Block Brothers Custom Cabinets

Block Brothers were great! Their craftsmanship is high end. They did kitchen cabinets, bath vanities, window and door trim, and even a beautiful staircase! I can't say enough about them. Great to work with, and outstanding product.

We hired Block Brothers to design, build and install custom cabinetry and wainscoting in our mudroom as well as install new white oak stair treads on our staircase. We hit it off with Ben right away and found him to be a pleasure to work with. We had several ideas of our own and Ben did an excellent job listening to our ideas as well as offering his own expert opinions. From start to finish Ben and his crew provided excellent communication- a hugely important trait for the back and forth design process. He guided us as well as listened and we really appreciated getting progess photos of our actual pieces being built and assembled in the Block Brothers' shop. Ben is a craftsman and its obvious he takes great pride in being a very skilled one, but his approachable ease and patience made him and his crew easy to work with through the entire process. Lastly, we couldn't be happier with the result. Our mudroom is a perfect marriage of beauty and function and we wouldn't change a thing! We do and will continue to highly recommend Block Brothers.

We couldn't be happier with the cabinets Block Brothers made for us. Throughout the entire process Ben was extremely responsive, full of information/resources, and very patient with us as our timeline kept getting pushed. We are renovating a home built in 1850 and we worked with Ben to produce a set that would honor the history of the house, and they're perfect. He also took great care to install them in a house with not-so-even flooring which is a feat in and of itself. We are looking forward to working with Ben again on any future projects and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for both impeccable craftsmanship and great customer service.

From the minute we first met Ben, we knew we wanted to work with him. His design sense, his understanding of our goal, his attention to detail, the absolute integrity in his work... along with his outstanding team did not disappoint! Block Brothers Custom Cabinets has our highest recommendation without any reservations. Ben has been very easy to communicate with, and very attentive to our vision of the kitchen project. During the initial design phase of the project, he drafted his first ideas of the kitchen layout and met with us to explain the design and ask what modifications we wanted in the draft plan. The design plan met our thoughts on what we wanted and required only a few changes. Ben’s estimated start date turned out to be quite accurate. Our project involved demolition of the old kitchen, and Ben came to the house again to meet with our contractor to communicate what was required just prior to start of the demolition. When the space was down to the bare studs, Ben came again to meet with the contractor to make sure the space was prepared as required. These meetings show the commitment to a high level of communication between him, the client, and contractor to make sure the project proceeds smoothly as planned without any surprises. When the space was prepared, Ben and his crew worked professionally for five days to install the cabinets. The cabinets were built with the highest level of craftsmanship: the lines are precise and the fit of the inset cabinet doors is perfect. The exacting care the crew took in installing the beautifully-built cabinets was wonderful to watch. They fit the crown molding by hand planing the individual pieces to match the contours of the ceiling showing their exceptional level of care. They are very neat in how they work and are careful to cover the floor and surrounding areas to make sure they keep the rooms as clean as possible. The aspect of our project that really looks special and sets this project apart for us is the CVG Douglas fir bartop. Ben recommended this as the interface between the kitchen and living room, and we had not thought of it. It is such a warm and inviting bartop (crafted with precision that is the hallmark of their work). He added the same Douglas fir design feature to the wall cabinets opposite to the kitchen, which ties in those cabinets to the rest of the kitchen in a beautiful fashion. We are so thrilled with how the project turned out exceeding all of our expectation, and Ben has our highest recommendations.

Block Brothers provided my family with extraordinary care and ultimately provided us an exquisite program. Our exchange began when I e-mailed Ben, an old college friend, to see if he would be able to build a custom bed. I then sent many pictures of bed styles that appealed to me and my requests for storage and lighting needs. I went back and forth with Ben for several rounds of revisions to the design; he was patient and informative throughout the whole process. Ben kept me up to date on the status of my bed and sent and/or posted pictures repeatedly to give me a sneak peak of its progress. It was fun to see the bed throughout the process even though I was thousands of miles away from Block Brothers. Transporting the bed to me (from Maine to Los Angeles) was no small feat. Ben held my bed for me for several weeks to better accommodate my schedule and worked with me through the challenges of shipping a large piece of furniture thousands of miles. The bed arrived in perfect condition and I was easily able to assemble the bed using the step-by-step picture directions Ben provided, the drill bit he sent me in advance, and the lighting he had shipped to my home. The bed also arrived with some Block Brothers t-shirts as a gift from Ben. The team at Block Brothers is outstanding - they are professional, talented, thoughtful, and they made the collaborative process very easy. And best of all, the final product is simply beautiful.

I could not recommend Ben more highly. He designed and built a kitchen island for our condo in Portland, and not only are we thrilled with the island itself, but we found working with Ben to be extremely easy and extremely pleasant. Ben is an excellent communicator; he always returned my messages and answered my questions right away, and he was very clear and up-front about what to expect in terms of cost, timing, etc. (From the day I first contacted Ben, the project took about 3 months to complete.) And while I'm sure that our island was a small project for Ben compared to some of the projects he takes on, he never made me feel like I was any less important than someone having an entire kitchen put in. Ben did a great job of listening to what we wanted and offering suggestions and guidance when we weren't sure. The installation process, too, was impressive; Ben went so far as to warn me before using tools that he had found particularly offensive to dogs (Maggie thanks you, Ben) and left our kitchen spotless. As for the island itself, it is beautiful. It is extremely well-crafted, the design is lovely and functional, and looks right at home in our kitchen. Finally, I'll add that we appreciate that Ben makes an effort to use responsibly-sourced wood and environmentally-friendly products. My husband and I are delighted!

Ben designed and installed a custom mudroom which has helped keep the rest of our home clutter-free. The quality and style of the work by Ben and his crew absolutely exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail was phenomenal. The team was professional, polite, and a pleasure to have in our home during the renovation. I highly recommend Block Bros. without hesitation.

We met Ben through a painter. We had a very specific problem. Four custom made painted kitchen cabinets were seriously damaged by a water break in the house and we needed to find someone who could make new doors that matched the rest of the cabinets. Ben Block was a delight from beginning to end. He came to the house so he could give us an accurate estimate and showed us how to remove the doors and install the new ones. We set a schedule for the work and then delivered the defective doors to his shop (so he could match them perfectly) when we were ready to part with them. Visiting the shop in Searsport was a treat, as we got to see the workshop and other interesting works in progress. It is clear that Ben is talented, meticulous and justifiably proud of the exceptional work he does. The doors were finished exactly on time, exactly on budget and are a perfect match. If we were building our house over again, we would absolutely seek out Block Brothers.

I can't say enough about the custom furniture Block Brothers Custom Cabinets made for us. We needed a highly customized design for use in a retail store in downtown Boston and Ben worked with us from day one combining function and artistry. The materials he recommended coupled with highest level of detail made the four pieces he and his team made for us stunning works of art. Would I work with BBCC again? Absolutely- and we're looking forward to it!

Best Dining Table Ever!! We worked with Block Brothers Custom Cabinets to design and build a custom walnut dining table for our new (currently under construction) town home in Chicago. The home is quite modern and we wanted a piece that would fit that design style without sacrificing the classic feel that Ben and his team beautifully achieve in their work. They beyond exceeded our expectations! After diligently walking us through a variety of questions that covered sizing, pricing, finishing, etc. and taking into account several photos we found interesting, Ben created very detailed design plans with variations that fell in our budget range. We loved the initial design and didn't want to change a thing, however he was completely open for input and was always mindful to check in with questions/confirmations as he refined the details of the design and lumber was being ordered. This refinement also included special attention to assembly as the finished product would need to be easily transported to the Windy City. Once the team started work he enthusiastically provided updates and pictures and we watched the process unfold, even from afar. No picture could have prepared us for the stunning reveal we had while in Maine on summer vacation. We couldn't be happier and look forward to moving in and enjoying the beauty of this timeless piece for years to come! We will certainly work with Block Brothers again and you should too!

My wife and I are extremely satisfied with the custom cabinetry work provided by Block Brothers for the bathroom and mudroom of our recent and ongoing home remodel. The quality and experience of the build was unmatched. We constantly receive comments from visitors, friends and family of how nice the cabinets look. Ben worked with us from the start with the conceptual planning of what and where the cabinets would be. As the project developed he was very accommodating to make adjustments and modifications to the design, all the while being transparent with how the changes could affect the cost and timeline. He also was very helpful in guiding us with color and wood choices so that each component of the cabinet (wood type, paint and hardware) would complement and coordinate with the colors of the room (trim, flooring and wall color) resulting in an amazing finished room.
