We had an excellent experience working with Managed Renovations on a complete kitchen remodel and related improvements to adjoining spaces in our home. From the beginning, Michael and Natalie brought a level of calm, professionalism, and thoughtful communication that made what could have been a stressful process feel manageable. Since this was our first renovation project of any kind, we especially appreciated having a team that helped guide us through the process with patience and clarity, especially when it came to the unknowns and occasional surprises. The quality of the work was excellent and, equally important, we appreciated the attention to detail. Whether it involved cabinetry, lighting, finishes, or small adjustments along the way, the team listened carefully and worked with us to get things right. Nelson, our on-site project manager, was consistently responsive, capable, and helpful throughout the process. What we especially appreciated was that Managed Renovations treated the project as a collaboration. They respected our ideas, offered practical guidance when needed, and never made us feel rushed into decisions. Communication was clear, the subcontractors were skilled and courteous, and our home was treated with care throughout. We are very happy with the results and would gladly work with Managed Renovations again.

Michael Shannon and his team rebuilt and greatly improved our outdoor deck. They preserved the still-usable ipe that had been improperly installed, refinished it, and installed a lovely gazebo. The workers were friendly, professional, and communicative, and Michael let me know about progress at every turn. Natalie Grande was a huge help with the billing, and even coordinated the donation of a wood bench that had been part of the original design. I am looking forward to working with the team again soon.

We had a great experience working with Managed Renovations. Because the project was not a huge renovation, most of the contractors I contacted wouldn't even consider doing the work. Managed Renovations was willing to take on the smallish project and they were willing to manage the additional complexity of dealing with some city permitting issues, which was no easy feat. The Managed Renovations team managed the project on time and on budget and were easy to work with. They brought ideas and suggestions to the project, which was great because my husband and I don't always think through all the options or know what is possible. I would not hesitate to work with them again.

Michael and Natalie renovated our kitchen the summer of 2023. Excellent job all around. Michael’s guidance and expertise in helping to design a kitchen that was truly functional and efficient (large family and we cook ALOT) was a great comfort. Natalie’s eye for design and style to ensure our kitchen flowed seamlessly with the rest of the house and provided a welcome spot for the entire family to gather in ( whether for eating dinner together, doing homework or entertaining) was immensely helpful. The subcontractors and vendors that Managed Renovations used to complete the build out were courteous and tidy and even more important was that Natalie ensured she’d be at the house when they did their work to ensure everything was done correctly. They completed the job on time and on budget - and were just nice to work with. We would highly recommend them for any remodel work you need to have done.

Michael Shannon, Natalie and all of the crew are consumate professionals: considerate, trustworthy, very skilled, kind, highly communicative, timely. helpful, and worth every penny - which was very reasonable too. They redid my small powder room and I trustd them to finish the job while out of town. When I returned it was completed and looked even better than I had imagined. Every detail was skillfully executed, and their suggestions were on point too. I am very pleased with the entire experience and recommed them as an outstanding company with the best reputation. We hired Managed Renovations as a general contractor to do a complete remodel and expansion of our 1300 sq ft home. It was a nine month process. The work entailed demoing a significant portion of our home, excavating and underpinning the foundation of our existing home, expanding our basement, and adding approximately 2000 sq ft of finished space above grade, including a new great room, screened in porch, mudroom, garage, and two bedrooms, and renovating the previously existing rooms of our old house. Michael's team was very easy to work with, and the project management, workmanship, and attention to detail was top notch. We love our new home and would definitely use Managed Renovations again.

In 2020, we bought a lovely 1918 house with a tiny, outdated, “no working space” kitchen. We conferred with several builders and design-and-build companies before finding Michael and Managed Renovations. Together with the architect he recommended, we developed an amazing - and somewhat scary - plan to expand the kitchen by blowing out two adjacent exterior walls while supporting two floors and a roof above. We also decided to add a beautiful screened in porch, gut and redo the basement, redo a failing retaining wall and install a lovely flagstone patio. Michael found the right people, managed the risks beautifully and successfully completed the job. His cadre of 'subs' (they do so much work with him, they are more like an extension of MR) are all absolutely first class. And because of his tight relationships with them, the scheduling of work almost never lagged over the ten months of construction. Natalie, who wonderfully coordinated, drove and tracked the project, is a Managed Renovations superstar, and her interior design background and attention to detail are real value adds. When doing a big renovation in a 100+ year old house, surprises happen. Working with Michael and Natalie always brought us a level of calm and peace that the surprises would be dealt with, that the quality would be first rate, and that there was always an eye towards finding the best value in the solution. Managed Renovations did a wonderful job with our kitchen and office renovation. Michael Shannon is knowledgeable and trustworthy. We liked working with Michael and his team, who took care to stage work to minimize disruption to us while efficiently delivering high quality construction. Managed Renovations deftly handled the complexity of our project, which involved gutting the kitchen and office to add insulation and open up a structural wall with a steel beam, all while we lived in the house. We appreciated the care Michael and Natalie took in working with us on our design to achieve lasting quality that met our needs and desires. They recommended additional work where it would add value and steered us away from unnecessary expenses. All in all, you can have confidence that working with Managed Renovations is a good choice.

Michael and his team completely renovated our kitchen and put new siding on our house. They did a great job, and we are very happy with the end result. They were always easy to reach via phone or text. All of their subcontractors were friendly and knowledgeable. A project like this has the potential to cause a lot of stress, but they made the process as smooth as possible.

I really don’t want to tell anyone about how amazing managed renovations is, because I want them all to myself. In over 30 years and more than a half dozen houses, including major renovations and a complete build, I have never had a contractor I have relied on and believed in more. The company is both reliable and tasteful and fairly priced. They did renovations and new builds for us and their experience added value and avoided costly errors. They are the best of the best.

Managed Renovations (Michael Shannon, owner) did a terrific job, replacing my deck and completely renovating my basement. What I most appreciated is that both he and his subcontractors made numerous suggestions regarding the design and installation that made the end result better than planned. All of Michael's subcontractors were great, doing complete and high quality work. (When I have used other contractors in the past, I found that some subs were great and some were not.) Michael was hands-on during the entire project, making sure that all of the subs understood the plans exactly and discussing how best to achieve them. All work was reviewed in progress so that any course corrections could be reviewed and discussed. Adequate time was provided to select owner-provided fixtures, paint colors, etc. Project additions (both related to the contracted work, and some work in other parts of the house) were priced fairly and completed promptly. There was no problem getting the final punch list items completed.

Managed Renovations (MR) put together an excellent crew to handle the fairly extensive work involved in converting my brick garage into an interior room. It is already attached to the house, so no construction or demolition was necessary, except for removing the garage door and replacing it with a sliding glass patio door, which looks great! MR also arranged to thoroughly insulate the walls, ceiling and floor, before installing drywall on the walls and ceiling, and sub-flooring, while being careful to ensure that the height of the new room is at least 7' in all areas, in keeping with DCRA requirements. A new electrical sub-panel was necessary to support the mini-split which was installed to handle the heating and cooling needs. Very late in the game I decided I wanted a closet with mirrored sliding doors, and this was built in quickly and efficiently - though at an additional cost of course! MR are very organized at producing and explaining numbered 'change orders' for any items which are over and above those listed in the signed Agreement, and this ensures that clients do not have any nasty surprises at the end! To keep the cost down a little, I obtained the Build Permit from DCRA, but MR handled the Electrical and Mechanical Permits, and set up and managed all of the necessary inspections. They use different contractors for each portion of the work, so you always know you have an expert in each area. The contractors are scheduled in the necessary order and MR is good at communicating with the client as to who will be working and when, so that clients are fully aware of the schedule, as well as any delays or issues. I would certainly consider using them again on another project.

Michael and team did a superb renovation job. The work was completed under tight timelines and Michael is an expert in setting clear and realistic expectations and delivering on them. All the team were highly responsive. We feel that we got what we wanted whereas with most contractors you barely get what you pay for. The quality of the work was consistently high. An added bonus is that they were polite, respectful and enjoyable to work with.

Michael Shannon’s Managed Renovations team recently completed a portico addition for the front of our home. The portico (5’ x 7’) completely transforms our entryway in both appearance and functionality. The portico features a Pennsylvania fieldstone stoop, Versatex low maintenance columns, pilasters, and trim work, a Buckingham slate roof to match the home’s existing slate (circa 1941), copper gutters, as well as a new lantern and modern floating house numbers. Michael was easy to work with and very responsive. He coordinated masons, carpenters, electrician, roofers, painters, as well as the permit and inspection processes. We also had Michael’s team repoint our existing brick sidewalk as part of the project - it too looks terrific. All work was completed on time and on budget. We are thoroughly enjoying our new portico and have received many compliments from our friends and neighbors. We highly recommend Michael and his team.

Michael and Managed Renovations helped us with renovating a new house in Colonial Village. The work included a new kitchen, new master bath and closet, and various upgrades throughout the house. We had done some smaller projects with other contractors at our old house. Working with Michael was different for several reasons. Primarily, Michael cared that the work would be done right---probably even more than we did! Several times throughout the project, Michael consistently showed an attention to detail that went far beyond any of the other contractors we've worked with before. In addition to handling the work, Michael also suggested a lot of additions for our consideration. These included upgrading and replacing the (very old) HVAC and hot water heater, waterproofing our basement, changing the door in the kitchen, and replacing our deck. As a result of Michael's suggestions, we've got significantly more space than we expected. Michael's creativity was an added bonus. And the longer we live in the house, the more we've come to appreciate his suggestions---both the ones we took and even the ones we didn't. In addition to great work, the pandemic hit during the middle of our project. Michael and Nelson did everything they could to keep us on schedule, and when that was impossible for outside reasons, Michael created and worked with us on a revised plan to let us move in as soon, and as seamlessly, as possible. If you want your work done well, I highly recommend Managed Renovations.

I highly recommend Michael Shannon and his company, Managed Renovations, to anyone considering a home renovation or construction of a new home. We engaged Managed Renovations in 2007 to provide preliminary construction advice and then to act as our construction management consultant so we could effectively act as our own general contractor for the actual construction of our new home in Chevy Chase, Maryland. He was involved in every aspect of the project from reviewing preliminary plans and final permit drawings, to preparing an extremely detailed estimate of construction costs, to recommending skilled and very capable trade contractors for all of the required tasks and then scheduling and supervising the contractors that we hired to do the actual construction of the house. He coordinated and oversaw all aspects of this project in a very efficient and timely manner. He maintained a wonderful working relationship with me and my wife and everyone associated with the project. His interaction with our contractors, architect, engineers, county agencies, and utilities was exemplary. He was able to schedule and coordinate seamlessly the work of the myriad suppliers, construction trades, county inspectors etc. that all are necessary for a fast, efficient and satisfactory construction project with nary a hitch. Whenever any unforeseen events or unpredictable situations presented themselves, which occur in any large construction project, Mr. Shannon always resolved these situations with grace and aplomb. Mr. Shannon was never shy about suggesting alternatives that could save us money and/or result in a better product. For example, Mr. Shannon suggested a pre-cast concrete foundation construction technique that resulted in substantial cost savings and a stronger, more resilient foundation. He also suggested we have our excavation and concrete contractor install a specialized interior and exterior foundation drainage system so that the frequent, heavy rains we get in the DC area would never result in a drop of water in our basement. Over the twelve plus years that we’ve lived in the house, and through may violent storms, we’ve never had a drop of water anywhere in the house. I cannot overstate his diligence, attention to detail, and his determination to help us build the house of our dreams. He was available anytime, day or night, to meet with us, and address any questions or other aspects concerning construction. His creative suggestions, integrity and willingness to “sweat the details” is utterly beyond reproach. In a word, Managed Renovations was the best.

Michael has worked on three major renovations (and several small tasks) for us, and I am extremely satisfied with each project. Each project was uniquely custom-designed and implemented in a manner that has transformed the house into a nicely blended set of rooms, both old and new. What I truly appreciate about Michael is his willingness and ability to listen to us as clients, and then respond to our needs with his highly professional advice. We discuss every project in detail. We consider options. And only after that does he proceed. Even in the middle of a project, he is willing to consider any mid-course adjustments or additions that we might come up with. In addition, Michael has recommended other professionals to take care of other home repair needs, not just for us, but for family members as well. I will hire Michael again at the drop of a hat because of the professionalism and client orientation that he has demonstrated.

Managed Renovations did an outstanding job on the basement remodel of our home in the fall of 2019. The business brought together multiple services to replace plumbing, electrical, lighting, and flooring. Also building, carpentry, and painting was performed. The area has a bedroom, bathroom, tv room as well as workshop, storage, and laundry. The result was an aesthetically pleasing and efficient use of 1200 square feet of space in an older home. Prior to the commencement of the project, the work was clearly specified along with a time-cost estimate and I was kept informed at each stage of the project. All of the work personnel were on-time and skilled in their field. I would recommend this company to anyone doing new construction or remodel of an existing home.

Michael Shannon and his team worked on a complete cosmetic renovation of the wash room in my then newly-purchased condo. I knew exactly what I wanted done, and when we had our initial consultation, Michael completely understood what I was going for, and even made great suggestions to refine the project even more. All in all, the process from beginning to end was seamless. It also helped that I wasn't living in the space while the reno took place, but that also likely helped speed things along. Michael was always easy to get in touch with via phone or email, and quick to respond to things. He also made sure I understood everything that was happening, as well as ensured that all of my questions were answered. His team also worked well within the strict guidelines of my building, which was a bonus. Overall, the whole process went pretty smoothly, and just about two weeks after the demo took place, I was left with an updated bathroom that I am extremely happy with. Michael and team does extremely well with attention to detail, and really honing in on bringing the customer's vision of the space to life. And given the age of the building, he was able to highlight the areas where I could essentially save money where possible, and overall guiding me through as I made such decisions.
