I'm an interior designer and working with contractors back in Chicago is an absolute nightmare. It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to work with John and his team of ARTISTS on my own personal/non-client home on the Cape. I posted many pictures so you could see his attention to detail. The tile work was amazing, John is trustworthy, fair, and so communicative while getting straight to the point and not talking your ear off. Even when something goes wrong, he works hard to do the best he can to make you happy and get done ON TIME!! Basically no contractor does that as many design professionals can attest. He is one in a million. I would (and WILL) work with him again and again. I've already recommended him to multiple of my neighbors, one of which will be using @design after the summer. I can't say enough good things about him, his team, or their work. I was fighting a VERY serious illness during this renovation which could've exacerbated the situation, but instead it gave me something to look forward to and kept me going. What a blessing John has been! Thank you for your kindness and professionalism throughout this process. I am a picky perfectionist and he withstood this OCD designer's level scrutiny. Love your impeccable work.

John and his team of experts did an awesome job of remodeling our kitchen in Harwich. Each member of the team including Al, Rich, Kemp, Adam, Bob were very respectful, on time, and did excellent work. I look forward to working with @design REMODEL again. Project was on time and no cost overruns.

We are so happy we went with @designREMODELl!!! We hired them for a Kitchen Remodel in Harwich, MA. After the first meeting, with John Clark, we knew he was the person to hire. John listened to what we were looking for. Then he came back to us with a very detailed design proposal that included every step in the process. After working with us on a few changes, the project began. We were not living there at the time the remodel was being done, but John always updated us with the progress and would send photos. Our project was not with out a few issues, but John took on all the headaches and gave us piece of mind. When we met with the other contractors, they wanted us to do most of the leg work. This entailed going to a design person, then the cabinet area, located in a different town then the designer, then a flooring place and so on. John took took care of all of the coordination from start to finish. He exceeded our expectations and we could not be happier with the results!!!! You will be happy you hired him!!!

We could not have asked for a more professional and courteous team to take care of our kitchen/living area renovation! Every craftsman/woman who entered my home treated me and my home with respect. We are accustom to 'issues' arising when attempting to update our home. John and Mike were willing to work with the challenges posed in this project to meet our requests throughout the project. Lynn, the designer, was helpful in initially directing the project. We are very pleased with the level of detail from the tile contractor, Adam. We had a complicated tile mural that is one of the focus areas of the kitchen and it turned out beautifully. The plumber, Al, went above and beyond the scope of the kitchen plumbing as he oversaw the installation of a new gas heater. The paint specialist, Kemp, was able to blend the many different wood tones in our living area to make it look much more consistent. The electrical contractor, Richard, worked through the various issues of our once all-electric home. This project did exceed the original schedule with scope changes being a contributing factor. Also worth noting--the constant communication between us and John during the project was very much appreciated. He has checked up on us several times since wrapping this up in March.

John Clark (@designREMODEL) was first hired to replace all of our old windows. This involved a lot of carpentry work building custom window frames. His crew was so meticulous that they re-shingled an entire outside area because the old window was originally installed 1/4" off balance.
Next, John was hired to remodel our kitchen. The project was completed within our time frame and the results are phenomenal. John's master carpenter, Mike, replicated a custom stove hood with reclaimed lumber that is a show stopper. John and his entire staff are friendly and easy to deal with. We were kept abreast of progress and involved when questions arose. Work areas were left tidy and the house left clean. John is an obsessive cleaner.
John aims to please his customer. He even returned, after project completion, to hang a hat rack for us. I won't hesitate to use him again on future projects. He's a good guy with good intentions and a good crew.

After 17 years of living with 2 white on white on white bathrooms I decided to redo both at the same time. I found @designREMODEL on-line and after my first meeting with John I knew his firm was the right one for the job. Even in the first meeting I could tell he was very attentive to the details and would make the experience go as smoothly as possible. I had an idea of what I wanted but John was great at bringing ideas to the table and his entire team of craftsman were always open to changes and new ideas. And there were quite a few changes. The project expanded to include not just 2 full bathrooms, one of which had to remain somewhat functional as I was living in the house throughout the project, but a laundry area, wood floors in a master bedroom and the replacement of all interior doors.
Mike, Adam, Al, Rick and Kemp all did an incredible job throughout all aspects of the job. Everyone John brought in had a similar attention to detail and was always open and accommodating to my last minute changes. They always took care to make sure the house was as put together and clean as possible during the 3 month project. As with any renovation there were issues along the way but they were always handled professionally and solved as quickly as possible.
The project is complete and in addition to unbelievable bathrooms I feel like I have a brand new house. I was so pleased with the overall renovation that I have already secured John and his team for another project. It is never easy to live through a renovation but the process and end result were well beyond what I could have hoped for.

It took me a long time to pull the trigger on some necessary remodeling, largely because the process can be so disruptive to daily life, particularly when one works out of the home. I found John through an online search. I had two projects done by John: a kitchen remodel in a condo, and a master bath remodel in my home. While he did a super job on the kitchen remodel, I didn’t fully appreciate the top-to-bottom quality of his work until I had work done in the same home I live in, and lived with the project day to day.
Communication – from our first meeting through each day of the process, John clearly communicated project steps, requirements, and schedules so that I always understood where the project was at, who was coming to the house and at what time, and any concerns that arose. John was a pleasure to work with, and was thorough and articulate in his presentation. There were times I surfaced a concern on a weekend – expecting to hear back from him Monday morning – and received a response immediately. Essentially the general contractor on the project, any questions I had went directly through John and he would notify his team as required. I didn’t have to track down the individual tradespeople myself, John handled all of it, and would check in with me when he wasn’t onsite. In my opinion, this level of communication had an enormous impact on resolution of problems and the successful outcome of the project.
Prep – with nearly-white carpet and tile throughout my home, I was very apprehensive about having a half dozen people coming and going in the dead of winter. His first day onsite, John laid plastic sheeting from my back door to the worksite, and covered all the furniture in the room adjoining the worksite. It was laid carefully and lasted throughout the life of the project, saving my floor surfaces from unnecessary damage.
Workmanship – John’s team provided quality workmanship, across every trade represented: plumbing, electric, painting, drywall, tiling, glass, carpentry were all performed in a professional manner with excellent results. Everyone was pleasant and friendly, and proficient in their work. The relationships between John and his crew are long-term and proven, and obviously so.
Cleanliness – At the close of each day, my home was cleaned up to the degree that no one might have been there at all that day. When John was there, he would vacuum the entire “walkway” from backdoor to worksite at the end of each day. I never had to trip over in-progress work during the process.
On Time, on Budget - enough said.
Ultimately, I was very pleased with the outcome of the project, and would have John do work again in a heartbeat. The disruption to my life was minimal, and there was no collateral damage which I have unfortunately found to be the case in previous situations with less reputable contractors. I have already recommended him to others who are in turn very happy with his work.

John and his team did a fabulous job renovating our bathroom, laundryroom, and bedroom. The bathroom tile work is exceptional. Most importantly, the project was managed in a highly professional manner from start to finish - thorough planning; transparent pricing; sensitivity to deadlines; and great communications. I highly recommend this team and would definitely work with them again in the future.

Over the years my husband and I had had many talks and visions about the day we would update our kitchen and bath in out now 28 year old Cape style home. When the time came and we decided to finally do the remodel we considered ourselves quite fortunate because my husband is a plumber by trade. Since he owns his own plumbing company he has personally had the opportunity to work with as well as for many local contractors. Therefore, he has had the advantage of seeing how dozens of remodeling companies manage projects, their quality of work and how pleased the clients were during and after the project was complete. I often heard from him how some projects took much too long, were disorganized and he often had to contend with disgruntled clients. He knew we had many options and quite a few great choices for our remodeling project when it came to contractors and who they worked with throughout a project. He also knew a select group of contractors that stood out for their well-managed projects resulting in happy clients. One of these companies was @designREMODEL. Al has worked with John, the owner of @designREMODEL on many projects over the last several years and was typically impressed with how well the projects were managed, the cleanliness of his job sites, the high quality workmanship and ultimately how delighted John’s clients were at the end of the project.
We started this process with many ideas of what we wanted but only a vague idea of what we needed; and we were not quite sure how to make it all happen. We sat down with John at the design phase and he asked lots of questions and listened to what we had to say. I liked that he provided many ideas and suggestions on how to make our project better. During the design phase, he went with us to visit different vendors and helped provide additional guidance to keep us on track.
Within a short time period, John came back to us with a well-organized and well thought out proposal in writing that detailed the entire project. Everything and everyone needed to complete the project was included. At that point my husband and I knew we were ready to get started.
So did the entire project go smoothly without any glitches and stayed right on time schedule? NO. I learned that remodeling is really organized chaos of sorts that is best guided by an experienced hand. We were happy John provided that hand although the project since both my husband and I work and also have two teenagers to take care of. There were some tough days and I thought that the remodeling would never end, especially when my husband threw a curve ball and found that our shower was cracked and we needed to turn the minor bathroom remodel into a major remodel. John handled this as a mere speed bump in the process and gladly put in the additional time and effort to get the bathroom complete.
There was a low point in the project when we realized, after it was installed, that the granite countertop was not the color we thought we had selected. As it turned out, the color sample we looked at only represented a small portion of the slab and that there was a lot more variation then we had anticipated based on the small piece of stone we were given to work with. Unfortunately, the backsplash tile we had originally selected did not work with the granite that was installed. I was impressed that John stepped up and took responsibility for the mix up and said we’re going to make everything right. He did by taking home the non-returnable tile we had originally selected and paying for the replacement tile.
Pro’s of working with @designREMODEL
Great understanding of my design sense. I absolutely love how my home looks now!
Clean, neat and organized. It was messy at times, but they kept it under control.
Craftsmanship. Awesome!
Great communicator. John was very considerate about keeping us informed which helped with ouor personal planning
Team. I was comfortable with everyone John had working on our home (which is important when you have children involved) especially his plumber!
Con’s of working with @designREMODEL
Selection of countertop. Knowing what I know now, I would have preferred to see the stone countertops in a full slab. John agreed that it is more ideal to request that clients view their chosen slab in its entirety rather than from a sample whenever possible.
All in all, this was an exciting, daunting and a sometimes overwhelming remodel of our entire first floor of our home, it was made far easier having John and his excellent team of craftsmen making it all happen. Al and I highly recommend this company without reservation. In fact, if you are thinking of remodeling your bath or kitchen, call John Clark today for a quote.

We are delighted with our new kitchen! We have new cabinets, our dishwasher is now under the cabinet near the sink, which is new as well as the faucet, our microwave is now over the stove, off the counter top, we added an island with lots of storage, and installed under cabinet and pendant lights both with dimmers. We also had added corian counter tops. Finally, new flooring was installed throughout the living and dining areas. The experience was better than we expected, and John was very sensitive to the disruption that a kitchen remodel can cause doing his best to make our lives as "normal" as possible during the renovation. He kept us informed throughout the project of any changes to the timeline, which were minimal. There were no surprises, the trade partners showed up when they were supposed to and were pleasant and professional. The design is functional and the quality of the cabinets, hardware, and lighting are excellent. I can't think of anything they could have done better! I would highly recommend John and his team for your remodeling project.
