James John Flynn’s knowledge and professionalism helped us in so many ways during the construction and decorating of our new townhome. He pointed out many design options that incorporated his ideas and expertise that allowed us to make our new townhome a true showplace. James even pointed out contractor mistakes which allowed us to remediate these items at that time. His knowledge is extensive. My husband and I previously owned a traditional home. Our new townhome is modern, and James helped us transition with wonderful ideas. He even accompanied us to various vendors to make selections. We are so glad we enlisted James John Flynn’s assistance with our project. I don’t know how we would have made it without him!

We worked with Jim on a renovation of our townhouse in Chicago. We have always enjoyed our home and thought it was fairly well-designed and decorated, but Jim completely transformed our home into a place we really love. One of the main projects was a gut renovation of our master bath, which was a tricky space because it was small and tight with no natural light. Jim redesigned it into an airy and spa-like oasis (which we thought to be impossible), removing unnecessary walls, changing the lighting, floors, tiling and all fixtures and installing a gorgeous custom closet. The finished space feels much larger and has great flow, even though the overall footprint of the bathroom is unchanged. Jim also redesigned our dining room, kitchen and living room areas. The layout of our townhouse is such that the three areas form a single, more or less open space that comprises our entire first floor. We had always found this layout a bit challenging and struggled to tie the three rooms together in a cohesive manner while still maintaining them as distinct spaces with separate functions. Jim was definitely up for the challenge, and with his vision our first floor finally has the flow and cohesiveness that we always felt was missing. Jim picked out select furniture pieces, light fixtures, paint colors, window treatments and wallcoverings and reconfigured our furniture layout to make everything come together. Particularly noteworthy is the three-sided fireplace in the living room, which he wrapped floor to ceiling with gorgeous tile cut in huge pieces, giving the fireplace the appearance of being carved out of a column of stacked stone -- the result is clean and modern and has amazing visual impact. Like our master bath, our first floor now lives much more spaciously than it did before with no change to the overall footprint of the space. Jim has excellent taste and great ideas. He would often suggest an idea that had never occurred to us before, but upon further thought seemed intuitive and clearly worth pursuing. He has an eye for unique and interesting pieces, unexpected color combinations and tricky/not ideal spaces. There is absolutely nothing generic or cookie-cutter about his designs, which feel custom and unique to your space but always elegant and refined. At the same time, Jim is extremely practical. Although we are very attached to our home and put a lot of value on design and decor, we also know that this townhouse is not our "forever home" and plan to eventually rent it to another family. Therefore, while we wanted a beautiful and high-end renovation that addressed our current needs for our home, we also wanted our projects to make sense and be good investments in light of our future plans for the house. Jim kept this in mind from the very start and his ideas consistently struck a balance between the two goals. He was able to find solutions for many of the challenges in our home that were cost-effective without compromising on design and quality. For example, when picking out furniture pieces, he was very cognizant of how we could use the pieces in our next home. He often found ways to use or repurpose existing pieces so that they worked in a new way in the space. In one instance, he used extra wallcovering from one room in another room, changing the look of that space dramatically without significant cost to us. He thought about how future renters might use a space differently, how they might value certain extra features in the master bath or additional storage on the first floor and how our wallcoverings would wear with time assuming small children and dogs running amok. Given our situation, we viewed this as quite a gift. Based on our experience, Jim is an ideal interior designer. He listens and designs to address your needs while also adding the taste and creative value that transforms a space into something truly special. He is highly organized, efficient and responsive and knows the ins and outs of the industry, and we trusted his guidance and expertise completely over the course of our project. We recommend Jim without reservation and look forward to working with him on our next home.

James John Flynn is a top notch professional in every sense of the word. Jim has overseen two different projects in two different condos I have owned and I have been 100% satisfied w/ everything about both projects. He completely transformed both of my living spaces, including bathrooms, kitchens, and all living areas. He is an expert at recommending appropriate lighting, wall-coverings, paint colors, plumbing fixtures, tiles, and more. We hired Jim to remodel a 1950s ranch situated on a large piece of property in the country. He converted the attached garage into a gorgeous family room and turned the existing great room into a beautifully designed dining area that seats 12. His color sense and choice of furniture turned our home into a gorgeous country retreat. Jim was always cognizant of our budget and worked within that. He is extremely professional and the quality of his work is exceptional. I would highly recommend Jim for any project, big or small.

Jim Flynn is an amazing interior design decorator with wonderful ideas. I was at a loss for lighting, drapes, living room furniture and furniture placement in my new home. Jim listened to what my style is, my budget, and never rushed me to make a final decision. He personally met me at the Merchandise Mart to make sure the pieces we were deciding on were exactly what I wanted. I absolutely love the way my home looks and couldn't be happier!

I had the privilege of working with Jim Flynn to design a totally new living experience. I moved from my 5 bedroom traditional home of 28 years to a 2 bedroom condo in a modern high rise. Through each step, Jim was thoughtful and compassionate as decisions were made about what to take from my home and how to create a space that blended both traditional and modern in an elegant, yet comfortable, new space. Jim is amazingly creative; introducing me to designs I never would have envisioned. At the same time, he made sure that everything we did reflected my personality and style. The result is spectacular.

I am a Realtor who listed a property in Northwest IN, in a beachfront community. It was a second home for the sellers, and to get close to the price it was listed for, it was imperative that it be stage, from one end to the other. Jim Flynn came with me to discuss the project with the sellers. He worked unbelievably on this for weeks, it became a polished apple, and was sold within the first 30 days. I can not say enough about this experience. worth every penny.

Jim has designed two places for me - a vacation home in the Dunes near Chicago and a condo in San Diego Uptown area. Also, Jim staged a condo for sale in downtown Chicago. The Vacation Home - Jim's designs, both inside and outside, totally brought the home together and changed it from ordinary to extraordinary - utilizing unique paint/design and fixtures throughout and beautiful furnishings, the home is now a true showpiece. His concepts for redesigning the .75 acre yard included a rose garden, a wildflower garden and various indigenous grass - maintaining the "Dunes Feel" while making the outdoor space elegant and relaxing. The San Diego Condo - I wanted a "Mexican" theme and that is what Jim gave me - complete with beautiful hand-painted tiles to augment the dark wood crown molding. Here again, Jim experimented with incredible paint colors and designs - including a beautiful deep red wine-colored ceiling outlined with a gun metal grey border. He took an ordinary hallway and turned it into my "gallery" wall with deep rich blue paint and special lighting for my Mexican artwork. His antique chandelier selection over the formal dining table is a regular subject of discussion. In the bedrooms he added new linens, pillows, drapes and rugs. He also rearranged all my artwork in unique ways that make it pop. Staging the Chicago Condo - The paint colors and high end paint designs and furnishing style was perfect for selling my urban, cosmopolitan highrise just off Lake Michigan across from Millennium Park. He took the time to painstakingly go through the entire unit with attention to detail making everything look clean, new and inviting. His staging helped me sell the condo quickly and for a good price. Jim listens and helped me achieve the feeling I wanted in each place - all three being very different. He is mindful of the budget and works to achieve it and even beat it! He does what he says and does it on time. He's a very talented design professional and I recommend him highly to all my friends.
