FBC Remodel

We remodeled our basement in 2018 with FBC and the experience was so positive that we hired them to remodel our main level when we moved into our new home in 2021. With a project of this scope it was invaluable to have the initial design meetings to incorporate our vision with the designers ideas. This was followed by subsequent design meetings to meld the two. The 3D renderings are priceless in visualizing what different options will look like. Lindsay and Katie were able to get an idea of what our style was quickly and really helped elevate our original vision. They can manipulate the 3D renderings on the spot to see what different options would look like as well. Before the construction began we were given a very detailed timeline. Anytime there were changes or delays (which I have to say were minimal, especially with the supply chain and covid obstacles) we were notified and given almost daily updates on the progress. Communication is EXCELLENT with the design team and project managers. They are well organized and detail oriented. After the project was complete we had minor things that needed to be touched up and Nick was highly responsive and got the issues taken care of quickly. We have recommended many friends who have ultimately used FBC as well for their home projects and we will continue to do so! We decided to remodel our basement in 2019, and, of all the companies we interviewed, FBC Remodel offered the most organized, best designed, most exciting plan. They took care of everything, from conducting an inspiring design meeting to contracting to mitigate asbestos and wall bracing to carefully working to add finishing touches to make it all beautiful. They stayed exactly on schedule and communicated clearly with us at every step. We are in love with the result. In fact, FBC’s renovation of our basement has made us feel like we purchased a new home. They turned an outdated, largely unusable space into a multi-use space we love. We would recommend this company to anyone.

FBC did an outstanding job on a full basement remodel for our 88-year-old brick bungalow. Their people and their design-plan-build process have our highest possible recommendation. We bought the place knowing we would need to have work done—the basement had been through multiple DIY partial upgrades, the plumbing, HVAC & electrical all needed updating, and nothing was integrated. FBC’s website impressed us with clear explanations, photographs, and forthright cost information while we were in the research and collecting quotes phase. We could’ve done yet another partial upgrade here and update there, but instead we chose FBC and never looked back. The schedule was laid out with a clear timeline, and the design process was a real and enjoyable collaboration. Matt and the rest of the FBC team took our initial vague ideas and turned them into a variety of plans for us to discuss and choose from. More discussion fine-tuned our choices so we could be confident the final plan would include exactly what we wanted within our budget. Communication was excellent every step of the way. We had a dedicated production manager who took great care of us. Dominic made sure we met all the various trade contractors who would be working on our site, and once construction began, he kept us fully informed about daily progress and upcoming plans. He was also tremendously helpful with questions and requests for changes and additions. All the contractors were fantastic too. Every one of them managed to keep mess and disruption to a minimum while performing all-around exceptional work. And the results? Absolutely fantastic. Better than we ever dreamed it could be, and we had some big dreams. The space went from “game room surrounded by dirty, dark spaces full of old mechanical stuff, pipes & wiring” to three fresh, brightly-lit, multi-purpose rooms & a clean, airy, laundry/storage area. We are thrilled to pieces.

We could not have been more impressed with FBC. From design to finish, they were professional, communicated very well and did excellent work. Even though we were prepared to have a mess on our hands, they cleaned up up not only the work space each day, but also the areas they traveled in the rest of the house. We never had to do any extra cleaning throughout the project, very unexpected but appreciated! They also worked closely with our A/V provider and that could not have gone better. Amber was awesome, Gene the project manager was great and the followup from the rest of team since the project was finished has been impressive. We will definitely be using them in the future for kitchen and bath projects.

I went into our basement project thinking it would be another major hassle - just like previous projects I've done with other companies. However, from the initial strategy sessions where they explored numerous ideas with us (the 3D walk through modeling was awesome), to helping us modify the options to accommodate our budget, through on-time completion, it was anything but that. We enjoyed the process from start to finish, and the FBC team was professional, responsive, and customer-oriented the entire time. I've recommended them to all of my friends.

We love FBC. They were very professional throughout the entire process! They have excellent customer service and communication. They even helped us out with advice and other items not on their list. I worked with Matt and Dominic, and they were great! One really feels like they have a personal relationship with them. They responded very promptly to all of our questions, comments and concerns. And, they did a great job meeting the deadline which was very important to us because we were expecting a baby!

Excellent work and a great team. My only complaint was getting some minor details completed in a timely manner and the use of flat paint. If I had known flat paint was being used, I would have requested a satin finish paint.

Finished Basement did a gut remodel of our basement in 2012. They presented us with 3 three creative options at different price points (we chose the intermediate one). The project encompassed about 1000 square feet (in a 70 year old house) and involved removal of bearing walls with installation of steel beams, posts and footings. The project turned out very well and was priced quite competitively. We liked their approach so much that we had them concurrently remodel our main floor kitchen and called them back four years later to do a small bathroom project. Their strong points were strong coordination between the design and build sides, very competitive price, and inclusion of pretty much everything in the bid (including painting). The quality was excellent and their responsiveness was excellent. As with any remodel, there was a week or two when progress stalled, but the pace of work was overall very reasonable. Finally, I note that the project manager was good at keeping us on budget, asking questions like, "Do you really think you need granite counter tops in your basement?" When you are steered away from superfluous expensive options, you are usually dealing with an ethically run business!

The design team is superb. The project managers, assistant project managers and trades are knowledgeable, professional, and responsive. The entire team is very customer service focused. Excellent, top-notch company!

We love our kitchen/main floor renovation! We live the design and new products in the kitchen. The trades gave us everything we asked for and our project manager was at our house most days to check on our satisfaction with the job and to work on the things that he said he outdoor personally.

This company was a pleasure to work with. Great communication all the way around. Very responsive to any and all concerns. Project finished on time and to our complete satisfaction. They even came back and replaced a light that we had no intention of complaining or even asking about. The company did a excellent job with my basement. The designer was attentive to all are needs. The project manager was professional and courteous and was available anytime if we had questions. The contractors were also respectful and courteous and cleaned up after themselves. The project was done in time and on budget.

We got three estimates when we decided to finish our basement. One didn't seem to understand our needs, and we eliminated them quickly. The other two had comparable bids. Finished Basement was actually a little more expensive, but the design work they did up front was the deciding factor. Erin spent time with us understanding our needs and her design work was fantastic! She incorporated elements from things she overheard our kids saying, so they would love it too. Erin transferred to another office mid-project, but Darcie picked right up where she left off without a hitch. Great design work and high touch throughout. The build side also went pretty well. Our original project manager quit halfway through the project, but James picked up the workload and made everything happen. That couldn't have been easy. At the time of transition, there were a few items that got dropped, but when I called them to James' attention he got them taken care of immediately. In the end, they finished a day or two ahead of schedule and exactly on budget. We love the end result and have been enjoying our new theater room, family space and exercise room! Finished Basement did a great job, start to finish.

All the people we dealt with at the Finished Basement Company were great! Our designer Erin was amazing! She was always there for us when we had questions and to help us with the parts we were doing ourselves. Our project manager Gene was awesome! He was there every step of the way keeping us informed and making sure the project stayed on schedule. All the contractors were professional, courteous, and did a great job.

We contracted with FBC to design and build our dream basement this summer and we couldn't be more pleased with the results! From start to finish, Erin (designer) and Pat (construction PM) were incredibly professional and thoughtful and perhaps best of all: they listened to us! We had a lot of opinions about what we wanted and Erin was very patient with us to understand exactly the vibe we were going for. Our design centered around 4 main areas: a home theater/family room, a play area, a home sports bar and a gym. We were worried we were cramming too much in to the space but after seeing the design in their CAD software and the resulting virtual walk through it was clear that we could do it all without feeling cramped. It was impressive to watch them make changes to the design in real time and then instantly see the results in 3D. With the design completed, Pat took over. He confirmed the design was able to be built and then arranged an on site meeting with all the sub-contractors to ensure everyone was on the same page. Pat checked in on an almost daily basis to ensure the project was progressing as planned and it was clear he had a ton of construction experience as he spotted things before they turned in to bigger problems. We had one minor set back with the coffers in our bar area but FBC resolved it quickly and got us back on track...it was truly a stress free experience. It's daunting to have your house turned in to a construction site for so many weeks, especially with a 2 year old who naps in the afternoon. However, I will say that all the contractors were clean, quiet (as quiet as they could be) and polite. Pat did a great job managing our expectations about noise and the timing of arrival for each trade. Overall we couldn't be happier! As you'll learn on your first meeting with FBC it's their iterative and refined implementation process that makes them so efficient. (Excuse the mess in the photos! It turns out our basement is now our favorite place to play!)

Finished basement, and in particular Tim and Erin, did a wonderful job designing and finishing our basement and achieving our vision. They were wonderful to work with, really listened to us, paid attention to detail, communicated well, and even came back and helped us correct a problem that wasn't even theirs to fix--for free! Their workmanship is solid, and they adhered to timelines. We are delighted with our finished basement!

We are very proud of our new basement! Miranda, one of the designers, did an incredible job of optimizing our space and providing details and touches that the other basement companies couldn't. Olivier, our project manager, did a wonderful job of executing the entire project and communicating along the way. The challenges that he ran into were quickly resolved. I was able to focus on my job, rather than baby-sitting the entire project. Although other basement refinishing companies might quote lower prices, you get what you pay for. FBC did a wonderful job and we are confident our investment will be re-captured when we sell our house.

We hired the Finished Basement Company to remodel our 1500 sf basement. From our first meeting to final walkthrough they were professional, well-organized and fun to work with. Our project started and ended on time, even with the somewhat unexpected delay of asbestos abatement. Rachael and Melissa were great designers, and Jamie was a fantastic project manager! Thank goodness we don't have another basement to remodel, but if we did, we would definitely hire them again!

Finished Basement Co did our basement years ago and recently did our complete kitchen remodel. We are beyond thrilled with the kitchen and are loving it every day. Everyone from our designer to project manager to all the specialists who worked on individual tasks were exceptional. FBC did a great job of turning our unfinished basement into a beautiful new media room. We had a difficult lay out with numerous columns and many sprinkle heads- often at different heights. They incorporated the columns into the space in such a way that it appears the columns were a part of the design from the beginning. Their tradesman were professional, courteous, clean, and did exceptional work. They met the deadline and budget requirements.

Finished Basement Company was great to work with and provided great service. We finished 1200 sq feet. We started by working with a designer to get the details. Our basement consisted of 2 bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, gaming area, wet bar and living room. Our designer helped us configure the lay out. When construction started Jason made sure each contractor was on time, organized and cleaned up after each evening. We did all the finish work so it was a partial finish. The team was great. We used FBC out of St. Louis Park MN for the finish of our basement. 1/3 was already complete, 2/3 using FBC. We loved the original design and that thankfully lead to a finished product that we are happy with. The process of getting there however is what earns FBC the low rating. Our first clue should have been when the designer quit before the project even started...then PM #1 quit, then PM#2...Perhaps this was an indication of what was happening internally? Resource issues plus lots of rework and frustration resulted in 7 months to complete our "3 month" project/

We hired FBC to partially design and finish the majority of our basement in October of 2013. The work continued through the spring, and into the summer of 2014. I have stated the project date basement on the last piece of work they finally finished. I continue to get mailings from them, and they suggest checking them out on Houzz (my original review is on another, common business-review site). So here you are. While the design process was fun and there were some wonderful, creative tradespeople, the overall experience left a very bad taste. Over the past several months we have made some changes to improve it, and ultimately we are happy with our basement. But according to their website and promotional materials, you’ll experience “no headaches construction” and “quick and efficient completion” with “highly organized” project managers and “frequent communication.” This did not happen for us. “Quick and efficient completion”. The project manager originally said that our basement would be complete by January 31st, 2014 (we needed to extend the original finish date from December, which was fair, because we decided to expand the project). The project manager claims the end date was March 17th because of the final inspection (thereby avoiding paying us a greater late fee). In order to pass as soon as possible, they rushed and faked their way through it. For example, they hung incorrect doors to pass inspection (other outstanding items: staining and hanging the real doors, millwork repair, and top coating which completed mid-April). I would argue that when your house stinks from staining, the project is not complete. There was also a hole in our foundation where the fireplace people wrongly drilled a large hole that was not completely repaired until JUNE 11, 2014. It was probably only finally completed because FBC came back to us after the final payment seeking more money and we would not pay until it was done. These people are not “highly organized” or good at communication, and the best example of this was a second “final” invoice we received mid -May for money (over $20K) they forgot to bill us. We thought that they had given us a discount for their incredible lateness and our incredible patience for the numerous errors that occurred during the process. While the discount that we thought we had was larger than the late days (and they only sent back auto-replies to my emails to them about this matter), they did not deduct a late fee from the final price until we threatened them with not paying any of the money for their billing error. They even attempted to get us to sign a release stating that we would not make negative comments about them and releasing them from all liability on the basement--just to get the late fees owed to us by the original contract. We did not sign the document, and they cashed the check, presumably ending this brutal relationship, other than the frequent junk mailings we receive. The consistent errors and mistakes in the project, along with the unknown and constantly changing schedule, the total confusion in billing at all times (they were sure to calculate additional charges for us, but did not take into account items we removed from the project, such as two reclaimed beams, custom corbels, rope lighting, etc.) the “new” final bill, and their ridiculous attempt at getting out of their liability, makes our story a cautionary tale.

I really appreciate being hired as Finished Basement Denver's photographer to document their completed projects. They are very easy to work with and always have a designer there on location to help me stage the space to look it's best. One of the fun parts for me is seeing all the different and creative ways the company designers and contractors have finished the projects. This was the second time we used Finished Basement Company. The first time I would rate five stars. Both times the design was very good use of space and less expensive than another firm. Their subcontractors do very good work. The first time we used them they completed the project on time, the second was overdue by one month (took four instead of three), so still pretty quick actually. The reason for only four stars this time is because we felt the overall value wasn't quite as good as the first time. Great people to work with. One thing I would caution would be when it comes time for the framing, be sure to be there and make sure they follow exactly to plan. We had to have them redo parts of the framing on both projects. Quality work though when complete and we love the new space.

Finished basement company transformed my unfinished basement into a dream woodshop. Early on the designer understood what I was trying to achieve and came up with some great designs. The designs included all the things I was looking for. Integrated dust collection, compressed air, etc. Once we moved into the construction phase everything moved very smoothly. The project manager was great. He kept me up to date on what was scheduled for each day and would meet me early in the morning or afternoon or whatever worked best for my schedule. I would definitely recommend this company.
