We had been looking for a builder to finish our basement into an apartment for a family member, and after interviewing several local builders we chose Merrill for two main reasons: fixed price and professionalism. Most builders we spoke with were cost plus X%, and based on the horror stories we had heard from others about huge overruns we knew we wanted the assurance that fixed price brings. What also set Merrill apart was their professionalism, both in person and in presentation, giving a detailed price proposal that far outclassed the other proposals we received. Though they were on the higher-end of the bids we got, we picked them knowing that we'd only pay for what we agreed to. We spent several months iterating on plans and designs, utilizing their talented staff to make recommendations, and arrived to a scope, design, and price that we were comfortable with. Within a few weeks work began and we were shocked at both the speed and quality of the work of their contractors. All of their staff including sub-contractors were incredibly friendly, polite, and professional. Throughout the build the communication was excellent, and we always knew what the next steps were. The project finished several weeks ahead of schedule and at the agreed budget. Most importantly, our family member loves the space! Overall we are very satisfied with our experience and would recommend anyone looking to consider Merrill Construction for their project.

We bought a house that was built in 1937 but had various work done over the years. We loved the bones, but wanted to change the floor plan, add a full bath, renovate the kitchen, add an exterior French door, windows, brick stairs and more. From tiles to bricks to plumbing and electrical, Hilson worked with us to create a plan and carry out our wishes down to the last detail. Our project was finished on time and on budget, despite the fact that we included several changes along the way. Merrill's team was responsive, respectful, and delivered top-notch work across the board. We were regularly apprised of what was happening so we were never in. doubt. I hear stories of other home renovations for which the customer ends up supervising half of the work being done, but this was never the case with Merrill Construction. They did what they said they were going to do and did it when they said they were going to do it. Merrill Construction completely took the stress out of our remodel, and I would recommend them to anyone. Should have written this review a while back, but I guess I was too busy enjoying my home!

Merrill construction had done a fireplace and a kitchen redo for my neighbor, who was very happy with the job. I felt Mr Merrill was neat and professional, always took and returned my calls on time and had some good ideas for my fireplace so I accepted his bid to do the job. I liked the fact that everything was written down and that Merrill's supervisor, Thomas, also seemed intelligent and professional. They did a marvelous job. It is beautiful and took less than a week start to finish. Everything was left neat and clean, and Merrill even lowered the amount he originally thought it would cost because it took less time than he had thought it would.

I would definitely hire this construction company again. They did our backyard deck/firepit, kitchen tile, and backsplash. And when my pipes burst they did the hardwood floors, walls, ceiling, molding, and completely renovated the bathroom. They do quality work.

We hired Hilson Merrill to help us add a screened porch to the back of our home as well as add a new roof on our home and porch. The project was completed on time and within budget. Our porch is by far our favorite "room" in our home. It was beautifully designed with the help of a draftsman that Hilson recommended.
