Do NOT hire Mark Scott Costruction unless you want your project to be held up for months with their lies, failure to arrive as scheduled and send unknowledgeable employees to improperly do the work. Their favorite line is "Next week", and you'll hear that for months.
The "electrician", (their words, not mine) obviously didn't have any wiring knowledge when he insisted on connecting a fan to the room's lighting switch that was separate prior to him working on it. He insisted the only solution was for the fan to come on every time the lights were on. When I pointed out the switches had always been separate, he shrugged. Because I felt uncomfortable with his answers, I hired a licensed electrician who told me Mark Scott Construction had done the wiring improperly and created a fire hazard. We paid a licensed electrician to completely rewire the wiring MS had done and bring up to code, so it was safe and done properly.
Their "plumber" disconnected a faucet and left the water badly leaking while he went for an extended lunch, which leaked all over the floor boards located under the subfloor, by the time I had looked at it shortly after he left. I had to shut off our water main and immediately go to the hardware store to buy caps to plug the leaking pipes. When I reported this to Arnie, he was unconcerned.
Their "cabinet maker" wanted to install a prefab cabinet that was too small for the space and cover the large gaps with trim. When she would only answer my questions about drawer and cabinet depth and size, with "big enough", she later admitted to being a designer, not a cabinet maker. We had a customed made cabinet made to fit that space previously. Mark Scott Construction knew we wanted another made to fit the odd sized space.
I had slabs on hold at Arizona Tile for well over a month before the foreman Arnie finally told me he went to look at it. All during that time, MS kept pushing the most hideous piece of material for me to choose. Because we were getting a good price at Arizona on something we liked, we had to hire a fabricator or lose our hold on the slabs because we didn't want to pay if it wouldn't work for our project. After Arnie said he looked at the slabs, Arizona said that nobody except the fabricator had requested to view them.
Arnie is a smooth talker who will tell you what you want to hear. Don't be fooled.
I will give complements to Kirsten and Mark. Kirsten was the first MS employee who contacted me immediately and came to view and measure our project. Kirsten was friendly, professional
and prompt as well as good at communicationg until TJ and Arnie received our project. Mark was the lead person on our project. I felt he was honest and a great communicator, for as much as he was able, working under Arnie. There was also a hard working man who came in to repair some shoddy work another Mark Scott Construction employee had done, but unfortunately I do not remember his name. He worked hard and was consistent and offered quality workmanship, but he only repaired a small part of our project.
Although they did provide me with the permit afterwards, they lied to our insurance company that I didn't pay for any other "work" they provided. I paid 10% down, which was more than the cost of the permit. I refused to pay the additional thousands of dollars before any work had begun and sure glad I realized their "next week" would never come or we would be out a lot more money!
In several months of hearing "next week", all we were left with was an exposed attic and demolished bathroom, another company had demolished. I don't believe they could have been worse if they had tried to be that awful. I attest this is the truth and put my correct name on this review. I finally had to fire them, so the project could be completed properly and in a timely fashion. Maureen Volponi, Livermore, CA.
P.S. Houzz requires a completed project date, but the work was never completed by Mark Scott Construction. I provided the date they were fired instead.
