We were incredibly fortunate to collaborate with Jared Frank of Topsy Design on a major interior/ exterior design project. Jared, a designer par excellence, transformed an old Mid Century Modern house in Los Angeles into a true delight and brought back its full potential to accomodate the homeowners' lifestyle. He is a true visionary and his work is extremely tasteful. Every inch and every detail was taken care of thoroughly and in the best way possible. His taste for color, space and style can easily turn your space into a true timeless design. We were hired and brought aboard to design the landscape and were involved in all aspects of developing the outdoor spaces, collaborating closely to reach the desired outcome. Jared was super communicative and fun to work with on all levels. His skills and knowledge allow him to suit his work to his clients perfectly. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate professionally with Topsy Design and look forward to working together again in the future. Jared is not only an extraordinary interior designer but also an exceptional collaborator and teacher. He worked with me to craft an atmosphere that was an elevated version of exactly what I wanted - and what I didn't know I wanted. He also had the patience to teach me the difference in quality between price points and worked within my budget to achieve the highest quality. In fact, he was more concerned than I was about slowing down and taking time to make the correct budgetary decisions. He not only brings his taste to the table but also his wealth of historical knowledge. He can glance at a space or a piece of furniture and tell you what decade/designer/architect it's from. Outside of my own project, I've seen him thrive everywhere from commercial space to a simple apartment - each unique to the client's taste. If you want to do things right, go with Topsy Design.

I can say without a moment's hesitation that Jared saved our house. We bought a 1950s house that was in a moderate state of disrepair and we had absolutely no idea what to do. Jared worked with us to make it functional for us while staying true to the original vibes of the property. He has a great eye, he found us perfect light fixtures and signature furniture pieces. He's good at dealing with vendors and contractors and his relationships in those areas made us feel taken care of through what can be a confusing process. We have a beautiful home thanks to his tireless work and exceptional skills.

Jared renovated and decorated my midcentury studio, posted here as Verbena Dr, and in He turned a 750 square foot one-bedroom into a real home, complete with an eat-in breakfast nook and a living room fit for entertaining. He found great solutions to the small space's issues, moving a wall so that an unnecessary closet became a built in sofa and wrapping bench seating around an awkward to fit a traditional dining table. And once he'd made the layout changes he came in and added furniture and decor to give it a one of a kind look based on what I like and respond to. Instead he managed to express my taste throughout, but in a surprising and stylish way. I look forward to working with him again.

Working as contractors with Jared at Topsy Design was a joy. He had a clear vision of what he wanted and could articulate it well. He also listened to and appreciated our expertise in our craft. The expectations and timeline were realistic and well-handled. I would happily work with Jared again.

We hired Jared to help out with a new apartment we moved into and renovated, He was wonderful, knowledgable and with great taste and aesthetic, he provided all the vintage wall sconces, window shades, knobs and pulls for cabinets, dining table and chairs, bed and nightstands, rugs, and consulted on surfaces for bed and bath. Jared helped make the place look special and unique with those details. I highly recommend.

The Hartford, CT apartment designed by Jared Frank of Topsy Design is not our primary residence. But for me and my husband of nearly forty years, opening the door here feels like being home. We bought this apartment because of the building’s proximity to my work, as well as cultural institutions, entertainment, and restaurants in this small and increasingly vibrant city. After selecting the building, designed by I.M. Pei, we considered at least twenty apartments. We chose this one for its magical view of the State House and Bushnell Park at exactly the right height above the trees but not too distant. But we could not imagine how the dark, cramped one bedroom—with its Spanish colonial archways, unnecessary wall divisions, unpractical kitchen, and tiled and carpeted floors could ever suit our needs. Those needs were personal—a romantic space for a couple in the frankly liberating “empty nester” stage of marriage—as well as professional—a place to entertain not only friends but also potential supporters and donors for a major non-profit cultural institution. Flexibility was critical to the design mission. So was creating a comfortable and an alluring mix of visual enticements of furniture, artworks, and vistas that would surprise and make us—and those who joined us here—want to linger. Jared immediately saw what we could not see: how to open the space to fabulous views of the park and the city, how to provide places to both work and play, how to balance intimacy with entertainment within 800 square feet. The elegant dark wood flooring, the window seats covered with vintage fabrics and woodwork that disguised utilitarian radiators, the open floor plan with a kitchen that encourages my joy of cooking and makes entertaining for two or twenty easy, the stunning glazed cabinets that showcase cherished George Sakier Fosteria glassware and tableware that descended in the family, the syncopated black-and-white tilework in the backsplash, the way that rectangular rhythm carried over to the black-and-white semicircular shaped on the floor of the balcony; the surprising yet relaxing play of colors—for example, the watermelon colored wall that greets you when you enter repeats in decorative touches in antique, contemporary and vintage objects, furniture and textiles. And every piece of mostly but not exclusively mid-century furniture was selected to be both visually compelling and physically comfortable for two people of very different sizes. While the shapes and the colors echo throughout the small space, the mood in the bedroom is serene, the softest green-blue watery space. No distractions from electronics, monastic, yet tender. Throughout Jared brings nature inside through his choice of colors, light, plants, furniture and objects quintessentially modern yet never hard in their lines. Major designers from the 1920s through 1970s are represented, including lesser-known female innovators like furniture designer Bertha Schaefer—but so are folk art and outsider artists, unfamiliar or unknown makers and artists. A realist and a dreamer, Jared expresses his disciplined eye most uniquely through his attention to lighting—from Austrian mid-century bubble-glass to Noguchi lamps to sconces and candles that set every mood his clients’ might imagine.

Working with Topsy was a dream! Their creative eye for detail is unparalleled and they made the process an exciting adventure. Everyday I looked forward to the new treasures they would uncover from different parts of the world. They found a way to add unique whimsy to my home all while staying true to it's historical roots.
