In early 2019 I hired Horizon Pacific Contracting to design and build my family's custom home overlooking Cadboro Bay. The waterfront plot we purchased faced several challenges; it was steep and narrow, covered in sand, and subject to strict building height limitations. Furthermore, the modern design I conceived was very ambitious. In the end, Horizon delivered exactly what I had envisioned. My experience with Horizon was truly collaborative. I vividly imagined how the house would take shape in my mind and freely expressed all my ideas to my project manager Tim. Despite an initial language barrier, we managed to understand one another, and he adeptly offered the most fitting choices and recommendations, ultimately optimizing my ideas. In Horizon, I consider myself fortunate to have found a team of individuals eager to push their limits. I recall the prevailing sentiment was, “We haven't tried it this way before, but we're up for the challenge.” The completion of the house, following the meticulously designed plan, stands as a testament to everyone's dedication and skill. What's truly remarkable is that this entire journey transformed initial apprehension about building a house into a splendid showcase for all. Despite not being a professional designer at the outset, with Tim’s constant encouragement, I transformed conceptual drawings into a tangible reality. The future remains uncertain, but taking that first step towards embracing a new self opens doors to unforeseen possibilities. Today, I proudly own Semicircle Design, my design studio—a dream turned reality that was beyond my initial contemplation. This house is akin to my child, and growing up with it unveils a sense of perfection in my heart despite any imperfections. As I write this, I am seated in the dining area, gazing out at the azure ocean and people strolling on the beach—a scene mirroring the exact landscape I envisioned during the house's design phase. The seamlessly connected open living room linking the kitchen and dining area allows the vibrant energy of the outdoors to embrace every nook of the house. These were the elements I yearned for, and I've transformed them into reality, sharing the experience with my family. What could be more fulfilling than that? Horizon renovated the exterior of our 1983 split-level Langford house and garage this past summer. The original cedar siding boards were rotting and needed replacement along with the footings and a wall on the garage. We decided on Hardiplank. I had Horizon estimate the job along with two other contractors. After a recommendation from a friend and checking their reviews, I decided on Horizon. I was impressed by how professional and efficient the crew was. Each one of the red seal carpenters were clearly experts at their job who take pride in their work. Everyone at the office was pleasant to deal with. From start to finish, it was a first class experience. I will hire Horizon again in a heartbeat.

We have worked closely with Horizon Pacific Contracting to renovate our 110-year-old Oak Bay heritage home. We wanted to make the home more livable while retaining its classic features and intricate mill work. In addition to updating the kitchen and basement, we added space to the sitting room, laundry room, and powder room and with Horizon's help, we included major upgrades to both electrical and plumbing and the driveway, decks, and landscape around the property. Horizon was recommended to us by friends but we still interviewed a number of contractors. It was clear from the first meeting with project manager, Tim Agar, as to why he is highly thought of. He gave us some valuable advice and contacts even before we engaged his services. Once we engaged Horizon, we found that each time Tim stepped foot onto our property he brought immense value by providing many well-thought-out suggestions and cost-saving tips. The other members of the Horizon team and the trades engaged to service the renovation, were always polite and professional and worked efficiently as a team. Tim's integrity and professionalism came to the fore when there was a mishap with the positioning of the kitchen island. Without issue this was quickly resolved by Horizon without cost to us. We know that mistakes can happen and when they do, you want to be assured your contractor will make things right. We know that not all contractors step up like Horizon. We wholeheartedly recommend Horizon.

My husband and I chose Horizon Pacific Contracting to build a 6000 sq ft custom home in North Saanich in 2019 after they successfully completed another project for us in Brentwood Bay. We've done lots of renovations in the past, and had many up and down experiences with contractors, so when Tim Agar became available, we were confident we were hiring the best. We were not disappointed. Our home is everything we hoped it would be and more. Horizon has a reputation for working with good people, and this was proven out in the quality of the trades and professionals they brought on board. Architect Pamela Ubeda and interior designers Kimberly Williams and Elaine Martel were key people in bringing our vision to life, but Tim was the one to keep us moving forward through the various challenges we encountered, including municipal variances, structural issues, and the sale of our old home, to name but a few. In fact, this is one of Tim's greatest qualities. He never got flustered in the face of conflict. He is diplomatic, practical, and an excellent moderator. Building IS stressful, don't let anyone tell you different. You need a good plan, and an organized person to help you over the humps. Tim is also a great collaborator. He offered many excellent ideas that helped us save money and made our home more energy efficient. For example, sine we are both former competitive swimmers, we wanted an indoor pool. Tim came up with the idea for a dehumidification system that recovers 98 per cent of heat loss from the air and pumps it back to heat the pool. Not only does this save us money, but it prevents moisture and that awful chlorine smell from leaking into our house. Horizon's crews, including Vince our site supervisor, came through for us. Everyone that touched our project was top notch. That's why we highly recommend Horizon to anyone looking to build a custom home.

We contracted Horizon Pacific Contracting to do a complete renovation of our home in View Royal right down to the studs. This included changing the entire layout of the house from the kitchen, dining room, laundry room and a small addition to updating the bathrooms and exterior improvements, door and window changes etc. Our home had raised two children – it was time for an update! Horizon staff guided us through the entire process. I did not feel pressured, I felt informed throughout the entire process. This was a large job that threw unknowns and surprises up constantly – and Horizon employees and their sub-contractors constantly looked for solutions with us that always seemed to work out. Strong project management with great workmanship/communication and transparent billing We feel extremely fortunate to have found Horizon and cannot recommend them enough! We absolutely love our home now – it is modern, cozy and comfortable.

Horizon Pacific Contracting built us a custom home last year in Ten Mile Point. Tim and his staff were very professional throughout the process which was echoed by our neighbours. We were impressed that Horizon was able to build us our dream home in a timely fashion especially considering that we were building during one the busiest times for trades. We found, Tim, to be very knowledgeable and he was great with explaining the details involved. We are also happy with the company's post-construction service now that we are living in the home as Horizon has been prompt in assisting us with any issues. Horizon did a fantastic job with our renovation last year, and we can’t recommend them highly enough. They are extremely organized and very good at what they do, which is create beautiful spaces for their clients to live in. Tim Agar is very skilled and experienced and has so many great ideas and recommendations, he is a wealth of knowledge for any renovation or building project. The staff and tradespeople were all personable, skilled, and a pleasure to work with. The whole experience was a pleasure, and they make it very easy, taking care of every detail if you wish, or they are also perfectly happy to have involved homeowners. They’re awesome, really, and we wouldn’t consider calling anyone else now. Highly recommend!

Recently I had an emergency at my home which required some quick action and good work. My sister had just had work done in her home by Horizon Contractors so she recommended to call Sam. He was at my door immediately and not only gave me great advice, but also advised me to take greater care than I thought I needed. He warned me to the danger of the situation I had no idea how bad it was. My deck which was attached to a sunroom, was completely waterlogged and ready to come down. The main beams were like soggy sponges and you could grab gobs of wet pulp in your hands. Sam showed me how serious this was and how the deck had not been built properly. If not taken care of immediately, the deck could come down and pull away the sunroom with it. Sam got a team of the greatest guys, led by James, to leave another bigger job to come and help me out. He said that my glass screen door to the deck was coming off the rails and could have actually exploded. The very next day Sam had a crew at my home at 8:30 am. These were professionals, the work was done so quickly and efficiently, every detail was taken care of, and the quality was beautiful. Whenever I asked anything, the answer was there and better than I had anticipated. James led the team, and Christian and Brian were there working so well together, all really nice guys. Lots of other specialist guys came to totally replace the deck, with new columns underneath, and concrete bases, they even had to jack up the sunroom to put new columns there, and the sliding glass door which a much nicer and more efficient one. The deck was made with a nice rainproof flooring, a better metal top rail, new drywall holding the new small sized window, with it’s own easy to use blind inside so it would never get dirty, and double sided screen door. The sunroom is so much nicer now, and safer. Big cracks were pulling the walls apart, all that was fixed. James built a new fence which had to come down underneath the deck. The craftsmanship and quickness with which he did this was astounding. He also built a gate by himself in a style which is exactly my taste and looks so wonderful with my house. I was amazed how beautifully he made this gate, and was so nice to have around.he had wonderful and clever ideas, obviously a very experienced carpenter. First of all, I’d like to say, it makes such a change to work with construction guys who were all really nice family guys. We felt safe, respected, and so happy with them being around. I was happy leaving my daughter with them working around, going inside and outside the house. If I gave them tea or cookies, the plates were always brought back nicely at the end of the day, not left outside for me to find dirty that evening. They cleaned up, never left things in a horrid mess. I felt they respected our lives and had to do the work, but as cleanly and quietly as possible. There was no glaring music, no swearing, more like nice conversations going on out there. Another surprise was the estimate that Sam gave me was about $5,000 more than I paid in the end. He also gave me time over the holidays to pay which really helped me as the insurance would not cover it. Every person who came to the house in connection with Horizon was so nice and such a good worker, I cannot express enough how lucky I feel that we were to get Sam. He looked at my house too and showed me where I should consider having work done in the future. i will definitely have Horizon Contractors do the work.

We love the beautiful custom home Horizon built for us in Oak Bay BC. Looking back now after living here for almost three years, I'm still surprised by the awe our guests express when they come to visit. That and the many awards the home has won is testament to Horizon's execution and follow through, as it was a large, ambitious project with many building challenges to overcome. Tim Agar, our home's project manager, was (and continues to be) the difference maker. He shepherded us through some tricky design issues, as well as several challenges during the building phase. His skill at managing those challenges, as well as the many voices involved, was terrific. To someone considering building a custom home, I would say, just go talk to Tim!
