I am the fifth generation in my family to own a farmhouse built in 1840, so I spent a lot of time searching for the right contractor to make extensive renovations. It was crucial to have a contractor we could trust because we lived 200 miles from the renovation site. After another contractor wouldn’t return my calls, I contacted David McCay and he called me back the same day. Following several conversations to determine exactly what we were hoping to accomplish and multiple visits to inspect various parts of the house, we determined that most of the house could be brought up to modern standards, but that a section in the rear had too many structural problems and should be torn down and replaced. David put us in contact with an architectural designer to develop a floorplan for the new construction and overall exterior design that would make the new construction look like it was original to the 180-year-old house. Once construction began, David was in frequent contact keeping me updated on progress and scheduling, and he would always return texts and phone calls very promptly. He took lots of pictures to show us what was going on, which was very valuable to us since we could not visit the job site frequently. Two of David’s strengths are scheduling and having excellent subcontractors, which resulted in steady progress and a high-quality end product, and he was on top of things at every step along the way. The people who worked directly for David (not subcontractors) were also extremely good. Throughout the process, I put a lot of faith in David, and he never let me down. He contributed significantly to the many structural, layout, and small cosmetic details resulting in a beautiful, solid, and comfortable home. Although part of the house is new construction and part is quite old, the entire structure blends so well that it looks like it was all built at the same time. I told him at the beginning that I wanted the finished house to be able to stand for another 200 years, and I believe he delivered that. I recommend David McCay Builders without reservation.

David did a wonderful job on our house remodel. It was an extensive job and took over 3 !/2 months and David was with us every step of the way. He would be here almost everyday watching and supervising his team and his sub contractors to make sure everything was perfect and according to our wishes. The workmanship was superlative and if every I have more work I would definitely call on David to do it. I'm proud to call him a friend.

We are delighted with the quality of our new home. This is the 3rd home we have had built, not all by David McCay unfortunately . This is by far the best quality home we have ever had. If you want a GREAT quality home you can't go wrong with David McCay builders.

We chose David McCay to build our home after seeing a few others he had built. He promised us he would be on the job every day, and would be in constant communication with us about the project. He proved to be that and more. This was to be the last house we would build, and wanted it to be done our way. . Admittedly we were very particular about what we wanted, and had more than a few change orders along the way. David was always attentive and patient with us. He had great sub-contractors who seemed to be very loyal to him. The quality of our house was, and still is the best I have ever seen, even after twelve years. We still call on David after all this time for issues regarding our home, and he is still there for us. My wife and I recommend David McCay without reservation to anyone who wants their home built to the highest standards.

David McCay Builders was an outstanding company to work with. I purchased a piece of property a couple of years ago and had David to come out to place my driveway and decide where the house needed to be located and how it needed to sit on the property. His crew expertly cut the road in and did a fine job. I knew after the placement of the drive that I would be using David McCay Builders to build my home. Two years later I contacted David to build the house and he did a wonderful job. My home is everything I had hoped it would be and more. The wood work is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and there’s nary a squeak in the house. Everything is tight as a drum and everyone who comes here comments on the quality of the house because it’s evident from the time you pull in the driveway. David took the time to show me all the details as the house was being built and would explain why they were doing things in a certain way. His pride shows in his work. David was also here daily, “hands on” and wearing a tool belt, as well as, overseeing the progress with the necessary sub-contractors. Our family farmhouse was in terrible disrepair due to horrible renter that left everything in shambles. Honestly, I thought it was beyond help. After careful consideration we decided to contact David to see if he could help us recover this home because it means so much to our family. David immediately saw that there was hope and had many ideas to help update the house, as well as, bringing it up to a warm, inviting home again. He brought his team in and they worked tirelessly to help us recover what we had lost. Now I'm happy to report that our farm house is now a beautiful, welcoming home once again. David McCay builders completed an extensive renovation on our lake house on Lake Burton. Both David and his crew were extremely professional and courteous during the entire process. It was reassuring that David was on the job daily to ensure that the job was managed correctly and that it was progressing according to the timeline we had originally discussed. I found him to be very helpful in having the foresight to correct things that could be a problem in the future. The quality of his work is unmatched and he takes great pride in his craft. It shows in everything he does. He helped me achieve my dream of a beautiful, barn red lake house. I am so proud of all that was accomplished and am very happy with the end results.

David McCay built our house on Lake Chatuge. He was totally involved from start to finish, from siting the house on the lot to handing us the key when finished. Not only was he engaged in every process, he directed many aspects of the building process. He was there everyday and was involved in decisions that affected design even though we had plans. David was never shy about giving an opinion that would improve the house. It was always very apparent that our house was his house in that it was a reflection of his work. We have since been able to tour other houses on the lake in similar price ranges and it is our opinion that none compare to this house.
