About Us

Everyone - and every home - deserves a friendly technology adviser. Mills Technologies is a team of experts that specializes in technology integration into homes and businesses. Based in the Chicago area, we design, install and service all kinds of systems, including music, video and television, lighting control, climate control, motorized shades, phone systems, and data/ WiFi networks. When designing a technology system, Mills works with our clients in an iterative process to develop and design a system that incorporates all of their specification, including scope, performance, aesthetics and budget. During this process, we will meet with our clients to set a project scope, specification and budget. Mills will provide preliminary designs and solicit client feedback. By the end of the design phase, clients will be provided with a detailed design with supporting documents. The goals of our design projects are as follows: -Clients will have a technology system designed to their needs and budget -Design professionals, such as architects and designers, will have a detailed set of drawings to incorporate into their overall design -All parties will have the necessary design and construction documents by which to solicit bids pertaining to the installation and commissioning of low voltage systems A third-generation family-run business, Mills has over 75 years of experience in the audio/video industry. Mills Recording Company was founded in 1939 and specialized in wire recording and playback machines. For five decades the firm operated a retail electronics store on Michigan Avenue in the heart of downtown Chicago. In 1994, Mills Custom A/V was formed, focusing exclusively on the custom install business to best serve our customers. We specialize in residential and light commercial technology systems, with emphasis on reliable, intuitive systems that aesthetically integrate into spaces. Mills employs some of the most experienced team members in the industry, and represents the very best consumer technology products. Mills is a member of the Consumer Electronics Design and Installation Association (CEDIA).

We have had a long and collaborative working relationship with Mills Custom A/V. Our firm routinely recommends Mills to our clients. Mills provides a variety of services (lighting controls, media installations, AV work, wiring, phone coordination etc) and they always respond to our clients with the appropriate package of items and services, and the client’s budget. The Mills team is constantly educating themselves so that they always have the newest product to offer their clients. Not only do they offer the newest products, but they are well versed on the pros and cons of each offering and are very thorough when discussing the products and explaining them to the clients. In fact, they are very practical about their recommendations and don’t suggest to our clients that they load up on the newest gadgets. Their service and responsiveness is of the highest quality, even Bryan Mills is readily available to answer questions . Their technicians are kind, respectful and knowledgeable. They work nicely both on the construction site, coordinating their work with the crews, as well as working within the home with the owners.

Mills designed, installed and now routinely updates my whole house sound system. When I was building my new house, I wanted to convert my traditional sound system to a practical, easy to use new technology. Mills showed me all my options and collaborated with my builder to integrate implementation with construction. The outcome was amazing and today, I can call my Mills experts anytime I have a question and they will help me. Expert and really nice people!

I have worked with Mills Custom Audio/Video on two large projects over the past 2 years and have found them to be the best AV Designer/Contractor I have ever worked with. Their attention to the design and aesthetic of a space is refreshing from other contractors I have worked with in the past. In addition, they are always up to date on current technology and provide recommendations that bring a level of quality to their projects. In addition to their design sense, their level of service is top notch. They are always available to assist with client requests consistently meet all deadlines. I recommend them on all of my projects and know if they are selected, this aspect of the project will run smoothly and we will have a happy client at the end of the project.

A year after a devastating flood in our historic home, there is music in the air, both literally and figuratively, because of Mills A/V. Sonos is awesome, as we are learning, and so is Crestron. We also have a new projector, speakers, Apple TV, Internet and phone system. It is a dizzying amount of technology, but it is all seamlessly integrated and remarkably easy to use after a lesson or two. Mills has been indispensable in getting our home up and running again. It took a lot of hard work, but they make it look easy. They're just great!
