Conterra Workshop

I have worked with Conterra Workshop on a number of occasions. John is a top notch architect with well thought out designs and a passion for his projects. His knowledge of the science behind building and materials is impressive. I would highly recommend Conterra Workshop for both new construction and remodel design work.

John worked with us to develop plans for a significant renovation of our home. He was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was passionate about his work and timely in his delivery of materials. I would definitely work with him again.

This is a combined review by Pam and Dennis Conrad. We have known John for 7 years and worked with him in several different capacities both as a homeowner (client) and a fellow professional (custom woodworker). In both arenas we have found John to be enthusiastic, versatile, knowledgable and creative. His approach is unique in the sense that he is willing to provide all levels of architectural consultation from simple idea discussion to project completion. In a homeowner capacity John has helped us with ideas and verbal discussion to keep us on track with ongoing plans for our house. As a fellow professional John referred a client to Dennis and Skol Studio and Design in Ouray for the production of Telluride Mountain Village event signs. He provided detailed drawings, budget projections and supervision through installation. This process was completed on time, on budget and to everyone's satisfaction. We have also observed his larger ongoing projects in the area closely and from our perspective John is one of the young, up and coming, idea laden architects in Southwest Colorado.

I hired John to design a 500 sq ft. living room and bedroom addition to my home. I am a general contractor and have worked with numerous architects and designers, and found John's work to be superb! His communication was excellent, his drafting top notch, and his design blended with our existing home seamlessly. I would give Conterra Workshop my highest recommendation.

Although we specifically selected Conterra based upon meeting with 3 architects and conversations with John, the outcome exceeded our expectations, due to the detail and interaction during the process. John showed a tremendous ability to engage, listen to us and involve our feelings, ideas, dreams and thoughts in the final design. What resulted was a very positive blend of our budgetary constraints, lighting, the site's natural aspect, our concepts, John's design and the visual use of materials. We will live in this home for a very long time and we're very happy with the results. This was a collaborative and iterative process. Only when our dreams were clearly out of the budget did John pull us back to reality! On all else, he listened and incorporated all our ideas. Great job, with which we're very happy!

Design of exterior renovation of main house and detached garage. A desire for a low if not maintenance free finished product using a combination of wood, stucco and metal was requested. Using ideas from our first meeting John was nearly spot on with the initial plans, only minimal revisions were necessary. He communicated well with our general contractor which was a huge plus.

We worked with Conterra Workshop to design a small second home in western Colorado. We chose Conterra because we appreciated architect John Baskfield's collaborative approach to the design process. John is very mindful of place and function, as well as aesthetics. Beginning with a "running conversation" approach, John employed his creativity, experience, and expertise to guide us to our final design. We know the home we designed with John will meet our physical and functional needs, and equally important, will reflect our personal aesthetic and our unique understanding of what a home should be.

I am a structural engineer and have worked with John and Conterra workshop on several residential projects. John pours himself into his architectural designs and works hard to develop a product that meets the design criteria of his clients. As an engineer I appreciate that he has a very good practical sense of what can and cannot be built without undue burden or cost. I enjoy very much working with John through the design process and look forward to the next great collaboration.
