Erica Keast Heroy, Architect

Erica designed our dream building...an art studio! It functions as a painting studio, photography studio, printmaking studio, has a darkroom, expansive desk area, ample storage, and the option of staying overnight or a month (full bath, kitchenette, loft)! She was able to fit a whole lot into the size of essentially a very tall three car garage rectangle shape. Erica's use of light, lines, function, and form helps fuels our creativity/productivity on a daily basis...we spend more time here than in our home which is 25 feet away. The very high ceilings keep our creative minds expanded. The small details throughout the space are well thought out: wood detail on stair wall/loft area, triangle window in loft, nooks in kitchen and bathroom, splash of color here, splash of geometric tile there, the fixtures and hardware are all unique and give Scandinavian hygge vibes of comfort. It's a place where we are able to dream, think, and create at our best.

When my husband and I purchased our home we had a wish list of renovations we wanted to make but needed an architect not only with the skill and vision to help us bring it to life but let us know when a feature we wanted wouldn’t work. We met with several architects after viewing their work on Houzz and chose to move forward with Erica due to her mix of professionalism, creativity, and directness. In addition to a beautiful design, Erica helped with recommendations on suppliers from fixtures to surfaces. She also helped us get a reality check on cost estimates when our wish lists didn’t match up to our budget. Erica’s design kept the curb appeal and charm of our single-story mid-century home with an open floor plan with a great flow and other modern updates. Even with an additional 600 sq. ft. added, the design lets our house blend in with the other established homes on the street. We’ve had so many compliments on our home and are thrilled with the results. We couldn’t be happier.

We are THRILLED with the spaces that Erica designed for us! We hired Erica to design a new front porch, and a large screened in back porch and deck off the family room. She asked all the right questions, listened carefully to our answers...and then took our "doodle on a napkin" , and created exceptionally cool living spaces that hit every benchmark. Having lived through several renovations in our Seattle home, we know that it’s the attention to detail that makes all the difference. Erica gave us options, collaborating with us to come up with the best design.. Both porches look AMAZING...even better than we planned! We have people stopping and pointing from the street! Erica brought an easy-going professionalism to our remodel, we enjoyed the entire process! The design is gorgeous, and the project was a pleasure!! We are SO HAPPY with our renovation and truly enjoyed working with this talented architect!

We are so happy with our remodeled home! Ms. Heroy did such a wonderful job in transforming an old, dark house with an outdated floor plan into a bright, beautiful and functional modern home. She was always very attentive to our needs, listened patiently to our ideas, and gave us many tips to save money in fixtures and decorating. The house turned out to be better than we had dreamed of. I would call Ms. Heroy for future jobs without hesitation. She was always extremely professional, reasonably priced, honest and straightforward in her communication with us and a pleasure to work with.

We have been living in our remodel for over two years now, and we continue to be thrilled with the results. Erica listened to every need and request from the get-go, but she also offered her expert advice and opinion when it mattered most. For example, we hadn't considered changing the fireplace area, but her suggestions for framing it out and making it more of a focal point were spot on. This was also the case with the addition of the entry way opening that viewed the dinning room. It could've been just a simple wall removal or half-wall. But Erica took the time to design a unique wood encased opening that beautifully incorporated the white-washed wood we were already using in the living room. It really helped to tie the design together. Through the entire process she kept in mind my fondness of mid-century modern, and my husband's preference for southwestern style. In the end, we were left with an incredibly functional, beautiful space that incorporates both of our styles, and works so well for our family. I will never work with another architect. She is truly gifted!

Erica has been so incredibly helpful in our remodeling process. She drew plans, worked with the city on permitting, worked with our contractor, provided expert design advice, and all of her work is professional and timely. I really feel like we couldn't have done it without her. She was invaluable with helping choose finishes that fit into our budget but look high end and really fit our style. I will definitely use her again and recommend her without reservations.

I have had the pleasure of working with Erica on several projects of varying sizes and she has been incredible to work with on each of them. She is super creative and very thoughtful in her designs, making sure that every share inch of the home is integrated into the overall design of the home. She is also a great team player - making regular site visits and working closely with the owners, builder, and subs to ensure the design is perfectly implemented. She is a hard worker, willing to go the extra mile to make the home shine!
