We would highly recommend Matthew Johnson as an experienced and trustworthy contractor! We remodeled our kitchen and it is AMAZING! We wanted some unique details and worked with him to plan and make them happen. We appreciated that Matthew is clear, organized and does what he promises. We would definitely hire him again for our next project though we do need a break to just enjoy our kitchen space :)

We own an older home and we hired Matthew Johnson to remodel our kitchen, re-wire our home, reconstruct our roof structure, build a laundry closet and fix our foundation. Matt communicated often, clearly and thoroughly, was very practical with his advice and options, and always acted in an ethical, professional manner with our safety and satisfaction in mind. His team was obviously well trained and professional. Their attention to detail was impressive. We passed all permit inspections cleanly. We would definately hire Matt again. We felt very fortunate to have hired him for our very involved job. Having worked with other contractors in the past, we know for a fact we would not have received the fantastic end result we have today.

Browsing houzz.com, I became aware of all the new improvements that occurred through the years to update a home today. Finding kitchen cabinets I admired offered by a company right where I lived was a stroke of luck. I paid a visit and during my interview I received a recommendation for a trusted general contractor. I know this is approaching my home renovation a little backwards but it was certainly serendipity for me. Having over 35 years of experience, MATTHEW W. JOHNSON is competent to answer any and all questions a client will pose. His explanations pro or con are understandable and reasonable. When Matthew and I first met, we talked about my desire to remodel the kitchen and one bathroom downstairs and one bathroom upstairs. He does not pressure the customer to do more or less than necessary, allowing the customer to decide how much work will be done. When I hired MATTHEW W. JOHNSON in the middle of 2020, we were experiencing the beginning of a pandemic. Since city offices were closed, obtaining permits was a delayed process. By the end of 2020 and first of 2021, we were able to begin remodeling the kitchen and two baths which eventually included bringing many procedures done in 1970 up to code for 2021. Even replacements of older windows required passing new codes. Matthew offered a complete list of referred suppliers for all necessary items and materials needed to complete the job. If decisions were difficult, Matthew was always available to help make recommendations. If I made contact with any questions, he would reply immediately. He made visits to the work site often and helped keep piled up trash at a minimum by driving it to the dump as often as needed. As Matthew and his crew finished work on the kitchen, bathroom and main hall downstairs, they moved to work on the bathroom upstairs and it was then I decided to bring the second floor rooms up to code. I was alerted ahead of each stage of work and upcoming appointments with each subcontractor. I have enjoyed having outstanding professional subcontractors including Ron, Pat, Vo, Russ and Dave, who have worked with Matthew for many years, take part in my home renovation. His crew members Mike and Gary have been with him from the very beginning. My neighbors have commented on their work ethic, always respectful and polite. Their work began and ended on time and property was always left neat and clean at the end of each day. Except for the time the hardwood floors were laid, I have been living in the house while work was ongoing and interruptions were kept at a bare minimum. MATTHEW W. JOHNSON has had over 35 years of experience and is celebrating 17 straight years of Diamond Certification independently rated for highest in quality. I’m so happy to say that I finally got my dream kitchen! Hansen and I would like to take a moment to thank you and your crew for transforming our dated kitchen and half bath into a beautiful, updated kitchen that is fully functional and a half bath that looks like a luxury hotel bathroom. Also, the family room looks amazing. Thank you for taking the idea that I had in a picture and making it into a reality. Your attention to the finer details is unmatched. It is my new personal sanctuary! ;-) The custom cabinets in the kitchen and family room are absolutely beautiful. And, the garden window gives us a stunning view from the kitchen. We are so pleased with all the suppliers/vendors you recommended. Mike, William, and Gary did an exceptional job. They were very professional and extremely accommodating. They always arrived on time and ready to tackle the day’s work. They were very conscientious of the fact that I was concerned about the dust getting into our living space. And, very aware of not letting the dog escape. They always kept the job site safe and secure. At the end of each day, they always kept the job site clean and organized. Of course, I can’t forget about the subcontractors. The electricians, plumbers, tile contractors, flooring contractors, painters and sheetmetal contractor were wonderful to work with. They were all very professional and very helpful. I have to give a personal shout out to Russ and Dave. They were so helpful. Russ personally reached out to me to help me with the pendant lights and the TV mount. They were very thoughtful in their work. They made sure that I was involved in every aspect of the kitchen lighting, placement of lights, outlets, etc. Hansen and I have never tackled a project of this magnitude. Without your help and guidance, it would have been very difficult. Even while we were in the midst of the pandemic, you assured me that work would continue. Again, thank you for everything.

My husband and I were very satisfied with the work that Matthew Johnson performed for us. The job, replacing a rotting exterior wall which also supported an interior staircase, was not the most glamorous job in the world and did not result in a fancy new kitchen or bathroom (the interest of most of the contractors we interviewed for the job) but it was critical to the structural integrity of our house. Mr. Johnson was very easy to work with. His communication skills were excellent. We came to rely on his honesty and to trust his expertise as the wall was opened up to assess the damage. His communication with his crew clearly demonstrated a knowledge of the work to be done, outlined reasonable expectations and demonstrated respect for the abilities of the workers themselves. His crew consisted of conscientious, courteous, skilled craftsmen who performed all activities at a highly skilled level. Further, Mr. Johnson was an excellent scheduler. Crew members were on site almost every day resulting in a timely completion despite the scope and complexity of the job. In short, we would not hesitate to call on Mr. Johnson again should we require improvements to our house. We highly recommend him to others who are looking for an honest, professional contractor.

I retained Matthew Johnson as an expert in a complicated three-year construction project involving a wheelchair accessible addition to the home of a disabled Veteran. Matt was invaluable. He has a wealth of knowledge about construction given his extensive experience in the field. His rates were reasonable, and he was able to quickly answer all of my questions. His report was thorough and persuasive. In the end, I was able to secure a very favorable outcome for my clients. Matt was an essential component to my success.

Not only is Matt extremely knowledgable and thorough, but he is a fantastic teacher -- I learned a lot during the process and he was very patient with all my questions. This project's completion came in on time. The onsite workmen kept the jobsite clean and the end result of the project, was as had been discussed and in compliance with the permit and established drawings. Matthew was easy to work with and was readily available by phone or email as needed. We would definitely hire him again.

We were extremely pleased with how our remodel turned out. After interviewing several contractors, Matthew’s responsiveness and detailed follow up to all our questions was so appreciated. Matthew’s years of experience on home remodels, knowledge of code regulations, attention to detail and many contacts in the various trades were all beneficial to our project completing without any problems. We have worked with Matt for each of our bathroom remodels. The first was completed about 8 years ago, and the most recent was in 2017. We found Matt and his employees to be very professional. Always showing up on time when scheduled, and letting us know if they would be late or unable to show that day. Matt and his employees are very friendly and easy to talk to. They answered all our questions and concerns. We were very happy with the quality and result of their work.

Matthew was a pleasure to work with, as were his subcontractors who spent a great deal of time working on our renovation for our home. He was always timely with his responses to my calls, texts and emails and was very good about notifying us when other professionals would be arriving at our house, such as plumbers, electricians, painters, etc. There were a few minor delays (which is to be expected) but he was always great about communicating that to us. He is honest, trustworthy and got the job done according to our original timeline and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to friends/family or use him again.

We hired Matthew to do a remodel of our condo. Matthew's crew were very professional, cleaned up and put away tools every day, and accommodating. Matthew also uses local contractors. The recommendations for the contractors (cabinet, replace tile, and flooring) The majority of them were very professional and completed their tasks on time. Project came in under budget (due to changes in the designs) and completed in a timely fashion. We were quoted 2 weeks and project was completed in 3 weeks (what I was expecting)

Mr. Johnson was quick to respond when asked for a quote on our remodel project which included, an extension, enclosing and constructing a new home entryway, enlarging of kitchen, up grade the electrical service to our home, locating and installing of an 8 foot by 4 foot interior glass. The professional care and guidance reference to requirements to city permits, and inspections was an extra freebie. His crew was always on time, cleaned up before they left, and ensured the least interference with the family. We resided at home during the entire remodel, without discomfort, or loss of privacy. I was extremely pleased with the crews, subcontractors Matthew recommended, and the fact he visited the most days. I am pleased with all aspects of Matthew Johnson's work, courteousy, consideration, and understanding. I am pleased to recommend him and his company for any project, large or small.

Matt's team recently completed several exterior home improvement projects at our home that included roof repairs, gutter replacement, and substantial landscaping and hardscaping work. The work done was professional, thorough, and the results were beyond my expectations. Any issues were very minor and quickly resolved to my satisfaction. They exceeded our vision of what we wanted to accomplish with all of these home improvement projects and most importantly, did so at a cost that was surprisingly affordable. We had several other competing quotes for the same projects that would have far exceeded our allotted budget, prevented us from completing all of our desired projects, and quote provided by MWJ Contractor was still well below those other quotes obtained. We were extremely pleased with the high quality of the work that was done as in many cases the finished product was even better and nicer looking than we had expected and had planned. We continuously receive compliments from neighbors and strangers on how nice the exterior of our house looks as a result of the work the MWJ crew did...it literally looks like a brand new house without investing a fortune. The biggest surprise was the cleanliness of the work crew during each stage of the projects completed....everything was washed down , cleaned up and any debris removed from the job site at the completion of each phase of the projects. Our home's value has definitely increased as a result of these affordable improvements and it's just a joy coming home to such a beautiful home exterior. We highly recommend Matt and the MWJ team for any home improvement project that you want done as you will be very satisfied with the work and especially the high quality results. We will definitely use MWJ Contractor again for any future interior home improvement projects as a result of the phenomenal job done on the exterior of our home.
