He created the exact flagstone patio that I was hoping for, and as a bonus he was amazing with my two little boys who were so interested in him and all the work he was doing in our backyard. Mike and the team completely transformed our backyard! Before, there was barely any room for the kids to run and play, and now we have so much beautiful green space for them, plus a lovely patio/deck area for us to relax and hang out. Honest, reliable, trustworthy, competent, collaborative, creative, professional, and dedicated are words I would use to characterize Mike Koch, owner of Blue Bear Landscape Construction. Mike is a pleasure to work with. He has been our ‘go to’ landscape contractor for several years. We are currently completing our third major project with Mike. When planning a project, Mike listens to our objectives and proposes innovative, cost-effective solutions. He works on only one job at a time, so is completely focused on and dedicated to the project he is working on. When challenges or questions arise, which they inevitably do on any project, Mike is creative and thoughtful when proposing various options or treatments to arrive at the best outcome. Mike keeps us informed about what is happening each day, so we never have to wonder where he is or what is supposed to happen on any given day. We never have to question or doubt the quality of his work. Mike works incredibly hard and produces results whose quality we never have to doubt or question. He keeps us updated on how the job is progressing against the budget.

I cannot speak highly enough about Mike and Blue Bear Landscaping, based on the experience with the project that he completed for us this summer (2025). There are so many good things about working with this company. Firstly, there is the dedication to excellence. The end result is perfection, and far exceeded what we envisaged. My wife and I marvelled at his craftsmanship as it became clear that each individual piece fitted together to perfection. As the project went on, he pointed out little things that would further improve the project, and ended up adding some great additions. Secondly, work ethic is of the highest standard. As it was during the summer holidays, we had an opportunity to see Mike work on his own, and whether this was skilled work with the excavator, or heavy duty hand excavation, he sure knows how to work! The same comment when his team joined him, projects would look like they would take multiple days were wrapped up quickly. Great care was taken to return our property as it had been, outside of the renovated area. Always punctual and the project completed on time. Thirdly, his technical skills and experience in contouring the project are excellent, he just seems to know what is the correct option! Work life balance is important in doing top quality work, and we could see from chatting with Mike that he carefully balanced these. We liked how well he communicated with us, as he explained the nuances of the project. I would recommend Blue Bear landscaping without hesitation for any landscaping job that needs to be undertaken. With this quality of work, it’s easy to see how he has won awards of excellence.

What an incredible experience. Mike and his team are exceptional in all that they do....the pride they have in delivering the best product was evident throughout the project. I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product and the level of communication we had during all phases of the project was exceptional. I consider myself an annoying perfectionist, but I was happy to find my equal in Mike. His attention to detail ensured our shared vision was never compromised and only improved through our discussions. I looked forward to returning home each evening to view the transformation that happened each day. Mike turned our aging back yard that was falling apart and had major drainage problems in to a work of art. I cannot say enough about Mike (Blue Bear Landscaping). He’s a knowledgeable, skilled craftsman with a great eye. Our tired looking front yard had a lot of issues. We asked Mike to design something that was terraced and would reflect the north shore area. Something that wouldn’t need a lot of maintenance and didn’t need to be mowed. Something fresh! That’s exactly what he did. What’s more he did it on budget and in the time frame he had projected. During the process Mike communicated with us daily and kept us well informed. Mike’s precision and attention to detail leaves us feeling confident we will have a beautiful, well built front yard that we can enjoy for many years to come. We now have him back to do our side yard.

I learned of Mike Koch through friends that had a very attractive patio side yard re-designed and built by Mike a few years ago. Although my house is older and more rustic than the work he had done for my friends, I contacted Mike to see if he would consider doing some repair, updating and modifications to my existing landscaping. He agreed on the basis that this would be a small winter fill-in project for him. However, as I began to see the skills Mike had, the project expanded to include two significant stone walls that he built from an on-site granite rockery on a steep side yard. I found Mike to be very skilled with a solid work ethic. He is conscientious, meticulous and respectful of the existing surroundings. He was quick to understand what I wanted and also presented creative ideas that were aesthetically pleasing. He kept me informed of the work as it progressed and when he would be there to work. I'm delighted with Mike's work and would not hesitate to recommend Mike and his work to anyone.

Mike and Blue Bear Landscape Construction are absolutely amazing! We are super happy with all the beautiful work Mike and his crew have done for us and how they fully transformed the yard. Mike replaced the long retaining wall with a built in bench, put down a new patio, a sitting area, built a pergola, did a big clear out and planted a lot of vegetation and really transformed our yard front to back. I am a professional engineer with over 50 years of experience in the design and construction field. We wanted to install a new stone retaining wall, underpin and reconstruct an existing stone retaining wall and replace our existing asphalt driveway with new concrete pavers. Blue Bear came highly recommended from various sources, so we gave them a try. Mike and Carly are incredible master craft persons in stone and paver work. They tackled all 3 projects by themselves and did an amazing job. They completed all work on time and on budget and our home has never looked better. We highly recommend them.

Mike and his assistant did an excellent job in remodeling our backyard. They turned our tiny outdoor space to a beautiful haven that now we can all hang out and enjoy hot summer days. Mike is professional, punctual and very reasonable when it comes to budgeting. We gave him a pretty tight budget and he delivered the best service within that budget.
