Susan Hill Interior Design

Unfortunately, our experience with Susan Hill Interior Design has been extremely disappointing. We hired the firm for a master bedroom and bathroom project that began in October 2025 and was promised by the firm and her contractor to be completed between mid-March and early April 2026. The project finished completion after a final defective sconce was installed end of July 2026. Throughout the project, we experienced poor project management, missed timelines, and inadequate oversight of contractors. We were told that we would receive weekly project updates, but those updates rarely occurred unless we proactively requested them. One of the most significant issues involved the painting work. The quality was poor enough that Susan brought in another painter to inspect it, and the work ultimately had to be completely redone. This alone delayed the project by approximately two weeks. When we raised concerns about the quality of the work, we felt that our concerns were minimized and that we were being viewed as overly particular rather than having legitimate issues addressed. The painter also color matched a BM paint selection to a SW product which was not approved or what was agreed upon in the original design process. It wouldn’t have mattered as much but the swap was done in a color drenched room with matching cabinetry that was already painted in the correct selected BM product. Again, poor project management and oversight of subs. We also asked Susan if she had used this painter before and she said no and then later stated she had used this painter once before on a different project. We hired her based on her contractor and vendor relationships, not using someone that she hadn’t/only once before used. Another major headache involved the bathroom lighting. The newly installed sconces kept shorting out, and the contractor insisted we pick different sconces. Unwilling to compromise on a design choice we wanted our only other option was to wait several weeks for four replacement sconces to arrive. Although the contractor was supposed to troubleshoot the issue directly with the manufacturer, they never did. After weeks of unnecessary delays, a second electrician inspected the setup and quickly discovered that only one sconce was defective—not all four. Replacing that single unit resolved the problem immediately. It was yet another frustrating example of a contractor's incompetence delaying our project by weeks. There were also issues with project management and management of subs. We repeatedly got asked by subs on where product/material were located and/or when they would arrive, questions about wallpaper installation, where outlets should be installed, plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, etc. We hired the firm again to manage the project so that we wouldn’t have to. While delays can happen in any renovation, the lack of coordination, communication, quality control, and adherence to the project schedule was poor.

We worked with Susan's team on a large renovation and new build in South Charlotte, and the experience was exceptional. I truly appreciate designers who understand what it takes to complete a build successfully. The detailed drawings and specifications her team provided were invaluable. While home designers and architects create excellent plans for room construction and general layouts, the added level of detail an interior designer brings is essential. I highly recommend Susan Hill to anyone looking to elevate their build to the next level.

Susan is an amazing designer who was able to transform our living room in a meaningful way after listening to our needs. She is incredibly knowledgeable and has great contacts in Charlotte to streamline the process. I would highly recommend her.

Susan is an amazing designer. She took the time to first help me define my style, then worked within my budget to re-decorate my living, dining and family rooms. She also created some plans for future projects that I could action as I had additional budget. Later, when I needed to sell my house, she helped me professionally stage it which resulted in a quick sale.

When we decided to add on 2000 sq feet to our home. We contacted Susan and asked if she would be up for the job. She didn't hesitate and said yes. Susan was the first interior designer I had worked with and I will tell you the best. I saw and learned so much working with her. One of Susan's best attributes is the simple fact that she listens to what her clients needs and wants are. She's also very good at coming up with other options when the budget is getting tight. This is a gift in the world of design! Susan is very detail oriented and truly looks at the whole picture of what it is your wanting. I've often have said that she's ruined me. Not sure I will ever find be able to find another designer that I'm not comparing to Susan.

Susan has an amazing gift for identifying the needs room and developing an atmosphere that was warm and inviting. Her ability to organize and provide a flow from room to room exceeded all expectations.
