We bought a unique vacant lot in Grand Haven close to Lake Michigan. After building 2 previous homes, where we struggled with numerous issues, we were very cautious about selecting the builder for this project for what we desired to be our "forever home". From our first phone conversation with DK Homes, Jay and Ben DeKleine, which lead to our proposal meeting, where every budgeted item was addressed in detail, we had full confidence in proceeding with DK Homes for our project. There was precise coordination with the subcontractors, which were mainly part of the DeKleine family, and everyone was on the same page. DK Homes was able to address the main hurdle of the project which involved a one lane road and limited parking for the subcontractors to allow clear access for other homeowners. We felt so confident in their building process that we went to Florida for four months during the winter. After we came back, we were extremely pleased with the final product, which is now our "forever home".

The BEST experience I have ever had. We were expecting a lot of issues, based on friends who had worked with other builders, but this could not have gone any smoother. Literally, hassle free! Sure there are decisions to be made but from Ben D with his design expertise and Jay D as head of ops, they totally have their act together. Each sub contractor could not have been more cordial and thorough, no finger pointing and they finished AHEAD of schedule!!!! After meeting with a few builders, we chose DK Homes to design and build our Gun Lake home. Ben did a great job designing, listening intently to all of our "wants". Jay price quoted a high quality home with reasonable allowances. He kept us informed about any issues and gave options for resolution. Mary, our designed, was very helpful with all of our selections. Our family recently finished a project with DK Homes and have been enjoying the quality and craftsmanship of their work for about 8 months now. This was our second custom build in 4 years, so although by no means experts, we felt prepared for the project. Going into this, based on our first project and what seems to be the “normal pitfalls” of building, we had a natural expectation that we were going to have to stay on top of the budget, schedule, and pay close attention to the details around finish details. During the quoting process, we evaluated 5 different builders, and from the beginning, we quickly identified and caught on that DK had a great formula for success. Jay’s transparency around his quote, how he managed the budget, and ability to foster a great dialogue around our home’s features, flow, construction, costs, challenges, etc. was something that reset our expectations of working with a builder. Throughout the project, we had numerous examples of how DK and their team of contractors worked diligently to ensure that the customer was at the heart of the project, specifically; -Framing: In addition to being exceptional framers, ensuring everything was true and square, the team identified ways to improve our blueprint by finding creative ways to minimize dead space in the home, and maximize functionality. For our home they identified a great place for a seating bench to put on shoes, an additional linen closet in the masterbath, etc. -Exterior: The team went the extra mile and researched different decorative materials for our home’s exterior to ensure maximum performance while working within the budget, as well as went to our prior house to look at the engineering of decorative trusses we had and replicated them for our home. -Finishing: Scott and Bob are phenomenal! Their ability to take a screen shot, or powerpoint picture and make it into reality is remarkable. They asked great questions, stayed close to my wife and I as the project progressed, and delivered a level of quality we were very pleased with. When building a new home, there will always be bumps along the way, categories that run over and run under budget, but what we learned from our first experience is that it’s how your business partner through the project handles this that makes a huge difference. Bottom line, Jay and the DK team were amazing. They followed our maniacal focus of detail, and we always landed on a resolution that we felt was fair and equitable for both parties. Although we don’t want to build another house anytime soon, if we had to, DK would be our go-to. I would strongly encourage anyone looking into a new build, or a remodel to sit down with the team at DK and get to know them. During these types of projects, chemistry is everything, and in the end you have ask yourself, “when this is all over, would I want to have these guys over for a BBQ or a drink?” and for us, it’s an easy yes, and we are looking forward to doing just that! A Custom Built Quality Home with attention to detail is what you can expect when you choose DK Homes as your builder. Starting with design Ben was such a pleasure to work with. Between brainstorming together and Ben's expertise in design, he created a floor plan that fit perfectly with our lot inside and out. As our home was being built Jay and Jacob were in contact with us every step of the way to ensure every detail was completed to our expectation. We were also very pleased with the beautiful craftsmanship of their sub-contractors. The finish work was beyond our expectation. From our first meeting with Jay to our move in day - DK Homes provided an amazing home building experience. Budgets were on target, staff was always a pleasure to work with and their build quality is second to none. My wife and I built our dream home in Byron Center and could not be more pleased. Everyone who comes to visit comments on the detail work. From the custom barn doors to the beams in the sitting room. Scott, the finish carpenter is an absolute artist and Mary their in house designer is so much fun to work with. I hope we never move, but if we do, will definitely call DK Homes to build us another home!

Great craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout the build process. This was the second custom home my wife and I have built and Jay DeKline and his team made it our easiest build. Never any drama or surprises. If anytime during the build we had a concern or we're considering a change, the DK team listened and did their best to accommodate us. A new build or remodel can be very stressful, but the DK team worked hard to make the build process enjoyable and when it was over, they handed over to us a well built, beautiful AND clean home. Truly, truly enjoyed working with them.

DK Homes builds beautiful custom homes. Jay, Mary, Schaefer & Ben are a pleasure to work with! All contractors were courteous, paid close attention to detail and completed work in a timely manor. DK homes built our modern farmhouse custom home. We were allowed to be creative and Jay was able to catch our vision and produce a product that we LOVE. The on staff trim carpenters Are awesome, talented and meticulous. Such an important part when building a custom home. I would say one of the builders best assets is the way he communicates with you and leaves no stone unturned, and the way he works to catch your vision and Produce the home of your dreams.
