John R. Schroeder, AIA

The best decision we made was hiring John R. Schroeder, AIA for our breezeway/garage addition. We cannot say enough great things about this outstanding team! John, Jared and Dan were extremely easy to work with. They are incredibly professional, talented and meticulous. We appreciated their exceptional communication, responsiveness, attention to detail and helpful suggestions. They exceeded our expectations throughout the entire planning and building process. We are beyond thrilled with how our entire project turned out. We highly recommend this firm. It was an absolute pleasure working with them!

John, Jared and Dan designed a house addition for us. It turned out great and we are very happy with the results. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

We had the pleasure of working with John, Jared and Daniel on a kitchen renovation, removing a load-bearing wall, relocating the refrigerator and pantry and building a nine foot kitchen island of our dreams. John and his team did a beautiful job not only complementing, but enhancing, the existing style of our house (a Dutch Colonial) as well as our personal aesthetic. They provided an incredible level of detail in their plans and specifications, giving our builder exactly what he needed to get the job done smoothly. We look forward to hopefully working with the team again one day!

There aren’t enough ‘stars’ here to adequately rate John and team. Super satisfied. Fantastic results. Extraordinary attention to detail. Easy to work with. Present and available from start to finish. Meticulously planned, superbly executed, flawlessly completed. I’m lacking enough positive words here. I’ve never built a brand new house before, and the whole thing is definitely not my jam so to speak, but there is no team on earth I would have preferred to work with. My incredible gratitude to John, Jared, and Dan. Thank you for creating my lovely new home!! My best regards always, HHC.

We could not be more pleased with the results of the work performed by John R. Schroeder, AIA on a major addition to our saltbox. From our first meeting with the Schroeder team through completion of the project by the contractor, Schroeder provided excellent advice on every aspect of the project, was on top of every detail, worked extremely well with the contractor, and met every deadline. Thank you, John, Jared and Daniel!

I interviewed three local Architects and I am SO GLAD I chose John Schroeder and his team. They did a phenomenal job! I've lived in my home for 30 years and my wish list for this renovation project was long. We added 600 square feet, creating a new en suite primary bedroom, dressing room and laundry room, all on one level, enabling me to age-in-place in my 1936 Craftsman style home. We also added a beautiful patio and a gunite pool greatly increasing the outdoor living spaces. John and his team were attentive to detail, thoughtful, and communicative, always balancing creativity with economics. Their ideas preserved the unique character of the house while bringing it into the 21st century. I could not be more pleased with the result!

I contacted John R. Schroeder, AIA and associates for the renovation of a foyer, as well as design and construction of a front porch. During the design phase I was amazed by their creative vision and attention to detail. The building project was extremely well synchronized and accomplished ahead of schedule. I highly recommend this five-star architectural firm and exceptional team.

John, Jared and Daniel were very easy to work with. They listened to our ideas, discussed the pros and cons, and consulted with us to achieve a beautiful result. Our home is now functional and comfortable. We thank them for their expertise and great design plan. D&B

We did a home renovation project in the fall of 2023 which included reconfiguring our living space. We are so grateful we chose John & his team. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend them !

We can't speak more highly of John and Jared's expert design and follow through on our renovation. We started the project before the pandemic with John listening carefully to our wish list. Despite the stress and strain of finding a contractor and getting materials during those first two years, we now live in a home that is aesthetically pleasing and smoothly functioning. For a 1750s barn that was last renovated in the 1950s--where there were no straight lines and many historic, hand-hewn beams to preserve--this was no mean feat. John's taste and design sense shine through in the palette of colors, the materials, and the selections of everything from light fixtures to HVAC registers. Jared's attention to detail and execution of drawing specs saved us from many of the contractor's impulsive decisions. They were patient and calm throughout the process, and always had our back when dealing with problems that inevitably arose. We wish we had had a different contractor who was less distracted and uncommunicative/more timely with deadlines, but would work with John and Jared and interior designer Lisa Schroeder again in a second. They are just a wonderfully talented team. Follow up July 2025: it’s been two years since we moved back in and a day doesn’t go by that we aren’t grateful to John and Jared and his team for making our house a beautiful home. It all works and looks so classy! What a great stroke of luck that we found them.

John, Jared, and Dan were vital partners in our near-full renovation of our home. The scope of the project was the entire back of our house, ducting for HVAC, new kitchen, dormer roof expansion, and addition above the garage. Throughout the project, the scope did expand a couple of times and John & co. were well prepared to work with us. Their designs were incredibly thoughtful, practical, and stylish. They took our personal style into account in every fixture and decision. Beyond the stellar design, they were excellent partners in communication with the GC throughout the renovation, and did multiple walk-throughs throughout. They helped trouble-shoot issues that came up during the project, and were very good at sending reminders to the GC to keep things moving during a VERY busy construction season. Now that we've been in for several months, we find ourselves reflecting on the home design aspects with great admiration to John, Jared, and Dan's skills and care in this project.

John and Jared took our burned down house and created a new home in which we want to spend the next few decades. We came to them with only a few concept words and thoughts, and they created a cohesive vision that left no detail unaccounted for. Attempting to construct a house mid-COVID was stressful, but they made the process run smoothly, and were always available to field questions and ideas from us as the build progressed. We would not hesitate to recommend them to friends & family seeking to build a new home, add an addition, or renovation.

John and team were fantastic partners for our renovation, from our first initial meeting to the end, which spanned a year. John spent time to get to know us and understanding the needs for the space. We gave him a few general ideas of what we like, John heard that, and designed every aspect of the renovation, from the little to the big things like cabinet hardware, windows, lighting, tile, floor stain, and wall colors. A renovation is stressful as it is, and so knowing that John was listening to us and providing us with a design plan that resulted in a high end, luxury, and uniform beautiful space was so appreciated. We have already recommended him to other family and friends, and would not hesitate to use his firm again on future projects.

John and Jared were excellent partners in our addition project. They heard all our ideas and desires and developed a wonderful plan for our sunroom and patios. Their attention to detail and oversight ensured the project was completed at a high quality standard. We love the space and would certainly work with them again.

We found John Schroeder on Houzz, so he came with great recommendations. He helped us design and set up a garage and a new decking in our garden. The result is just what we wanted, looks good, serves it purpose and most importantly, John and his people did a wonderful job. Not only the design, but all the paperwork, getting a contractor, arranging the necessary surveys. We where away for the while building period and that was not a problem.

It was a pleasure working with John, Jarred, and Walter. We recently remodeled our home with 2 new additions and could not have done it without them. From early on in the design process all the way through managing the construction portion, their expertise made for a smooth and enjoyable process. ALL of their work was extremely detailed and meticulous. The house project was completed ahead of schedule which was an added bonus. We would highly recommend John and his team for anyone’s architectural and design needs. It was a true pleasure working with them!

I was so pleased working with John and Jared. They were extremely professional, thoughtful and so talented with their design . I appreciated their patient approach to making the right choices for this project. We worked together with Oxford Builders to complete an amazing re-design of the basement (lower)) and entire first level living. LOVE the finished project! I would hire them again for any future work.

My business partner and I had the pleasure of working with John and his team on a full renovation: we converted an almost 200 year old building into a production brewery and taproom. They guided us through the entire renovation process, and offered unique and creative solutions to whatever problems we threw at them. John and his team also helped us find a fantastic GC, and we couldn’t be happier with the space that they designed for us.

We were very pleased with John Schroeder's and Jared Hardell's work on our project. Our goal was to turn our summer cottage into a home for year round living. The challenge to John and Jared, in addition to updating mechanicals, was to reconfigure the first floor to allow for a master bed and bath, add a half bath, maintain the iconic stone fire place, keep the beach vibe of a cottage built in 1940 and do it in the same foot print. They delivered. A reconfigured first floor allowed for a great room with the stone fireplace, bedroom and bath, galley kitchen, laundry and a half bath. Their design skills were evident in the integration of the original 1940's 2 panel doors, hardware, bead board, wall sconces and fir floors into a newly designed first floor. The aesthetic of the 1940's cottage was made new. White bead board ceiling, white washed fir floors blend with the gray beach stones in the fireplace. The super functional galley kitchen with great finishes makes the most of a small space. A newly designed covered front porch and a return to exterior cedar shakes have improved on the old, while maintaining a beach cottage vibe. They do great work and we highly recommend them. The daunting task of downsizing from our 3000 sf home of 40 years to a 1050 sf condo was successfully achieved with the help of John Schroeder’s firm. Their ability to focus on spaces we used and needed while at the same creating a layout that accentuated our view of the water has created a new home that feels like 3000 sf with all it's comforts.

John R. Schroeder, AIA gave us our dream kitchen. They worked with us during the design phase of the renovation and they incorporated all of the features we wanted and advised us on new and exciting ideas. They were careful to keep our budget in mind and walked us through each phase of the kitchen renovation. Creative, clever and always practical, we now have a truly functional kitchen that is timeless and beautiful.

We recently completed a major renovation on our home including a 2-story addition and a new kitchen. From the initial schematic design to the management of construction, John (Schroeder) and Jared (Hardell) were fantastic people to work with. The plans and specifications were incredibly detailed, with much care taken to spell out every dimension, type of material, type of product, and even construction technique. They took their time in the planning stages to make sure we were happy with exactly what we were getting, complete with 3D drawings of the finished space. The major value for us was the level of effort they provided during construction. With 2 small kids, we had little time to monitor the project and even if we did, we did not have the experience or background to do it adequately. John and Jared were very responsive to our requests to check on progress or verify if something was being done correctly (as per the specs). John even stopped by unexpectedly on a Saturday morning to ensure the roofer (who showed up on short notice) was putting the right product on the roof. When we went on vacation, John and Jared were over our house checking on the progress of the floor refinishing and had the contractor redo the entire floor because it didn't look good. Aside for some unforseen issues (excavating ledge), the final cost was the initial cost due to the attention to detail of the drawings and ongoing management. We are very happy with how the project went.

John R. Schroeder, AIA helped us create an exciting Master Plan for our home. They are talented, responsive, meticulous and flexible.

We worked with John Schroeder AIA on two phases of remodel of our 1959-vintage beach house. First was a major addition of garage and master bedroom as well as a gut, redesign and installation of a master bath suite, living room and modern kitchen. Second was to finish our basement creating a bedroom, exercise room, and living area/man cave. John took the time to fully understand our requirements and esthetics. He worked within our budget, always trying to get the most out of each dollar we spent. His skill as a designer added so much to the plans he created for us. No detail was too small if it enhanced the quality of the finished product. John stood with us before the town Zoning Board of Appeals, who did not make approval of our variance application easy. His patient, professional manner and persistence in working for us carried the day allowing us to transform our home. John’s knowledge of, and facility with, structural matters was put to the test in removal of a load-bearing wall and reinforcement of several rear-facing walls that were opened up to provide expansive marsh views. John was unfailingly positive, professional and friendly throughout both phases of the remodel, even when one contractor became extremely contentious. Our project moved forward and both budget and schedule were preserved. John’s skill, character, integrity and warm personality was reassuring and his efforts added value to our project from the proposal to the completion of the final punch list item. We would recommend him to anyone without hesitation.

John’s plans were flawless, highly detailed, and allowed each builder to bid without questions. And, equally important, John worked very well with our selected builder to ensure that our new kitchen and addition were exactly what we had intended. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend John or use him again.

John R. Schroeder, AIA, you have given us our dream home and by that I mean a home more beautiful than we could have imagined and yet completely suitable to our hectic everyday lives as a family with four young children. You listened to our random ideas and put them together into a design that is better than the sum of its parts and what's more, it was completed on schedule (I didn't think this ever happened!).
