About Us

In truth, Kim has been involved in design since elementary school - regularly rearranging furniture and accessories in her childhood home. Her very first experience as a lead designer was "playing Barbies", which never involved the Barbies themselves, but did involve fashioning empty cardboard boxes into Barbie houses complete with handmade furniture and accessories. Flash forward to her early twenties when, after receiving her B.A. from Bentley University, she began helping friends and family design their homes. There the seed for her business was planted. Later she enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design's interior design program and Norton-O'Brien Design was officially born. Kim combines a mix of modern and traditional elements layered together to create a customized interior that speaks to her client. She makes the process of design fun, but always with the same goal in mind: to create a space that brings her client peace, pride and pleasure. Her passion for interior design and client satisfaction is evidenced in each and every project and in the awards she's received, including: Best of Houzz winner 2011 (Remodeling), 2012 (Design), 2013 (Customer Service), 2014 (Customer Service) and 2015 (Design, Service). Kim's design work is found in homes throughout New England, as well as in Florida, Arizona, Kentucky, Virginia, Illinois and beyond.

Kim has done wonderful job on a number of projects in our home. She’s currently helping us on a third project, a complete overhaul of our master bath. You can trust Kim to make you feel at ease and comfortable. She has been respectful of our budget. Her 'Design Boards' gave us a clear picture of each project’s final appearance. We found this very helpful as we weighed the various options in front of us. Kim has our strong endorsement.

This was second time I hired Kim to help with decorating. Although it was a smaller job she showed the same enthusiasm and great service as she did on the larger project. Kim has great intuition and really works to understand her client's style and preferences.

Kim Norton-O'Brien is an excellent multi-faceted designer who actually relishes finding good deals for her clients. She redesigned our master bath and had good ideas about making it look as spacious as possible and recommending products that we would like and would be good for resale, as we were thinking of selling down the road. She updated our kitchen with the same goal in mind. After dithering for literally years about what to do with our landing and window seat, Kim had it beautifully functional with practically a snap of her fingers. For our new house, she eyeballed the spaces with us and helped us figure out what would go where before the movers arrived, which was incredibly helpful. She has good resources at her fingertips, and had an excellent man at our house to take care of blinds and shutters, with good advice on where to spend and where to save money on those big-bucks items. Kim is professional, efficient and creative while sticking to a budget. We couldn't ask for more.

Kim of Norton-O'Brien Design is an amazing interior designer. I hired Kim to help us with a living room in our home. She took our vision and transformed it on paper with her design boards and then in the room. We loved what she did so much that we hired her to do interior decorating for our beach home. That too looks amazing. I highly recommend Kim. She is thorough and takes your ideas and budget and creates splendor!

Kim was incredibly, incredibly, incredibly helpful and wonderful to work with. Her designs are gorgeous and have helped us to realize our vision for our spaces. Also, Kim is an excellent project manager. I have been continually amazed and impressed by the extent to which Kim coordinates everything - she makes my life so easy. Kim is a pleasure to work with and I'm so happy that we found her.

Kim is the most amazing interior designer! She has done numerous rooms in my house- my kitchen, bathrooms, kids rooms, family room. Kim is easy to work with and totally knows how to make a space work for your needs. I find her to be professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. I can't say enough good things about her!

Kim is an absolute pleasure to work with. She does an amazing job of recommending designs that capture exactly what we're looking for in terms of aesthetics, function and budget. We've worked with her on several large projects, including the complete renovation of 5 bathrooms, a TV room, a living room and a bedroom. She has also helped us with many other smaller updates (window treatments, light fixtures, etc.) to other areas of our home. Kim is professional, responsive and terrific at keeping the lines of communication open between client, designer and contractor. We look forward to working with her on future projects!

Kim helped me design my living room space and dinning area. In addition she did a full house consultation to help me prioritize my projects and gave me advice on which ones would be worth the money and time. Kim was able to give me a different options to choose from for each piece. This allowed me to create a space that I love and to keep the project on budget. With her knowledge and expertise she saved me a lot of time and money looking for the large anchor pieces I needed for each room. She was a delight to work with and I have recommended her to other friends and I am looking forward to working with her again in the future.

I am delighted with the powder room remodel designed by Kim Norton-O'Brien. Everything about it is beautiful and functional. Kim scoured the internet for good deals, so I feel I received a good value as well. Kim also had excellent suggestions on where to "splurge" versus where to "save" when it came to getting the most impact. Everyone who sees the custom-made fabric-covered cornice board over the window loves it!. I highly recommend this company and will be asking Kim to work on our next design project.
