TL;DR: I cannot recommend Lee and Athyrium Design more highly. She is a true professional and is simply brilliant in all aspects of landscape design. My husband and I both agree that her services were the best investment we could’ve made in our home—it completely changed the look and feel of our property and she has been instrumental in turning our little piece of this earth into a true oasis. We purchased our home a few years ago and I immediately wanted to tackle the exterior— preexisting plantings and hardscaping made little design and functional sense, areas were severely overgrown, and the overall “look” of the landscape was just not what we wanted. We jumped into clearing out the overgrowth and planting “deer-resistant” plants and flowers. Time and time again, we would come out to our plantings completely leveled or dying. We had had very limited knowledge on how to make our exterior into a space we loved, particularly with all of the issues we had to contend with (deer, septic, drainage, light). After a great deal of wasted money and effort, we knew we needed help. I initially reached out to several different companies and most were unwilling work with us as our budget was “too low” and/or we wanted to do the actual sourcing and planting ourselves as we both wanted to cut down on cost and we enjoy the process. There was one individual who was willing to work with us, but unfortunately, we were very unhappy with the design. It was evident that this individual paid little to no attention to any of our requirements or design style. I started looking for a designer on Houzz and instantly fell in love with all of the projects she had shared. I knew almost immediately during our initial consultation that Lee was the one to help bring our vision to life. Lee does such a wonderful job at putting you at ease and truly listening to what you want to accomplish in the space. She is so knowledgeable in her craft, has impeccable taste, is very respectful of cost, and is just a pleasure to work with! She gave us everything we wanted and then some in our final landscape design, all while staying very true to our design style: deer-resistant landscaping, hardscaping, lighting, edibles, fenced-in gardens, water mitigation etc. We have been working on implementing her design for the last few years (two babies slowed us down a bit), and we are just blown away by how things are coming together and what a difference it has made for our property. Lee is always available for site visits and to address any questions or emergent issues as we work through the install. There is not a day that goes by that someone doesn’t stop us to complement our property and the vast improvements we have made. I know this review cannot fully encompass just how amazing Lee is, but I hope it gives you a good insight into how fortunate you would be to work with her for any of your exterior design needs. We look forward to working with her for many years to come.

Lee at Athyrium Design did a fantastic job. We have a single family suburban home and she was able to provide thoughtful, knowledgeable advice for our landscape overhaul. He knowledge of native plants and stormwater management has been extremely important as we look to build a sustainable and ecologically healthy modern yard.

I have had Lee advise me on various gardening and design projects. I appreciate her honest direct approach during consultations. She is knowledgeable about plants and creates thoughtful, beautiful designs.

We worked with Lee for our larger than average city backyard. We wanted a project that we could do ourselves. But we were completely lost on design, drainage challenges, and of course the proper plants. Lee designed a beautiful yard and a “paint by numbers” plan. Because of her plan, It was incredibly easy to execute. Her pricing was reasonable. Especially since, I would have planted more than her rate in plants that didn’t work or I didn’t like over the next few years. Would absolutely use her again!

We have worked with Lee over the last month and have been so pleasantly surprised and impressed by her professionalism, her aptitude in the field, her knowledge of the industry and various plants offhand and when researched, as well as her open mind and willingness to consider all options and requests. Her work product has been excellent and incredibly detailed and useful, and she has always been timely and responsive in communications. We hope to work more with her going forward, and willingly will recommend her to others.

Lee created a wonderful design for us several years ago. It has been wonderful watching her vision take shape as we have completed our landscaping over the past several seasons.
