Zack did major kitchen demolition and renovation for us a few years back. Since than we had flood in the house and needed to rebuild half of the house (luckily not the kitchen) and worked with a different contractor. We had construction in our investment properties since than as well. If you can hire Zack, please do with no doubts, we missed him every step on the way. You will not only get a product that you will enjoy for years after, but your experience with the process will be like not any other. We also had some challenging decisions to make and find solutions to problems that were unique. Zack did proper research and spent countless number of hours to ensure high quality and safety. His solution to waterproof tiles on the patio floor prooved to be amazing after years, our kitchen table was unsafely designed at first, and thanks to Zack we have unique peace of furniture that doesn't compromise on beauty while made safely.

We hired Zack’s team for our big kitchen & bathroom renovation. Our house is a colonial from the 30’s and both kitchen and bathroom were very dated with original plumbing & wiring. The planned renovation was a big investment and disruption for us so hiring the right general contractor was key. I work in the industry and crossed paths with Dettmore Home Improvements a few years ago, and remembered how detailed they were, which is something you don’t see often in the renovation world full of sloppy, fast, builder’s grade work. Fast-forward to the beginning of the fall when we met with Zack, and showed him the house and my drawings (I did the design because that’s what I do for a living and he was ok with that). He gave us a price quote within a few days (pricing is very fair for what you get). We settled on a start date at the end of October which worked for us as well as his schedule. I have to be honest - I was dreading the renovation because I was very aware of how disruptive and messy renovations are and we were going to live in our house through it all. I work from home (= soon to be construction zone), we have two kids and a third one on the way. But quite impressively, this renovation was possibly the smoothest, most stress-free renovation I have ever been a part of (and there were many). First of all, they protected our home with care and installed floor protection everywhere + plastic separation as necessary for dust management. The demo removed everything, including sheetrock, insulation and subfloor which isn’t always common. Zack’s team then re-framed all walls and floors to make sure they are perfectly level. This is quite rare, but definitely the way to do it right. I was also quite impressed with their electrical & plumbing crews. They were possibly the neatest electricians/plumbers I have ever met - outstanding work! As far as finish work such as paint, trim, carpentry etc - I’m still not sure how they do it, but everything they touch is precise and meticulous. They are true craftsmen and we are very impressed with their level of detail and quality of work. It’s so hard to come by skilled people like that. The schedule was packed and the entire team worked tirelessly to meet the tight deadline and wrap everything up before Christmas, which they did. Zack also managed the whole project and took care of the construction permits, scheduling, as well as inspections. He communicated with us about everything and was always quick to answer our questions, remained professional but also fun to work with. We are loving our home now, and it’s all thanks to Dettmore. We cannot thank their entire team enough, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a local general contractor. We’d give them 10 stars if we could!

Zack isn't just a contractor. He's an artist who's medium is construction. A problem solver, craftsman, perfectionist and a pleasure to work with. As an architect, it is great working with a contractor who makes me look so good!

I strongly recommend Dettmore Home Improvements. They do beautiful, high-quality work. And they’re creative, flexible, honest, and easy to work with. We worked with Zack and his team to gut and renovate two bathrooms. Our house is nearly 100 years old, so there were lots of unexpected structural, plumbing and electrical challenges buried inside the walls. Plus, the kids' bath is a small, awkward space with limited options. Dettmore's team listened to what we wanted, but also provided great ideas and creative solutions, and they were flexible with options. For example, they built a beautiful custom vanity in the kids’ bath to maximize the space. These guys are also incredibly focused on quality. They pay attention to details that matter – even things you can’t see now, like the way they anchored two knee walls into the floor joists, and the extra time they spent putting protective coating on the tub so it wouldn’t get scratched during construction. I'd recommend them any time, for big or small jobs. In fact, I already have. But you should also look at their Instagram feed. The thought, care and dedication to craft are all obvious there, too.

I needed barn doors in my daughter's room installed. I was given Zachary's contact information from a friend after other contractors either never called me back, didn't want to be bothered or wanted to give me an estimate in two months (maybe). Zachary's communication was great, he was able to fit me in between his larger jobs and although the job ended up being more difficult than originally anticipated, (doors were shipped unassembled and hardware was not fitting properly) he never once complained. He always made me feel like my small job was a priority and he and his crew showed up on time and were very professional. They even cleaned up the space. Thank you so much! I would use them again and again!

Zach and his team really care about the finished product and doing it right and you really don’t find that too often. They research the latest methods and materials and seem to really enjoy what they do. I am most definitely hiring them for all my remodel work.

At first we hired Dettmore to finish our attic. We were so pleased with the results that we also hired Zachary and his crew to remodel our bathroom and to replace all of our bedroom windows. Zachary is friendly, trustworthy, professional, and knowledgeable. His craftsmanship is superb and we could not be happier with the results. Highly recommended!

Zach has done the following - 2 baths, Kitchen, gutted and rebuilt the 2nd floor, tiled the back room, as well as, act as a GC for a new roof and windows and many misc projects along the way. I have nothing but good things to say about his work. He is professional (and clean) and "sweats" the details and does not "skimp". He is a meticulous builder, with an eye for design. I would highly recommend him. You will not go wrong with Zach, his work, or his work ethic. On a side note- In 2017 we moved from West Orange to Ohio, everyone commented how beautiful the house is and what nice design choices were made. Zach had good input on the project which let my wife and I, think about different design options. My only regret is he is not available in Ohio.

I have known Zach for a couple of years now. Over that time, he has helped make structural modifications to our home. I've admired his work ethic as well as his craftsmanship. He is trustworthy, a good listener and makes the effort to truly understand his customers' needs. He has always provided me his honest opinion often informing me of other choices & options - sometimes at the expense of potentially adversely affecting his business. I appreciate that honesty. I would strongly recommend Zach as I already do to my friends.

I have used this guy multiple times, finally feel compelled to write a review, as I literally called him desperate for help and he saved my day. He's worked on my home 3 times now since 2004 and asked me if I'd be interested in writing a review. I've had what feels like a lot of experience with trying to find a decent contractor and tradesmen, Dettmore is by far the most honest and fair that I have ever experienced in this line of work, he originally did all my trim in finished basement many moons ago, in 2009 he re-did my 2nd bath and kitchen, and paused 2 different projects yesterday to help me in a huge bind when I found myself hopelessly trying to replace my utility sink that had me BEYOND struggling and frustrated. Contractors (in my humble experience) cannot easily be trusted, this guys different, period.

Can't say enough positive things about Dettmore Home Improvements. Zach was always very professional and very pleasant to work with. His final price was what he said it would be with no surprises and his work time line was spot on. His crew of workers were professional and very respectful of our home, always cleaning up after themselves. Just wish all contractors could be as reliable as Dettmore. A full bathroom remodel including demolition, tub to shower change, wall and floor tile, Installation of all fixtures, plumbing, electrical and removal. Work was done in a very professional and timely fashion. Consideration and respect to homeowners in regard to cleanliness combined with excellent communication make Dettmore Home Improvements stand out from professionals that I have used in the past. The owner helped breakdown a complex process by answering all questions, via phone and in person, I had and even met with my wife and I to help select tile.
