My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

About Us

Cillesa Interior Design & Space Planning is an award-winning, full-service interior design firm, now based in France. Founded by Cillesa Ullman, a CCIDC-certified interior designer with over 25 years of experience, the firm offers expertise in whole-house remodels, sustainable materials and practices, construction administration, and color consultation. Since relocating to France, Cillesa has brought her design sensibility to a range of European projects, including the renovation of five bathrooms, the design of custom cabinetry, and sourcing from French suppliers and craftspeople. She also remodeled her own home in the South of France, gaining firsthand experience with local building methods and materials. Notably, she has contributed to the restoration of a 16th-century historic home in the village of Le Bar-sur-Loup. Cillesa offers expert space planning—helping clients determine optimal architectural layouts—as well as furnishing services to create cohesive, livable interiors. She works comfortably in both English and French, and enjoys assisting local French clients as well as English-speaking homeowners, including the many British and American families with second homes in the region. Her kitchen and bath designs have been featured in publications such as Sunset, Better Homes & Gardens, This Old House, and Remodel magazines.

Cillesa has designed and consulted on multiple home renovation projects for us. She has an excellent eye for space. She is a great listener, easily understanding what we wanted while making timely suggestions. Her relationship with professionals and suppliers was an added bonus that gave us comfort we were in good hands.

Cillesa did our bath redesign and other modernization work for our house in Southern France. The work was tremendous. She was able to modernize the baths, add a new full bath, all the while with great respect for the soul of the house (built in 1750). She worked very well with local craftsmen, bringing in steel fabricators, painters, custom glass, and tile masons. Locally sourced materials were blended perfectly with the newer fixtures to achieve that modern but elegant Provençal look we wanted. We already have plans to have Cillesa do the same magic in the kitchen in 2026! I recommend her, not only for design work, but she has proven to be a capable general contractor. Her organization and communication skills are top-notch which I find lacking in many general contractors!

We can not say enough about Cillesa's design and planning help! We had worked with her on an almost whole house remodel about seven years ago. All went really well and what we truly appreciated was overall attention to detail and complete style elements that she naturally and ambitiously put into perfect balance. This carried over to our recent bath remodel (which we had postponed seven years ago) and tied in perfectly with our original remodel. It was like we just picked up where we left off! I have worked many years in real estate sales and property management and can not tell you the many, many times I have encountered terrible upgrades and updates. With our home remodel, I was very sensitive to this. For lack of a better term, the "hodge podgey" inconsistent, poor overall quality and final result was not acceptable. Not an issue with Cillesa! On top of it all, Cillesa is a pleasure to work with. We really enjoyed the great collaboration and respectful coordination. Many thanks as always to Cillesa!

I have worked with Cillesa on a number of projects at my home over the past 10 years. Each project has had it's unique requirements, from simple requests to select colors, fabrics, etc. for a light spruce up of a space to a full kitchen remodel that Cillesa designed and managed for me. My goal with each project has been to hold true to the mid-century modern aesthetic while updating my home room by room. Cillesa has always listened and brings this same appreciation to her work. Cillesa's attention to detail and her ability to problem solve in the moment are two capabilities that I've come to greatly appreciate as we've worked together over the years.

Cillesa is amazing! She's a wonderful listener. She heard what we wanted to accomplish with a remodel and is making it happen! She has an organized approach to the entire process. We started with our ideas which turned into her design ideas (she gave us 5 layout options for our kitchen and had a strong list of pros and cons for each). Once we settled on a design, we started picking out cabinets, appliances, stone, etc. Cillesa presented us with a few options at each stage of the process. We appreciated not being sent to the tile store to choose something-we never could have done it on our own. Instead, she went with us, showed us some options and also had us wander around and see what struck us! Cillesa has had helpful and practical advice about anything we have questions about. Definitely allowed the project to be what WE wanted since WE have to live in it, but we always knew she wouldn't let us go astray! And she's just an all around nice and good person! A pleasure to be around and work with! We couldn't be happier with our decision to work with Cillesa.

For almost a year I have been enjoying my fabulous, new kitchen. Working with a very compact space, Cillesa was able to design a kitchen that more than meets my expectations with respect to how it looks and functions. She is the consummate design professional: great ideas; an excellent problem solver; knowledgeable about and able to reach out to sources; and flexible about blending her expertise with a client's sometimes impractical ideas. I highly recommend Cillesa.

Cillesa was an invaluable partner during our whole home renovation. With this being our first renovation of any size, it was important that we had someone who not only would help us with the layout and design but also be a guide on the full process. On top of Cillesa’s core design skills, her focus and dedication made us feel confident that the renovations would be the right choices, and we’d be happy with them for years to come.

Cillesa designed and managed a complete kitchen remodel for us and the results were nothing short of fantastic. Her attention to detail and creativity solved many difficult problems with the space and created both a great looking and functional kitchen. She also recommended a great general contractor and other suppliers and managed the process with them smoothly through the normally encountered issues with any remodel. We are now buying a new house and look forward to working with her again to make it the perfect place.

Cillesa is amazing. She is incredibly organized and highly efficient. She took our enormous project (a complete house gutting) and broke it down into easy to make decisions. She didn't let us get off track or wander down design tangents which, honestly, did a lot to keep our project on time and budget. I love everything about my house- the colors, the materials, the clever design touches. The only "mistake" is that I refused to listen to Cillesa and insisted on only one sink in the master bathroom. I think about the dozens of places she saved me everytime I wait for my husband to finish brushing his teeth!

Cillesa is a true professional! She's highly experienced and very creative in both interior design and space planning, and brings fresh ideas to everything she does. She worked with me on multiple projects, and most recently my kitchen and family room remodel. She works very efficiently, is decisive, and also a good listener. I truly appreciated her ability to understand my style and ideas and then create a space that I couldn't be happier with. Her attention to detail is impressive, and took a lot of the stress out of day to day decisions. Finally, Cillesa is highly respected in the industry, and has great contacts for just about anything.
