear with the design process and what would work, and since we did not know a lot about native plants, was available to guide us with the best selections. She set realistic of how much time the project would take, with labor and supply shortagess.Her cost estimate was accurate. Anjali was always available to communicate with us when we had questions and also found us excellent contractors to do the work. She personally supervised every facet of the job including plant selection and placement. We could not be happier with our new backyard and would work with Anjali again if needed.

We've been homeowners for just over ten years. We love our historic home but given its age, we've had the nuanced experience of dealing with all manner of home maintenance and renovation contractors. Our experience with Anjali has been unique and wonderful. From the outset, Anjali listened, understood, and intuited our hopes and needs and responded to every request. To create a city garden that reflects the personality and necessities of a growing family with children and a dog, Anjali created, within our budget, a magical backyard retreat that follows the contours of our limited space and is adapted to its owners' lack of a green thumb and time for maintenance. In a seamless process, she drew up compelling sketches/blueprints of her ideas; commissioned a fabulous team to implement her vision; and continued to support us in maintaining our new garden long after the work was complete. There simply wasn't a single piece of this creative project that Anjali did not anticipate. Her plan was flawless, including plantings, irrigation, as well as support for the non-gardener in us. Every aspect of the project was designed to make our garden not only beautiful but user-friendly and durable. We have and will continue to enthusiastically refer our friends and family to Anjali!

Anjali conducted a large scale design that included both landscaping and hardscaping. The final product was stunning and perfectly reflected what I was hoping to achieve. I get many deer and other wild animals on my property and have poor soil and sun exposure, and she took all into consideration to create a beautiful design despite these circumstances. She really listens and considers one's preferences. Anjali is also very easy to work with, is a patient problem solver and communicator, and conducts herself with the utmost professionalism. I can't recommend her more highly.

I contacted Anjali about our project based on her reviews, and I'm glad I did. Ours was a large project, a total renovation of several areas of a large property. It was a hot mess - very chaotic looking. I asked her to make it look organized and serene. She did that and more, relocating large plants that were too big and were obstructing the front of the house, and putting in new plants and trees that assure some color in all seasons - and all native to this area, which I appreciate. In an area where there were a number of haphazard boulders, she designed a large and beautiful curved stone wall which gave definition and provided order to replace that chaos. She matched that wall with a stone veneer on the side of the house - something I never expected from a landscape designer. Anjali is so meticulous about everything, including being here when the workers were putting the plants and trees in, overseeing and instructing them as to where every single plant should go. When I had questions, she was quick to answer them, and she taught us how to care for our new landscaping. One thing I'll add is that when Anjali sent me the rough draft of what she was envisioning for our property, I didn't know how to read her sketches and thought that maybe we'd gotten our wires crossed. She graciously came here and walked me through it, and then I got the clearer idea of what her plan was. And that's how she is - responsive to any questions, and guiding us through the entire process. I highly recommend her!!

From start to finish our experience with Anjali was pleasant, professional, and rewarding. We inherited a backyard that was in need of a total makeover, considerable challenges and limitations, and required permitting with the RIDEM because it was lakeside. She guided us through that process, helped us envision what our our new yard could to be and how it would function, and helped us navigate the process of hiring contractors and budgeting the project. Her creative design and attention to detail, from both an aesthetic and environmental perspective - which was important to us - resulted in a unique and thoroughly enjoyable space that we enjoy every time we set foot in our transformed yard. The project was completed according to our desired time line and came in at the budget we expected. We had a great experience working with Anjali and would hire her or any of her recommended contractors again in the future.

We engaged Anjali because she shared our views on the use of native plants in our landscape, and our long-term commitment to create a native wildlife habitat. Working within DEM guidelines, she designed two rain gardens, and a raised patio that proved to be a challenge she persevered to solve. Anjali located a company that creates living walls that can be adapted for residential situations. She was immensely helpful with the coordination of various contractors hired to complete overlapping projects. All landscapes and gardens are works in progress. Anjali will continue to be a resource for advice and support as ours develops.

I am in the process of completing the renovation of a house in Newport. Anjali Joshi Design created a master landscape design for the last part of the work. I am very pleased with the plan that she designed. She was able to translate my ideas into a beautiful comprehensive plan which can be completed in phases. I believe it will add a great deal of value to the property. People walking by, who have watched the house renovation and the landscaping progress, have stopped to comment on how both compliment each other and the neighborhood. I have found Anjali to be very responsive and easy to work with. She worked hard to understand what I wanted and added complimentary elements. She also helped me find and evaluate landscaping contractors. She has inspected each stage of the work to make sure the masons and landscaper are following the plan. As I have recently moved here from the Gulf Coast, she has been very generous with her time in advising me about plants and trees in the plan. I am looking forward to completing the work with her in the spring.

Anjali helped us design a fantastic new backyard patio area with surrounding landscaping. Her design for us was fresh and creative with a somewhat modern aesthetic. She used a limited palette of materials, including corten steel and a dark granite to create hardscaping that is subtly striking and fits perfectly in the environment. The below-grade firepit Anjali designed is stunning and retains heat very efficiently. The fire pit and patio have been in heavy rotation since completion! Anjali also created a plan for plantings around the patio and on a large adjacent slope which had previously been overgrown with invasive species. Again, she recommended a limited plant palette to maximize visual impact. When recommending plants, Anjali took many things into consideration. She helped us choose plants that would be ecologically sustainable with lower watering requirements once established. She chose plants that leaf and bloom at various times throughout the year to maximize beauty and appeal. And she took into account our preferences for certain colors and plants. We are excited to see how the plants fill in and how the visual display evolves throughout the growing cycle. Additionally, Anjali recommended specific lighting fixtures and referred us to a lighting contractor who further helped to highlight her beautiful design.

It was wonderful working with Anjali. She is very knowledgeable, able to share different plant varieties that are suitable for all the different conditions on our property. She has a great eye for optimizing the use of space and incorporating all of our desires. She also came in right on budget and was flexible to our schedule. Anjali developed a full site plan that included future deck/patio options, a front stoop design, addition of fruit bearing trees and shrubs, a visually appealing border barrier to provide privacy between us and our neighbors and advice on materials for all. She built the plan in a way that will allow us to implement it over time in steps which really helps spread the impact to our budget. We can take on small parts ourselves and when we are ready we are excited to have her work as our foreman.

Anjali was a pleasure to work with. She really took the time to understand what we were looking for in a landscape design. She went above and beyond with her design and offered suggestions that made sense for our style and our budget. She is very detail oriented and always kept us updated on the overall progress. Anjali is very particular about making sure everything is done exactly how she envisioned it to be. She is in frequent contact with all contractors and has a very good relationship with them which allows for a smooth completion of the project in a timely manner. We hired Anjali for our front yard landscape project and are very happy with the final result! In fact, we liked her ideas so much, we even did some slight refinements to our backyard along the way! From our initial meeting with Anjali through the completion of the planting install, she was very detailed in her understanding and assessment of what we were wanted to do with our yard. She also continually kept in the forefront the important details of our lives as two working parents (with not a lot of spare time for yard work and maintenance), two young kids, and a dog that likes to play in the yard. She immediately brought some very nice concepts to the table, plant/bush options with pictures and walked us through her ideas. In the end, she provided a detailed plan that fit nicely with the style of our house, added curb appeal and didn't require a lot of ongoing maintenance. Along the way we had some delays on our end with another exterior house project that was also taking place in parallel. She was extremely accommodating in our need to push the landscape schedule out a bit. (We didn't want to risk other onsite contractors trampling new plantings.) She kept us on track to get the install in place as quickly as possible once we were ready to go. Throughout the project, Anjali was extremely responsive to our questions and considerations and was always very prompt and thorough in her responses. I would highly recommend her for a landscape design project. We hope to use her again in the future to make additional updates to our backyard landscape.

Anjali Joshi has been a wonderful landscape designer to work with. She is very professional, follows through with her commitments, and is detail oriented. I loved her ideas and how she was able to create a beautiful design that was within my budget. I hired her to not only design my back and side yards, but also manage the installation. I used the contractors she recommended and could not be happier. She visited the site multiple times and worked closely with the contractor so I didn’t have to worry. Phase 1 of the install (hardscape) is complete with the plant and fence install to be done in the spring. The full install was delayed due to Mother Nature being so uncooperative this wet Fall. All who have seen it thus far are extremely impressed (see below and after photos for Phase 1). I can’t wait to host family and friends at my project completion BBQ next spring!

Anjali completed a two-year project for us which included a new front walkway, a side Japanese garden, and a backyard oasis with a hot tub, fire pit, outdoor shower, deck, patio, and plantings. We started the project in 2015 and finished it in 2016. Anjali has an exquisite aesthetic and does a remarkable job balancing innovative design with practical cost considerations. She does not do what is conventional or expected, but rather had really creative ideas for how to maximize our oddly shaped backyard space. Anjali gave fantastic advice about where to invest a little more versus where she thought we could save. She was innovative in how we could use extra materials in other spaces, e.g. We used the custom iron fire pit screen extra materials to create a wall against our unattractive bulkhead. In addition, her price for her services was fair and good value. Her project management was meticulous, and she gave us 100% confidence that she was managing the project across every detail. In many instances, she found places where the contractor needed to redo something or complete the finishing touches on a job. Anjali was very pleasant to work with. She takes tremendous pride in her work and truly cares about making the client happy. She provided care documentation as well as other maintenance landscapers to help ensure we get maximum benefit for our investment. She is always available by phone, email, etc. should any issues arise. At the end of the day, the biggest compliment I can give Anjali is one that has been given to us by numerous friends as they have enjoyed our outdoor space with us - it feels like we have a complete outdoor room in our backyard - it is almost like a full house extension versus just an outdoor project.

Anjali has an incredible knowledge of plants. She was instrumental in helping us choose which plants would work well based on the climate, local wildlife, soil conditions and aesthetic. She takes the time to evaluate and explain the pros and cons of different approaches.

We hired Anjali to help us transform our smallish Wellesley, MA lot into an outdoor oasis. We are working in two stages to complete a full yard transformation that includes the following: a new deck, patio, fence, hot tub, shower and fire pit in the backyard; Japanese garden and fountain in the side yard; front walkway and steps in the front yard; and custom shed and paving in the driveway. We give Anjali our absolute highest recommendation. She is a true gem at creating unique, individualized outdoor spaces. She is extremely knowledgeable, creative, communicative, and highly attentive to every detail. She puts her whole heart and soul into the project. Anjali conceived novel, innovative designs that did not resemble anything we had seen before, e.g. she tastefully incorporated the hot tub and shower into its surroundings and developed a fire pit concept that was original and perfectly suited to the space. She struck a wonderful balance between seeking our feedback and suggesting ideas to bring our input to the next level. Anjali adeptly managed every step of the process, from dealing with the town on zoning and permitting to bidding, selecting, and working with contractors throughout the process to ensure that every detail of her design is implemented. She anticipated roadblocks and suggested creative alternatives. She carefully managed our budget - she understood our preferences and knew when to suggest premium products and when to take advantage of opportunities to save. We trust Anjali completely and know she is always one step ahead of us. The only piece of feedback we could offer is that there was a learning curve in communicating all the details of the project and admittedly, we knew very little going in. We have found that sometimes it is easier to write down all of our questions via email, to which she replies point by point, and sometimes it is easier to pick up the phone or talk in person. Regardless, she is always available and goes above and beyond.

We have a modernist house in Massachusetts and wanted a landscape design that would work with the style of the house and be easy to maintain. Anjali produced a beautiful plan, consulting closely with us at every stage and introducing us to some really wonderful new ideas. She was very open to working in stages, and we now have a comprehensive master plan of which we have implemented the first phase: a kitchen garden, an area of tiered planters near the front of the house, and the main entry area Each of these has a clean, simple and striking aesthetic, incorporating textured stonework (granite, slate, stone) into the environment, and showcasing plantings of a wide range of colors and shapes. Anjali was fantastic to work with, as was her team of subcontractors. The project came in on budget, and Anjali was great at finding less expensive solutions to the original proposal to make sure this was the case. We recommend her very highly.

We wanted a new look for our three season sun room and back yard. Anjali Joshi did an AMAZING job of recreating the entire space. She was able to take the concept of "bringing the outside in" to an entirely different level. We now enjoy our new room, deck, hot tub, and backyard every day. My wife and I built a house in the Fisher Hill area of Brookline and hired Anjali Joshi as our landscape architect. Anjali was able to work with the Architect and ensure that the landscape tied into the house seamlessly. Being from the suburbs, our first instinct was to have as large a yard as possible. However, her design took a small space and made it appear purposeful and beautiful, yet not busy. We were able to fit a pool, a hot tub and take a challenging backdrop and make it beautiful. We ended up installing 12 large trees, geopave, geogrid, pavers, walls and sod. Her choice of plants and shrubs was detailed and well laid out in our final construction documents which made it easy for the landscapers to read and execute. Anjali also helped us with the town for approval purposes and got us three competitive bids for the entire job. We did end up going with one of our own contractors as we'd worked with them before. However, she was involved in the construction through till the end and made sure that the work that was done was up to the standard the house warranted. Overall, she was one of the few people that worked on the house that was able to look at things from a 30,000 foot view and close up which is why the project was very successful.

When we purchased our home a few years back, it came with the standard New England yard plantings (e.g. Japanese Andromeda, Rhododendrons, Inkberry, Andorra Juniper Shrubs, etc.) that are all too common, although the garden beds had lots of potential. I began removing the old plants with the plans of designing my own gardens over time with more “unique” native plants. After meeting Anjali Joshi through mutual friends, I asked her to assist me with the planning and design of my gardens. After she presented her initial plan to me, it was obvious that I had hired the right person to help me. Her recommendations were based on her knowledge of the local climates and how well certain plants had performed, and her personal experiences with what had worked in the past. She was open to my input and was thorough in answering any questions that I had. Anjali oversaw the entire installation using a vendor that she had suggested, and was there throughout all phases, making sure that the details were tended to. She provided me with a care plan after the install, as well as maintenance guidelines for the fall/winter season and beyond. Through a collaboration of shared ideas, Anjali created exactly what I was hoping for. A beautiful, balanced garden that is not labor intensive, but something that I can be proud of and my family can enjoy. Mrs. Anjali had created a unique design for our front yard. She worked diligently with us every step of this project because we did not know what we want, what would be appropriate for our climate zone and our particular location. She was very patient, understanding and kind. We appreciated that! She explained thoroughly the ins and outs of this project. We were particularly impressed with her knowlege of plants and flowers, it was fun to work with her. Our front yard has been outgrowing and was not taken care of for years. Mrs. Anjali turned it into a beautiful shrubs and flower bed. She took out some old bushes and trees, kept our favorite Japanese maple (which one couldn't even see) and incorporated it into her design. And we loved the choice of shrubs and flowers she made!
