Nature Designs Landscaping

I hired Nature Designs for what I think was a pretty difficult project. I was trying to keep the character and many of the plants in the yard that my mom loved while fixing broken drainage, irrigation and retaining walls. I wanted the best team and very careful people and that's what I got. Steve was great at explaining what they would do and why it was important and staying within budget. Sofia worked with me to come up with a wonderful design and to make sure it was implemented perfectly. James and the crew were on the job everyday and respected me and my neighbors and carefully worked around every plant, pot, nicknack and statue that was so important to me!! Jennifer checked to make sure the plants and locations in the design would not have any problems. We all made such a good team and I love the final product. Exceptional work for a fair price.

This is a fantastic team to work with! Nature Designs was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and trustworthy throughout the entire process. The final cost of our project was precisely on budget and the results exceeded our expectations. We are grateful to have such a wonderful outdoor space for our family thanks to their hard work and creativity. We were also pleasantly surprised with the care the team took to clean up after each day of work so we could enjoy the progress that was being made each evening throughout the construction process. We contracted with Nature Designs Landscaping to completely redesign our front and rear landscaping. In addition we had them redesign our outdoor kitchen. Working with Doug from Nature Designs during the design phase was terrific. He listened to our feedback and came up with a design we loved. Our landscaping now looks amazing and our outdoor kitchen does as well. During the actual implementation of the project, Emily was our main point of contact and we talked to her regularly and she also gave us weekly status updates via email - it was all very professional! Joel was also on premise nearly every day making sure everything was done perfectly and looking out for the little things that make a big difference. We enjoyed working with the team so much that it was a bit sad when the project ended and we all said good bye. I would use Nature Design Landscaping again without hesitation and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone thinking of a landscaping/hardscaping project

My family had the pleasure of working with Doug Dilworth on a complete exterior landscape design completed in spring of 2022. This included new hardscape, driveway, trash enclosure and the addition of an outdoor fireplace. The finish work, execution, plant selection and customer service was outstanding from start to finish and we could not be more pleased with the finished result. Doug made wonderful suggestions yet also listened to what we wanted and was always patient when we wanted to add or make edits. He was accommodating while still keeping the job on track and on time. This was a major project that involved tree removals, relocating structures and careful consideration for placement of new trees and making sure the fireplace did not impact the property's views. Doug's expert eye and design skill has added tremendous value to the property and the entire family is absolutely thrilled. We could not speak more highly of Doug and his abilities. Not only is he incredibly talented, he also is patient, kind and understanding of the significance of undertaking such a large project. I could not recommend him highly enough. If you are lucky enough to meet with him in person, I suggest immediately securing your spot on his busy schedule. You'll be thrilled with your decision. We sure are. It was a true pleasure working with Nature Designs Landscaping. They just completed a redesign of our front and backyards and we couldn’t be happier with the process as well as the result! From the beginning of the project Doug, who was the designer and project manager, listened to our wish list and budget and was able to create a design plan that incorporated everything we wanted within that budget. He was incredible to work with…always keeping us informed and managed the project seamlessly. The construction phase went off without a hitch.The entire construction team was talented, professional and kind!! Joel was an amazing supervisor who had a very keen eye for detail and Ramon is a truly talented artisan. After seeing their work and knowing we were in great hands we decided to add more to the scope of the project. It was actually sad to see them go when the project was over. The result has become our oasis…two beautiful fragrant gardens that are perfectly illuminated at night with expansive brick decks. Doug and the team translated our fledgling thoughts into a magical back and front yard design that we absolutely LOVE!! I couldn’t recommend Nature Designs more emphatically!

4 years after we had an "Endless Pool" installed, it still works great! Recently, we've had an electrical problem (after a lightning knocked out the street transformer), the installer - Nature Designs Landscaping - came to our house and fixed the problem for FREE! They stand behind their work and they are proud of their work - wish more contractors were like that! Anything having to do with landscaping - we will go with them!

Nature Designs is one of the best companies we have worked with. From the beginning of our landscape project to the final details, everything was top quality! Jay Thomas, our Project Manager, worked with us through each step. He was always available through emails, texting, and phone calls and we felt as if we were his only client. He, and the crew that came to our home, were professional, courteous, and hard-working. They paid attention to the details, from the original design, to small changes that presented itself during the destruction and construction, to the final inspection that our City signed off on. They left our yard clean and secure during the project, which I appreciated. My children were never in danger of tools being left out and I was not worried about my dog getting out, as they put up a small, temporary fence at the end of each work day, until my new fence and gate were installed. They were always on time each day, took their lunch breaks on the work-site, and left at the end of their work day, never before. They all put in a full-day's work. I could hear the crew talking and laughing as they worked, which told me that they truly enjoy working with each other, but never did I see anyone slacking off. Even the City parking enforcement officer, who patrols our neighborhood near the college campus here, commented to me one day toward the end of our project that Nature Designs has done a great job. They did everything as according to the law. Putting cones out when necessary, obeying the City's overnight parking laws, and cleaning up after themselves, down to shoveling the street's gutters! Nature Designs is a company which stands behind their work and brings the highest quality to their customers! I would hire them again, without hesitation.

I rarely write reviews, but my thoroughly positive experience with Nature Designs now deserves my enthusiastic effort. I have built out 4 backyards in San Diego, and this experience has been the best by far…even to the point of being really enjoyable instead of stressful! The end product pool/spa/BBQ/hardscape/landscape/lighting is absolutely spectacular, highly functional, and is the subject of exceptional praise from friends and neighbors. As just one of many examples of their exceptional work, the vanishing edges on both the pool and spa (over 50’ of it) have absolutely no high or low spots…the water flows perfectly even! So, how did we get here? The overall team approach at Nature Designs and their use of their own employees for most of the work, including both the pool and landscaping (instead of a parade of anonymous sub-contractors), is very unique and efficient. I want to personally thank Carson (Project Manager) and Joel (Job Site Superintendent) for their never-ending attention to detail and customer satisfaction. I surely tested their patience with some of my detailed requests, but they never wavered. I started the planning/quoting process with three highly recommended candidate contractors, and it became quickly apparent that Nature Designs was a cut above the others. They took the time through a series of site visits to really understand my wants and needs (and the differences between them), as well as my concerns (including budgetary), even taking me to see other jobs they did to help refine the design. After the contract was signed, their great service became even better (not always the case with others!) as we worked through various details, even visiting some vendors together to help choose materials. As work progressed, we encountered the inevitable challenges in such a complex project, and each time Nature Designs acted as a truly knowledgeable partner to come up with viable solutions. Anybody who has done such a project before learns to fear the words “change order”, as many contractors use this opportunity to jack up their pricing after coming in with a low original bid. In each case here, Nature Designs provided fair pricing and detailed documentation for change orders that allowed me to make the changes I really wanted without feeling taken advantage of, or having to regret not making those changes for years afterwards. There were also a number of times during the project where I noticed something not quite right, and they almost always implemented a fix before I could even point it out to them, let alone having to argue about the issue which often had been my previous experience with other contractors. Even at the end of the project getting down to the very last punch list item, their energy and attention to detail did not falter one bit…again a very unusual and refreshing experience! Nature Designs may not initially appear to be the cheapest option out there, but they are very fair and reasonable throughout the process making it extremely cost effective in the end. In my opinion, this is definitely a case of “you get what you pay for”, and actually far more! If you desire exceptional and timely project design and execution, and appreciate maintaining your personal sanity throughout the process, do yourself a favor and call Nature Designs!

We have been customesr of Nature Designs for over 6 years. Our initial contract was maintencance on our property. We were so impressed with their technical expertise and customer service, we hired them for landscape design and installation as well as some hardscape projects. Since converting to all perenniel and water tolerant gardens, all managed by Nature Designs, our property has acheived multiple awards in both maintenance and landscape design. We are very happy customers and look forward to more years of beautiful gardens and excellent service by Nature Designs.

We knew of Steve Jacob's company from his extensive community work in Escondido and also an excellent job creating a terraced patio at my former house. This property required extensive restoration and repair. Nature Designs helped us with overall assessment and planning, which is essential for a project including a historic house and steep lot. We prioritized, and they installed custom fencing (both wood and metal in various areas,) removed dozens of enormous trees, excavated and rebuilt an extremely tricky area where water was leaking into the house, completely replaced a complex series of patios and stairs into unified brick, created a new deck out of Trex, helped deal with erosion along a sandstone bluff including planting new bouganvillias along the top, assessed and repaired the irrigation system in many areas, and now maintain our pool. All of this took place over six months! We greatly appreciate the quality of work, the high standards for their workers (all of whom were extremely respectful and very hard working,) the ways they take care of their employees, the breadth of their experience, and their willingness to listen, change plans if necessary, and correct mistakes. It has been wonderful to know we could talk with the job site manager or call our project manager and receive immediate, attentive and extremely thorough attention to the kind of detail we felt was necessary. We give them five stars because they are a top-rate company.

I have used Nature Designs for a number of landscaping projects, the most recent being an update to the filter pump for my pool, and redoing my garden drainage system in advance of the expected El Niño. The firm I'd consistently reliable, NEAT and punctual. A crew chief came by regularly to check the work. The owner, Steve Jacobs, visited personally at the end of the work to inspect and explain aspects of the projects. While they may not be the cheapest estimate you'll get, you will receive professional, up to date advice, reliable, clean workmanship, and a courteous and pleasant crew. It's obvious that Steve has created a company of happy, dedicated employees and that makes all the difference. I will continue to use them as my 'landscape contractor of choice' in the future.

I hired Nature Designs about 6 months ago to get my landscaping in order. My previous gardeners weren't the best at keeping things as nice as I'd like (although I'll admit they were very inexpensive). I am very pleased with Nature Designs. Very professional, personable, they listen, understand and follow-through with requests and are very pro-active. Ernie was great at getting things started and Teri is a dream to work! The crew is professional and pro-active. Would highly recommend. They aren't the cheapest, but worth the extra $$.
