I am a Licensed General Contractor/Remodeler who is also an NAHB Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist and Certified Graduate Remodeler. I am a subject matter expert and primary NAHB instructor for the Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist courses. I am Hawaii's #1 Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist. I have over 38 years of construction experience ranging from government projects, custom private residential homes to luxury condominiums. I perform detailed Home Assessments and been a consultant on several projects for the State of Hawaii. As a Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist, I bring a unique perspective because of my 17 years of experience as the primary caregiver for my father, after my mother passed. This experience has given me an understanding that only caregivers can relate to, and it allows me to better recognize the challenges that the families I work with are going through. This knowledge helps me to design a home that will function specifically for that family’s needs now and be adaptable if the situation changes. My responsibility to my homeowners, is to listen, make suggestions and design a home that will be accessible, functional and aesthetically pleasing so they can live independently for their lifetime. The majority of my homeowners/clients are seniors, the physically and/or cognitively challenged and caregivers; but many also decided to make the proactive decision to modify their home so they can continue to live an active independent lifestyle.
