C&D Design + Build LLC

We hired C&D to renovate our family home in, focusing primarily on converting and extending the ground floor of the house – including a new kitchen and family room. The team were professional & present at every stage of the project and collaborated nicely with our architect. It was important to us that the renovation preserved the character of the original structure, which at times led to one or two surprises and some additional complexity, but Dago & Co seemed to take it in their stride and handle without too many issues. C&D clearly care about the quality of their work, which was the reason why we chose them over some of the larger DC firms. We have no problem recommending C&D and have continued to work with them on subsequent smaller projects.

C&D Design + Build has a Class A Contractor License, which is the best you can get in VA. They have ZERO complaints filed against them. They will help you design your project; make suggestions, and be there every step of the way. A project manager is assigned to your job and stays at the jobsite during the entire process. We were kept updated on permits and job progress. We made some changes while the job was in process, and they gave us estimated cost/project time and change orders in a timely manner so we could decide if we wanted to go ahead with the changes or stay with the original plans. The project site was cleaned up every day; trash, papers, wood, etc was not left out in the open. Our selections were brought to the jobsite and inspected to make sure the size/color/etc was correct. This company was on top of things at all times! I would definitely recommend them to anyone wishing to do a large or small project! In fact, several people who rode by our project stopped and set up appointments with C&D. They are truly a first-class, highly professional, friendly, easy-to-work-with company!

I am so happy with my experience with C&D. I had a complicated project, a gut remodel and addition to an old Tudor home. There were major structural issues discovered after demolition, and the C&D team calmly and professionally found solutions. What really stands out to me is the creativity of the group. While I worked with an architect, C&D also added their own touches to my project, such as a wood ceiling and loft area that would have otherwise just been closed off. Whenever I asked for an additional detail, they found a way to make it happen. In addition, they're all just very nice people who care that you love your home. To describe just how nice, let me tell you a story. My toddler dropped a beloved toy of hers in the gutter down the street, and when I told the crew about it, they came right away to take off the manhole cover and go in and get it for her. In her words: "They're the best!"

Lucas and the team helped remodel our guest and master baths. The process was seamless from start to finish and we could not be happier with the result! The work was efficient, fast, and precise. Our bathrooms both turned out beautiful. Could not recommend C&D more.

I first worked with C&D Design + Build in 2013 when they were the contractors for my kitchen renovation. I was very impressed with the work that they did and have since had them come back many times to do other jobs around my house. My latest project with them was a total renovation of my large laundry room/utility room. The project manager was so knowledgeable about design, layout, products to use and oversaw the entire job from start to finish. He spent a lot of time with me designing the best layout for the space and went with me to select countertops and tile. He always responded immediately when I called or texted with questions. The team who came to my house to do the work was outstanding! They were respectful, quiet and took great care with everything they did and left the work area clean before leaving each day. I was told what time they would arrive and they always came on time!!! I was given a timeline as to when each phase of the job would be done and they stuck to it and completed it within that time. I now have a beautiful room and I have C & D Design + Build to thank for that!

The porch and deck that C&D designed and built for us turned out even better than we'd imagined! Their creative architectural details and clever use of materials (super strong screening instead of railing, for instance) produced a uniquely beautiful indoor/outdoor result. Our favorite element is a moving screened wall using a barn door mechanism only visible from the inside. That was the ingenious invention of the company's owner, Dago Farinas. On the business end, the C&D team is not only highly skilled but also very responsive. For instance, when a sudden extreme thunderstorm tore off the protective roof tarp, they reacted very quickly to avoid interior damage. Finally, one more reason to choose C&D: they stand behind their work. Our porch was completed late fall of 2022 and 8 months later they reached out to check on how it did over the winter. There were a few small wear and tear items they identified and came back to touch up, completely free of charge. In all, this is a great father and son company who will make your dreams come true!

C&D Design + Build LLC was very nice to work with. We were on a tight time crunch to renovate our kid's bathroom and they were able to meet the deadline and date they promised us (which is not always the case with some contractors). They were very professional and kept our house and the area where they were working as clean as possible. We love how it turned out!

We hired the C&D Company to implement our design (in conjunction with our architect) for a renovated kitchen and dining room. We also added an extra garage bay as part of the design. We found the C&D team to be honest, hardworking, reliable, and resourceful. They showed up every day, many times even on weekends to adhere to the schedule. They always addressed our concerns immediately and respectfully. We would not hesitate to recommend this company.

C&D did an excellent job replacing the old tub and tile work with a walk in shower in a 5' x 7' master bath. We also had a new toilet installed, but opted to keep the floor tile, vanity and sink since those items were upgrade earlier and were still in great shape. Some other contractors we called were not interested in the job because it wasn't a total master bath replacement. Considering price, timing and quality of work, C&D scored high marks. There were a few minor changes as the work progressed, but these were worked into the schedule at no additional cost. The works arrived on time, were courteous, worked efficiently and cleaned everything up before they left for the day, so there was very little inconvenience while the project was ongoing. We contacted C&D for this job since they had completed a kitchen and dining room renovation about 5 years ago and we were very pleased with how that job turned out as well.

I've hired the C&D Design + Build team for two different projects and I must say, these guys are the GOLD STANDARD when it comes to contractors. Super courteous, committed to my vision, and incredibly competent in a variety of domains. They have established partnerships with boutique suppliers in the area that have sourced one-of-a-kind finds that transformed our entire house. These guys are the contractors you wish you had in your family that just tells it to you straight and ensures you're happy with the result from start to finish. Don't think twice!

We have hired C&D Company on three separate occasions for projects in our home. Our home was built in the 70s and included such wonders as powder blue formica counter-tops and particleboard cabinets. That in combination with being own by several families took its tole. By the time we bought the house, it was in dire need of work. However, work, kids and general insanity kept us busy. After several years (yes I said years), we finally decided to start remodeling with the kitchen. In 2013 we decided to start with the kitchen, the mudroom and the family room. We went to Nicely Done Kitchens and worked with them to come up with a floor plan. It was the representative at Nicely Done that introduced us to Dago at The C&D Company. Nicely Done Kitchens handled planning what my husband and I wanted, ordering the materials and scheduling while Dago's crew at C&D made it all happen. The old kitchen and office were taken down to studs. A wall between the kitchen and family room was removed, support headers were built in and doorways moved. The old office was converted into a mudroom/laundry (moving the old laundry from our basement up onto the first floor). The areas were being completely renovated. Floor tile, cabinets, island, new doors. The old oven exhaust literally blew into the cabinet above the stove. So a new exhaust system had to be installed so the stoves exhaust would actually lead outside. We had also decided to convert from electric to gas. When Washington Gas couldn't get to us for several more months (we had started the process before the project began), C&D worked with us to keep the project on schedule and make sure we would be able to use our kitchen while we waited. The old electric appliances were put into place and working until the gas lines could be installed. Once the lines were in, C&D came back, removed the electric appliances and installed in the gas appliances. Any issues we had, Dago dealt with personally. He walked us through, answered questions, caught any errors and made sure things were done right. His crew was hard working, polite, friendly and always smiling, even when I would change my mind and ask them to make a change. On a side note, during the gutting of the kitchen, new copper had to be run in the basement. During this stage some storage was knocked over and fell onto my daughter's doll house (built for her years before). I was upset and my daughter broken hearted. I did not know what to do. I told Dago about the damage, he came to our home on his own time and rebuilt the broken area of the doll house. Right down to matching up the old paint and repainting it. Companies like this are hard to find folks. They care about their customers. When it came time to start the second project in 2015 - there was no question as to who we would call. We called Dago at C&D and asked him to come take a look. The second project, also on the first floor of our home, was for the entryway, powder room and living room. This time my husband and I picked tile and made plans, working directly with Dago and once again his crew came in and made it all work. The powder room was gutted and completely remodeled; Entryway floor removed and tile laid; Wide doorways that had made the first floor living room impossible to find privacy were converted to beautiful solid wood 6-panel pocket doors. The living room itself got new lighting and crown molding was added with tube LEDs to put some additional soft lighting in the room. This year, 2017, we called Dago at C&D again. It was finally time to tackle the 2nd floor bathrooms. We needed both the Master and Hallway baths to be renovated. These rooms had been the ones most abused by ours and past families. The hallway bath was going to be a straight-forward renovation. Gut the room and reinstall new tile, sink, toilette and tub. I sketched out what I was wanting and worked with Dago to make sure the crew had the same vision as me. But the master bath would be the crazy area. It was so small, the only way to crowbar space into it was to take a few inches from the adjoining walk-in closet. But doing so would take much needed closet space. My husband and I had pulled our hair out over how to make it work and finally came up with an idea. The next step was to ask Dago if our ideas were workable. He gave us several options and helped us work out a way to add space to the master bath without losing closet space. He suggested adding a nook to the other end of the room, consisting of a little window-space with a closet on either side of it. The master bath doorway was another issue, it opened into the bath hitting the edge of the tub and taking up what little room there was. Since C&D had installed pocket doors for us before, which worked out very well, we wanted to do the same here. The old tub was going away and we did not want a new one. We wanted a large shower with a bench. The C&D crew removed old pipes, replaced with new copper and drain. When I had an issue with the shower floor pattern, C&D removed the floor and did it again, without argument. I had a problem, talked to Dago and walked through it. There was no argument, no issues. He listened, he looked at the floor and he worked with his crew to fix it. Any problems we have ever had, Dago's crew at C&D have made it right. To make a long story short (yes I know, too late)... you would be crazy not to give C&D Company a call. They are hard working, friendly, professional and will work with you.

Dago was very easy to work with. The guys at our house daily were friendly and very helpful. We put in new floors and kitchen, overall everything came out great!! We would definitely use them again.

My Wife and I chose to hire C&D Company when we purchased our new home in DC in February 2015. The house was built in 1937 and was never renovated up until 2015 so we had to go through a full renovation of the entire house including the basement and the backyard to bring it up to today's standard of living. We consulted friends and family and C&D came with the highest amount of recommendations and when we contacted them, we found Dago to be very responsive and thorough during the interview, budget and contract process. This also continued during the actual construction, they managed to complete the renovation on time and with high quality of work. The team is very professional and also considerate of the neighborhood and so naturally we received complements from our neighbors on the same. Now, its almost two years since completion of the initial project and Dago is still helping us with any issues that come up at the house periodically. We will certainly recommend him to our friends and family and will consider him for our future projects!
