D.Best Construction, Inc.

D. Best Construction renovated our 1825 Whaling Captain's home that was completely gutted and rebuilt following a water pipe break. Work included layout changes, partial foundation replacement, framing and structural repairs and reinforcement, custom millwork replicating historic trim and moldings, replacement of exterior siding and windows, new kitchen and bathrooms, and all interior and exterior painting. D. Best Construction was wonderful to work with. Knowledgeable, highly skilled, professional, resourceful, top quality craftmanship on everything aspect of their work, trustworthy, great communicators and problem solvers. A great team that I’d highly recommend!

Supervisor Eric Adams and D. Best Construction (Painting) were recommended to us by a trusted friend, and they far exceeded our expectations. The finished work was superb. As importantly, it was a joy to work with an entire team of kind, talented, caring people who take immense pride in their work. From the office manager and supervisors, to each painter and carpenter -- every person we encountered was concerned about our project satisfaction. Despite several unexpected complications, the team worked tirelessly to make sure our home was ready for summer. All communication was prompt and detailed so that we could make timely, informed decisions. There were no complaints and no cut corners, just excellent results. With confidence and gratitude, I recommend D. Best Construction.

I have been a part of a number of their projects. It's pretty rare to see their level of craftsmanship, professionalism and competence. From the owner Doug, to the office,to the foreman, to the general technicians they are clean, competent, accommodating, knowledgeable and fun. They are the cream of the crop on Martha's Vineyard and the houses they create are amazing.

Doug Best and his team are great people and great to work with. They provide professional, quality work. I have found them very helpful with any questions and really expert in coordinating all of the "moving parts" involved in a large or small project. I would highly recommend them.

Having been in the building products industry for over 30 years, and have worked with hundreds of builders over the years, I have found none better than Doug Best and his crew. While they have been a pleasure to work with, their level of detail and professionalism is unmatched.

Doug and his team built an amazing house for our family. The entire process was professional and transparent. We have continued to use D. Best for our business office and several smaller follow-on projects at our home. I recommend Doug completely.

Could not be happier with the work, the bookkeeping, the communication, the problem-solving - everything. Very happy we chose D. Best to handle our project, it's been a great experience all around.

We recently hired this incredible painting team for a project at Vineyard House, and we couldn't be more impressed. Their quality of work is exceptional. The crew was professional, efficient, and worked seamlessly despite the challenges of navigating a space with numerous residents. Managing such a project in a busy environment can be tricky, but they stayed on track and delivered fantastic results. If you're looking for reliable, skilled painters, this team is top-notch!

D.Best Construction lives up to its name. Doug and his team are awesome -- super responsive, knowledgable and hard working. They made every decision easy and seemed to effortlessly pivot when we made design changes. The house is beautiful and so well-built. We intended for this to be our vacation house and we loved it so much that we moved in full-time.

I am currently working with Doug and his team on a new home build. This is my second project with them and they continue to be true professionals. Knowledgeable, skilled, easy to communicate with and well connected in the building industry.

We are just beginning our project with Doug Best and his team. He has done a number of projects with friends and they have bern very pleased with their work. We are still in the design portion and are pleased with the work of Ryan and Josh so far.

Doug and his team - led by rockstars Johnny Prata on the inside and Eric Adams on the exterior - brought our 1874 home into the 21st century with style and deep respect for its history. We could not be happier with the workmanship, professionalism, transparency and integrity of Doug, Johnny, Eric, Lisa and the entire D. Best team!!

I have been working with D.Best for the past 4 years. Great people work here and all the construction projects run smooth and organized! Always please working with Doug and his team!

D. Best does great work and stands behind it as well. In 2021, we did a massive interior and structural renovation. The work was done with the highest quality and eye for detail. Our Project Managers, Ryan and Johnny not only kept us up-to-date on progress, they made some incredibly helpful suggestions that not only saved us headaches and $$$ but also greatly enhanced the look and feel of our home. One of the things that separates them as well is how much they stand behind their work. If there is a problem, they are there fast to fix it. That alone is enough to warrant hiring them. We are already planning for our next project with them. John & Deb

Doug Best’s team is the gold standard for renovation. The minute they walked into our living room and began to roll out tarps and tools needed to protect floors and the rest of the house from the dust and debris of construction, I need we were in good hands. But they are not only careful in their work, they are master craftsmen and artists. And they communicated well with us and with each other, so that the end result was a book-lined library with elegant fireplace that looked as if it had always been there. We are thrilled with the result. And they are really nice people. So, if you are looking for maximum talent with minimum hassle, go with these guys. They are indeed the best, and not just because of Doug’s last name. We plan to use them on an and every renovation project in future.

We have used D. Best construction on two major projects in our house-: an upgrade in two bathrooms (plus the addition of splits , new stair railings and ceiling fans) was the first project and the second project , done last winter, was an upgrade/new kitchen. We were so happy with all their work. They were excellent at every part of the job. They came in on budget and they finished the work on time. They are excellent carpenters and work with great plumbers and electricians. They are very easy to work with and very responsive to any questions we had. We would use them again.

Great Work and great team all in all from Doug, Davidson and Johnny. I do really appreciate the responsiveness and and the communication. Great attention to details.

We have been planning a special "home makeover" for two decades. We knew that D. Best Construction had tackled some large commercial projects on Marthas Vineyard (St. Andrews Church and the Sweetlife Restaurant) but we were not aware that they handled residential projects like ours.

D.Best construction did an excellent job completing my Kitchen, bathroom and living room on time and within budget! The D.Best group started with a project scope statement that outlined the key deliverables of the plan project. The key project milestones allowed the team to track the progress of my projects from start to finish. We will definitely be working with D.Best construction on future projects.

Doug and his team have been professional, hardworking and knowledgeable as we advance my commercial development project in the Edgartown B1 district. Many thanks to them for all their efforts.

Doug and crew are just the best to work with! They handled a multi-faceted project while we were not on island and during a very difficult time with Covid. Everyone involved was respectful of our home and our timeline. They are extremely knowledgable at their individual crafts and pay attention to the details which to me is most important. Plus, all the guys are as nice as can be! We were so happy with the crew and their work that they are currently doing another large project right now. We highly recommend D. Best!

Best Construction is the Best! The project Manager, Ryan has made some wonderful suggestions we did not think of! Lisa in the office is very detailed and sends an email of expenditures and a hard copy. Doug Best has a great team and has been very attentive to details and suggestions for improvements. We have been working with Doug and Ryan since November. Could not be happier with the ideas they suggest, quality of the work they do, responsiveness and availability to all my questions and concerns.

Doug (the "D" in D.Best) generously offered his company's assistance in the renovation of a 15 room Bed and Breakfast into 15 units of shared affordable housing here on Martha's Vineyard. Working tirelessly (and at a highly discounted rate) to meet both tight timelines and tight cost constraints, he and his crew transformed donated kitchen materials and oddly shaped spaces into truly beautiful and finely crafted common spaces to be shared by the residents there. But more than that, the company showed it's full commitment to community needs and values, and that, to us, is the kind of people we ALWAYS want to work with!

I have worked with Doug Best and his team on several projects in the past few years and will continue to recommend them to my future clients. Their team of skilled craftsmen are organized, patient and take great pride in their work - which all contribute towards the great success of a project.

D Best Constiction has done work on my house a number of times over the last 12 years. His work is excellent. He adheres to schedule and complies with all specifications. I am pleased with the work they have done for me.

Doug Best and his crew are very professional. It was a pleasure working with them. We are so happy with our completely updated home. It came out beautiful!

I have been working in conjunction with D.Best Construction as a private contactor for 10+yrs. My small company, Vineyard Vistas Construction, has had the pleasure to provide D.Best Construction various degrees of general home construction on many projects ranging from small home repairs to complete renovation of existing homes. Over the course of all the projects I have had the opportunity to provide my services with, I have always found the professionalism of the D.Best team to be second to none. As with every project, no matter how big or small, the success of the project starts and ends with client expectations, communication, and the attention to detail. As I tend to focus on the "end result", and my attention to detail frequently requires me to consult with the D.Best team of supervisors, I have always found the chain of communication to be expedient, thereby resulting in a successful and rewarding project completion for both myself and the client. I honestly can not say that about any other construction firm I have worked with in all my years as a home builder on Martha's Vineyard. In my 25+yrs working in the home construction business on Martha's Vineyard I have worked with many home building firms and have always found D.Best Construction able to meet or exceed the clients expectations. Lee Bruni Of Vineyard Vistas Construction

We contracted with them for two jobs. We were extremely pleased with the quality of workmanship, cost effectivenesss, and management of the jobs. They are respectful and sensitive to schedule changes because of our unexpected schedule of events: Holidays, weather, family crises. They follow up with suggestions and communicate regularly. Everyone knows what the job is and his/her role. No surprises in billing. They are our "go to" people for renovation and construction. We will use them again and refer to friends.

We were the architects for a whole-house remodel and addition in Edgartown, and Doug was the general contractor. The work included lifting a 100 year-old fisherman's cottage in place and installing a new full basement, gutting and restoring the cottage and adding a two-story addition. Doug and his crew worked through one of the snowiest winters in the Island's history to keep the project on schedule. We were very impressed by his thorough knowledge of local building traditions, his attention to detail and the quality of the work. Doug's approach was truly collaborative and he had always had the owner's best interests in mind. We'd relish the opportunity to work with Doug again!

I worked with D. Best Construction on a project in 2017. He was very professional and easy to work with. The most valuable asset when working with contractors is a quick response and I give him an A+ in communication.

As a tiling contractor, I've worked with a lot of builders on Martha's Vineyard. I've witnessed Doug Best grow his company and for good reason…he consistently does what he says he's going to do and has a knack for getting things done and done correctly, with kindness, humor and consideration. Kudos, Doug and Co!

Good quality work and professional service for a major renovation of an existing home. The work included new walls, kitchen, two new baths and two renovated baths and a new stone fire place.

up-dated two bathrooms. End result was exactly what I had hoped for. The crew were super nice and arrived when they said they would. Clean up was good. There were a few delays and next time I would ask for a more specific end date. I will definitely use this company again!

D. Best construction has been very helpful to us on several occasions. From simple to complex Doug and his crew have the experience and know how to get the job done on time and on budget.

Performed a major reconstruction of an older cottage. Contractor was professional, easy to work with, good communicator, and did high quality work. Project took longer than expected and costs were higher than anticipated at start of job, for various reasons. Overall, a good experience and I would recommend this contractor to others.

We hired D. Best Construction to renovate our 200+ year old house in Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard. The project included new windows, doors, whole house insulation, new bathrooms, kitchen cabinetry and much more...all to be undertaken while we were living in the house. The crew couldn't have been more professional, able, respectful and courteous. Would hire them again without hesitation.

We hired Doug to repair the ornate front porch on an 1871 campground cottage that had been expanded into a 2500 sq ft house. This project ended up as a 1plus Year complete gut and rebuild/restoration project. Doug, his foremen, his crew and his subs were imaginative, clever, enjoyable to work with, and superb crafts people. Dougs active involvement in the community and his positive relations with the various agencies regulating building activities on the island made the project go more smoothly. The outcome speaks for itself as it has been featured in various publications since being completed. We recommend him and his team without hesitation for jobs both huge and small.
