MBG Renovation

I learned about MBG Renovation (MBG) through the Des Moines HBA Tour of Remodeled Homes in 2019. Shortly after, I contacted Mike to get a bid for opening up and renovating my closed-off, 1990's oak kitchen. From the start, the crew at MBG was great to work with. Mike is fantastic, he has great energy and is a wonderful communicator. Sarah is fantastic with design, she listens to your ideas and also offers additional, creative design ideas to further enhance the project. Clark is an amazing project manager; he kept the project going (during the start of a pandemic, mind you); he and his crew had the utmost respect for my time and my home. The results are wonderful, the project turned out beautifully AND on budget! I cannot recommend MBG enough and I look forward to working with them on future projects! - Nate

Mike and his team did an awesome job on a complete remodel of the first floor of our house. From the bid process to finalizing the project, they were professional and attentive to detail. We liked working with them so much we are hiring them to update our outside decks next spring.

They worked with my every step of the way. It was a tremendous experience start to finish. They thought about all of the little details, kept everything super clean. Just awesome.

We hired MBG to remodel our master bath and put in roll in shower. They did an excellent job from design to completion. They were very timely and profession. Most importantly they worked around our schedule and came in on budget. I hope to use them again on my next project. ould highly recommend them.

MBG Renovation remodeled my kitchen. They opened up an unused 3 season room, gutted the existing kitchen and turned it into a beautiful large, comfortable and functional space. Mike designed the space, worked with some ideas we had and came up with ones we had not considered that we are so happy with. We work during the day and never worried about Mike and his team being in the house. We always knew where we were at in the process and the project completed in a timely manner. As of the writing of this review we have been in the new kitchen approximately 11 months. Everything is great. Mike and his team are responsive to the little things like I needed a shelf deep enough to hold the KitchenAid. They made an adjustment. The suppliers recommended by Mike for cabinets, granite and appliances were great too. Very happy with my kitchen and MBG Renovation.

We found working with the MBG team to be the best contractor experience we have ever had. They are true professionals who care very much about us as clients and in delivering a quality job. They were patient with us throughout the design process; the bid reflected the final job cost; the job started when promised and followed the original timeline. When we encountered bumps, as is inevitable, everything was worked out to everyone’s satisfaction. The carpenters on site could not have been more patient with us as we asked what must have seemed like endless questions. The job was completed as planned and bid. We now have the bathroom we had always envisioned and could not be happier.

The porch is beautiful and the deck is stunning! We hired MBG Renovation to replace our old pressure-treated lumber porch railings and balusters and wrap the support posts on our front porch; and replace our deck boards, stairs, outside stair stringer, and rails and wrap our deck as well (but had aluminum balusters installed). Once we contacted them, we spent a lot of time (a few months) trying to decide what material to use and Mike was very patient with us and helpful in pricing various products for us before we decided on Yellawood Kiln-Dried lumber. The project took them essentially two days to complete from teardown to rebuild! Very fast. Everything was built on site (no preassembled pieces). Once the back deck boards were removed, we noticed a small section on the house where the builder never put flashing to protect the house when the first deck was installed, and the company that installed our vinyl siding did not place the siding down far enough to cover that either. Skylar fixed that for us by getting flashing put in place. Very much appreciated! Also, they were not happy with the condition of some of the wood that the supplier sent for the railing, so drove to the supplier to get replacement pieces (almost 1 hour each way). We had them rebuild our porch the same as it was, but they did a couple of much appreciated enhancements that made the railings safer. The former rail posts at the top of the stairs were not attached to the porch (only to the railings), so they anchored those to the porch, and anchored the rail posts at the end of the rail coming down the stairs to the concrete stairs. The deck was a bit different because of the metal balusters and the finish of the railings overall. Previously we had a 2X6 rail that sat vertical with the ballusters attached to the outside. Now we have a 2X6 horizontal rail cap that we did not previously have ( that you can place beverages on if you want - could not do with our old one). This style is apparently a standard for what MBG does, and was an unexpected surprise! Also, they had enough deck boards when replacing the step planks, that they closed the open spaces between the steps with the extra! REALLY looks nice! The project started the week estimated and took less time than estimated (2 days instead of 3 1/2). All of the representatives from MBG are very professional and knowledgeable. Clark was our project manager, Skylar the lead of the crew, and Cameron, Charlie, and Tyler. I think there was another that I did not catch the name of. They were all very nice. I asked a lot of questions. I also take pictures (took a lot of them from the teardown through rebuild) and they did not appear to mind - I tried to stay out of their way while taking pictures. The project cost was what was estimated as well. There was communication from the time we contacted MBG to the completion of the project, but I would have liked communication more often, just to let me know the status of everything (like nothing new yet, or still waiting on supplier, still working on it, or whatever), but that's me. So, I took the initiative to send emails to request updates here and there. Even so, it does not alter the fact that I would not hesitate to hire them again! Now we just have to stain everything in the spring. We're testing samples now. Thank you MBG Renovation - we would definitely hire you again!

Mike and his teammates built a pergola for me. I had them back to finish my basement. Then they did renovations in my kitchen, baths, fireplace and front porch. Their professionalism, teamwork and on time and cost completion is Awesome!

Professional, personable and timely. Very good experience and the work is perfect. Mike was somebody I knew, but had never met. He did some work for my neighbors and thought they did a great job.
