Chris Cobb Architecture

Chris Cobb's ability to marry function and design and create the illusion of space with light, angles, colors and materials is nothing short of miraculous! His attention to detail - be it mitered siding edges and custom casement windows to name a few - should set the standard on remodels! Can not say enough great things about Chris. He is as professional as they come but without the ego one might expect from someone so talented.

I'd admired Chris's clean and striking designs before working with him. He brought that aesthetic to my 1920's bungalow remodel while respecting the bones and history of the house, not to mention collaborating with my own personal vision for my home. His ideas for space organization resulted in spaces and rooms that are both beautiful and practical, especially in the kitchen (formerly small and in dire need of an update, and currently the generous heart of the home) and bathroom (by being thoughtful about every square inch in the planning, the modest sized bathroom feels contemporary and spa-like while retaining the original clawfoot tub). During the process of planning and building, Chris was accessible for questions or concerns, worked in close communication with the builders to make sure the plans came to life as envisioned, and was geniunely invested in the outcome of the project. So glad he was at the design helm on this remodel, and I absolutely love my "new" home. I recommend him highly and would happily work with him again.

My husband and I began working with Chris in December of 2015. Through a variety of projects iterations, he has stood by us as we decided what we wanted. We are doing a partial home remodel including an updated kitchen/ living area. He has helped design a new combined space which we hope to take better advantage of the square footage of our home and modernize it. We are just beginning the construction phase so we will add to the review when we're done.

Chris Cobb is one of the most talented architects in Austin. He's the most detail oriented, creative, and visionary architect I've ever worked with, bar none. His attention to detail will save you dozens of headaches and hiccups with contractors! He's an absolute pleasure to work with - I looked forward to each of our meetings. Furthermore, he was able to merge my husband's ideas with mine without any arguments! Quite a feat to gracefully manage two hotheaded Italians. He's got a great reputation in town and its definitely warranted. Go with Chris and love your new home!

Chris Cobb was interested in making our vision a reality. Although senior citizens, we didn’t want a home that screamed “old folks live here”. Chris designed the interior of our house to be airy with a lot of natural light and fresh ideas. He didn’t forget the aesthetic design of the exterior either. The exterior has modern clean lines that are beautiful. Chris Cobb is a very talented and innovative architect. He is a good listener, and managed to consistently incorporate our desires into his distinctive design. We highly recommend Chris Cobb.

Chris Cobb is the real deal. My parents moved to Austin and I wanted to build them an efficient, safe environment that would meet their needs yet be aesthetically modern and still please their traditional tastes.. As an artist, I had many creative ideas. I chose Chis Cobb for this daunting project. He was attentive and listened to my creative ideas and then came up with a plan to satisfy my vision, yet stayed within my budget. Chris is a very nice guy. Many architects have a strange arrogant attitude. This is not the case with Chris. It proves there are still nice professionals out there that also deliver quality work.

The project: 3500+ sq/ft new construction with a concentration on efficiency, smart spaces and mix of materials. On our project Chris Cobb was the mechanism that turned ideas and dreams into a functionally-intelligent home. Most couples do not share identical design or architectural tastes, thankfully Chris worked with us toward creative and responsible solutions and married these differences into a home we both admire, love and appreciate. We enjoyed working with Chris and his ability to 'save us from ourselves' at the right times yet also deliver the well-placed "wow" factors in our project. We would also recommend Chris Cobb for his knowledge of materials, Green Building know-how and experience in the field.

We have had the pleasure of building and working with Chris Cobb Architecture on one very challenging residential remodel (Greystone Residence). Chris’ millwork design on this project truly tested our skills as trim carpenters and cabinetmakers, every detail and material transition was precisely thought out which I know translates in the overall aesthetic of the project. Simply put, Chris Cobb helped us realize a dream. My husband and I were living in a tiny, dysfunctional 1950's home with a baby and two large dogs. We both work from home, so we needed a lot more space. We went from around 800 sq. feet to around 2300 sq. feet. One of the challenges was keeping the integrity of the original look of the mid-century cottage while merging a contemporary addition off the back. Chris did a brilliant job at this. I am very proud that the house still fits into the neighborhood's single family 50's vibe. We also asked for the house to connect with the outside and allow lot's of light to shine in. Chris' solution to our request was designing the house to frame a beautiful interior courtyard, with three sets of french doors to access it. I literally teared up when I saw the design, because it was exactly what we wanted, even though we had not thought of it, yet. That is what a great architect does. And that is exactly what Chris is - an incredible architect. In regards to functionality, Chris designed spaces to fit our favorite pieces of furniture or to showcase our artwork. Storage was very important to us and listened to our needs and accommodated. During construction, Chris was there all along, supporting the process and making sure that everything was being built to spec. This was an added service that we appreciated immensely and I would highly recommend. Also, Chris was very budget conscious, but was willing to point out when he really thought we needed to go for something. For example, we ended up getting a new roof for the front of the house, even though it wasn't budgeted for. But it was a wise decision and I appreciated Chris' input and reasoning behind it. On a personal note, Chris is an amazing person. He is professional, but also sincerely enthusiastic about his projects. He listened carefully to what we were needing and executed a beautiful and functional design. I don't think anyone could argue that construction is not stressful. Which is why it is so important to work with people you trust and like. I can honestly say that I can call Chris a friend, after working with him for over a year. I wonder how many other people can say that about their architect. I would recommend Chris Cobb without hesitation to anyone that was needing an architect. I honestly have only wonderful things to say about him and his work. We love our house. It's a dream come true!

Chris Cobb designed my dream house. He listened to my wishes, then created a product far beyond what I could have imagined. I still see people stop in front of my house taking pictures of it. He worked within my budget to design a project that was build-able. Chris helped make decisions to maximize monies and steered me clear of misspent dollars. The end product accomplished all I wanted, while bringing an additional artistic design element. He introduced novel materials to meet my requirements, which led to a very unique home. I worked closely with Chris throughout the project. He was responsive to my concerns as the project developed. He respected my ideas and input. He is an effective communicator who will share his opinion without pushing his own agenda into a project. I also appreciate his professionalism. He was a vital team member to complete this project, working respectfully with the various builders, engineers, arborists, landscape designers, etc. Chris Cobb made the process a joy, and I look forward to doing another project with him.

I met Chris Cobb for a builder interview. The purpose of the interview was to help his client find a builder for a project he had designed. He was thorough and complete in the process of vetting builders and we were fortunate to be selected. His plans also reflect that same attention to detail and thoroughness. We are now nearing the completion of a 1400 sq ft addition to a 850 sq ft home. The addition respects the original architectural and provides a unique design as well. Two elements that I particularly like are 1) the courtyard created by the new addition and 2) the exterior siding details using, metal flashing corners, board/batten Hardie and stucco. It is clean, modern yet timeless. Another benefit that Chris brings to his projects is his quiet, calm demeanor and ability to represent his clients and respect the efforts of the builder at the same time.
