We hired Honeycomb Design + Build (HDB) to renovate the existing footprint of our small 1910 cottage style home to enhance our post retirement lifestyle. Goals were to add a new full bathroom and enhanced living space on the second floor and to improve the layout of our existing, and only, bathroom on the first floor. HDB carried this off beautifully and to our complete satisfaction. HDB’s design and construction phases emphasized communication, collaboration, guidance, and creative attention to the project budget. We were pleased by their careful exterior and interior design recommendations that reflected the character of our home. During construction, HDB raised an extended dormer along the west side roof, with vaulted ceilings, and a series of windows along the dormer adding light and air. This allowed creation of a well-proportioned full bathroom, a master bedroom with added closet space, and a front room that doubles as office or bedroom. First floor bathroom renovations corrected an awkwardly placed toilet, added storage, and insulated beneath the floor, greatly improving comfort and function. We enjoyed working with the HDB team and subcontractors who were polite, good-humored, efficient, and positive. During construction, our weekly onsite meetings with the project manager and architect were especially valuable. On a daily basis, our project manager was consistently present or reachable. Throughout, we were notified of any unavoidable impacts on the construction schedule such as pandemic era supply issues. We chose HDB for a number of reasons, including one that may be important to others with similar health issues. The HDB staff were always aware and conscientious to accommodate the unique severe chemical allergies of one of the homeowners. From beginning to completion this included careful, collaborative planning, choices of finish materials, dust control, HEPA filtration, and alerts when unavoidable noxious materials needed to be used. We recommend Honeycomb Design + Build without hesitation.

We enjoyed working with Honeycomb Design + Build for the renovation of our old kitchen: Pros: -Professionalism - From the start of the process to the end, everyone was always very professional with their handling of the kitchen and the many decisions that needed to be made. The transformation was very impressive to see unfold, and the finished kitchen is beautiful. -Communication - Nearly every day we got phone calls from the contractor to provide honest updates about the renovation. We appreciated the constant communication, which helped ease some of our tension around the process. -Friendliness of Staff - Everyone we worked with was kind and helpful throughout. We felt comfortable sharing our concerns and knowing that they would be handled with patience and sympathy. Cons: -Price - We ended up over our desired budget. Resa, JR and the HDB team went out of their way to make the build-out perfect for us and finish the project within budget and substantially on time despite the pandemic!

We recommend Honeycomb without reservation. They completed a kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room for us. Actual construction ran from 30 Nov 2020 - 19 April 2021. Their strengths are: 1) good listening skills 2) prompt and informative communication 3) skilled design help by Resa, negotiating our vision with our budget and helping us when we disagreed -- plus she's just a delightful, fun, creative person 4) quick and fair remedy of issues 5) excellent productivity and high quality construction 6) integrity and pride in their work We were concerned about doing this project during COVID, but they sealed off that part of the house from us, and the workers wear masks all the time. They also don't overlap with subcontractors, protecting themselves, too. Despite that change -- which might have REALLY slowed down the project -- things still moved apace. Honeycomb likely won't be the least expensive option, but they will be the best value for the money.

Choosing the right company for any remodeling job is always difficult. Over the years we have relied on many companies for a variety of projects. What came as an unexpected surprise for us was finding an incredible company like Honeycomb Design+Bulid. Some of the most important attributes of a project for us are organization, reliability, timeliness, quality, trust, and adherence to the budget. From the very first steps of the project, to the months after it was completed, we were impressed by every aspect of their work. Every promise was kept and every detail was addressed. Having a professional designer like Ann, who listens to you and keeps meticulous records is invaluable. The implementation of a well thought-out design was seamless to us. We genuinely felt that someone was deeply involved in assuring our complete satisfaction with our project. The construction started before COVID and had to continue through the spring. The team reassured us and upheld every health standard and mandate to make us feel safe. The project manager, Dave, was on site daily supervising all contractors that walked into our apartment. Being remote, Honeycomb kept close contact using FaceTime to help us stay on top of the progress. In spite of the obvious manufacturing delays outside of Honeycomb’s control, the project was completed on time. Having worked with many companies over the years, I can confidently say that Honeycomb is the most reliable, professional, and diligent of them all

We loved working with Honeycomb Design and strongly recommend them to others! My husband and I worked with them on two projects, one (smaller) shower remodel and one (bigger) kitchen remodel. On both jobs they were fantastic. Honeycomb helped us create something beautiful, practical, and in budget even though my husband and I have no design sense and limited time. This was really possible because they bring the architect, designer and contractor into the same process. Unlike when we worked with just contractors, this dramatically simplified our experience and streamlined the work. They began by determining what we wanted by having discussions and showing us options, and then iterated with us on the project as it evolved. We got to work with them on architectural drawings, materials design, lighting and electrical placements, and many other things that we did want to be consulted on, but could not create ourselves. They brought choices and helped us make good & practical decisions. Once the work started, they showed up everyday and kept things moving forward at a good clip. When they hit unexpected problems (as all projects do!) they would talk through solutions with us and help us get to one we were happy with. Unlike other contractors and builders we've worked with, they did not lose steam towards the end, but rather kept going until all the little punch-list details were fully done. They were incredibly professional and personable throughout and delivered extremely high quality work. Our friends and family who come over are universally impressed. And, most importantly, we have been delighted to live in and use the spaces they've created!

We hired Honeycomb Design + Build, LLC for a large 1st floor renovation in our home. Our kitchen was completely remodeled and repositioned, expanded to a more open floor plan and we also added a large mudroom off the side of the house. Throughout the process we were vey pleased with the entire Honeycomb team. They were clean, professional and diligently maintained our stated budget, save for a few necessary change orders. Their work was beautiful and the design - build process was seamless. I would highly recommend Honeycomb Design + Build.

I have a small home that was built in 1940. The space was very blocked off (separate living spaces divided by walls with doors.) I wanted to have an open kitchen/dining room and living room and wanted to be able to use my space more efficiently. Also, my chimney and oven were in the middle of the space and I wanted to keep them in the same spot to avoid a complicated (and potentially costly) relocation of gas lines and flue/gas ventilation. I felt like I needed the help of designer to reconfigure the space. I was impressed with the one stop shop approach that Honeycomb Design Build had to offer. I had heard great things about Resa from a friend who worked with her on a commercial construction project. The design they came up with was awesome, and something I would never have thought of on my own. The fireplace and stove/oven turned out to be the coolest part of the layout. Dave and his team constructed seamless floating shelves that wrap around the chimney creating a great focal point. The combination of wood, brick, stainless steel and variations of teal make it a dream space for me. I was nervous about doing a renovation after hearing horror stories from friends and family about bad contractors. But my experience Honeycomb Design Build turned out great! I would definitely recommend Honeycomb Design Build.
