Sebastian and his team did a great job. We renovated our unfinished basement to create a duplex down in Chicago. Knowing how costly and painful it is to hire the wrong contractor, i did a lengthy vetting process prior to signing a contract. The reviews from Sebastian's past clients just sounded different. They talked about how his team was always waiting in the driveway to start work as soon as city ordinances allowed, how his team left a pristine job site at the end of the day and how they wished they had met Sebastian earlier if they had done multiple construction projects. You can add me to the list of previous clients that would give raving reviews. Our project: We had a tight three month timeline and Sebastian finished early. Along the way we found a couple of challenges with the architectural design or modifications that we wanted to make, but had not considered as part of the original project scope. Sebastian always worked with us to find ways to solve the unexpected challenges that always arise, often finding creative solutions (that were also sound construction and structural decisions and worked closely with our architect the few times it was needed. His flexibility and agility made a huge difference. Though building a home is always a bit trying and complicated, working with Sebastian, Daniel and the talented crew of New Explode Construction has made it a creative and rewarding experience. First let me say, Sebastian and his crews are beyond friendly. The work they do is GREAT! Crews would show up in the driveway at 6;30, waiting to start at 7. I don't have enough kind things to say about Sebastian Micle and his crew from New Explode Construction. They gut rehabbed my landmark building in Ukrainian Village and converted it from a 3 flat to a single family in only 9 months. They work fast, they have very competitive prices and most importantly they do quality work. Sebastian's crew are polite and friendly and Sebastian himself is a delight to work with.

We bought our home in the Spring of 2017 and although we only wanted to fresh up the space with new paint and the necessary polishing initially, we then decided that we want to remodel the entire house. Since our new plans included new kitchen and new bathrooms we realized we needed professional help so we hired Sebastian with New Explode Construction. I know I am not the first person to say this, but remodeling can be very stressful but I was very comfortable with Sebastian from the moment I met him as he is a very nice guy and pleasant to deal with. I had a good feeling about Sebastian when I met him and the same good feeling continued throughout the entire remodeling process, and what was even nicer is that his team gave us the same good, positive vibe. If you ever did any remodeling, you know that there are a lot of surprises behind the walls and everywhere, and most of these surprises are not good news and this is where a contractor’s experience, knowledge, and calm transfer into less stress for the client. Communication skills are hard to find in this business but Sebastian is truly client-oriented, and he made sure to talk to us at every decision point and that things would be done in a way that would make us happy. Sebastian went above and beyond in several respects, for example working at no extra charge on a plumbing issue in the basement even though the leak they discovered had nothing to do with his work. New Explode Construction’s work was uniformly excellent, professional, on-time, and without any additional surprises in cost increase. The excellence of work extended from New Explode Construction to every other professional they brought onto the job - from exquisitely skilled tile people doing fine detailed work in odd spaces, to heating pros, to electricians, to a fantastic team of carpenters. I believe that by working with Sebastian we saved a lot of time, and we saved time because of his work focus and his good project management skills, but Sebastian saved us time because he understood our needs and he made it simple. For example, we told Sebastian how we want the hardwood floors and he proceeded without us having to meet with the floor professional. He took the time to understand our needs and to further explain to the installer. I've changed my mind many times during this project, but they still managed to finish everything prior to the agreed deadline. Moving forward, if we ever consider additional projects in our home or elsewhere, New Explode Construction is our “go to” contractor even if we will have to wait a few months for them to be available. Sebastian was professional, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, patient and had an appreciation for the structural integrity of our project as well as the architectural aesthetics of the project. Sebastian and all of his sub-contractors were all professional, respectful, courteous, and diligent - this was very important to me and my husband and son. If you had a question about something, they would speak to you about it. We also used Sebastian's recommendation for a kitchen designer at Studio 41, and the work we did together made for a beautiful kitchen! Sebastian was always available to answer any questions we had, explain a process that we weren't sure about, and ease our way through the process. This review is long overdue. Sebastian did our complete bathroom remodel two summers ago, and we are still thrilled with it. He was amazing to work with. He offered suggestions (but didn't push), and went to the store with us several times to help us pick out the finishings. Workmanship was excellent. New Explode remodeled two bathrooms in my home, the master bath and a children's bath. The master bath project involved moving all plumbing, a part of the project at which other vendors balked. The children's project was a standard remodel. New Explode did an outstanding job finishing on time and on budget. Sebastian, the owner, was involved on a daily basis and met with us routinely to ask forward-thinking questions and offer valuable suggestions based on his experience. I've worked with Sebastian on several rehab projects and we are currently working on a 28 unit residential rehab. He is extremely knowledgeable of the City of Chicago Code and you can rest assured you will pass inspections. He works hard to meet all deadlines and unlike most contractors he is approachable and reachable...meaning if he don't answer the phone when you call, he will call you right back! Very important.

Very responsive, great design idea, forward thinking. I used Explode Construction to quote my gut rehab project. They handled the entire process with professionalism and patience: pull out all the permits, accommodate all the changes I made during the project, pass all the inspections (rough, HVAC, electrical, plumbing) delivered a high quality product.

I needed a full bathroom make over, including window removal and new glass blocks. New Explode was timely and very attentive. There were of course hiccups on any large project (predominantly me not measuring as accurately as I should have) but Sebastian and his team were quick to talk to me about the solutions and very good and finalizing and fixing them so that the bathroom came out marvelous. It is the best room in the house. I am very, very happy with New Explode and will certainly call them first for any other other remodeling I need done.

The holidays are over and cooking and baking in my new kitchen that Sebastian and his team designed helped make them spectacular! I had held off for years for a kitchen remodel after listening to so many horror stories , none of which I encountered with this company. From start to finish they were right on time and after the initial planning the project was completed in just over three weeks!! Sebastian listened to everything my husband and I wanted and helped to steer us in the right direction to accomplish what we wanted. His team worked efficiently and after the project was completed Sebastian called to see that everything was all right. This attention to detail is what makes this company special. I would recommend them to anyone.

Sebastian and his team were fantastic. I had gotten quotes from 4 other companies who took weeks to respond and were 30%-100% (yes 100%!) more expensive than New Explode Construction. Sebastian called me within hours of getting my initial email (I was referred to him by a friend who used him) and was at my house that same day to survey my space. The next day, I had a quote. He worked within my budget and was transparent (showed receipts) with any out of pocket material fees I had to pay for (i.e. grout, valves, etc). My house had been gutted due to water damage and I was basically starting from scratch. Sebastian helped me map out the remodel of 2 of my bathrooms. He was incredibly communicative- texting, emailing and calling anytime there was an update or I had a question. He even texted me suggestions while I was at the tile store, helping me to "virtually" pick out the right tiles. He walked me through the steps (which materials to pick up, what types of hardware would be best for which spaces, etc.) I had a few 'creative' ideas that he was able to work with- for example, re-wiring my vanity lights to fit a new configuration, using some 'found' granite I wanted to turn into shelving and turning my shower into a makeup vanity and my bathtub into a walk-in shower (with a rain shower head). He never up-charged me for my creative additions, which was very appreciated. There were some minor details missed (i.e. installed a crooked doorknob, some missing paint), but Sebastian was willing to come fix them when I addressed it with him. His team was courteous, respectful and always on time. They finished the project quickly and within budget- which was most important to me. I cannot recommend Sebastian and his team more highly!

Sebastian and his team did a full gut rehab and small addition on our old home in Long Grove. A 5-6 month project, that turned out pretty great overall and was more or less on time. He has been responsive to any issues that have come up, and we have additional work scheduled with him to complete a deck and possible other items. I would suggest hiring Sebastian with the understanding that it is important to be on site and to make sure you communicate what you want. He very rarely says no, as long as you communicate your needs as a homeowner. With any contractor, you must give the project the time it needs from your standpoint as the homeowner, just as the contractor must do the same on his project. Sebastian is not the contractor to hire if you expect a red carpet and full hand holding from start to finish. Instead, they connect you with the right project managers, and designers that do the hand holding when it comes to kitchen and bathroom design as well as other important parts of the project. His team are solid laborers who bring many of the trades within Sebastian's team, and will work hard to complete the job on time and probably under your budget. Specifics Problems; • Some floor issues with the new hardwood floors (Bowing), sub-contractor was very inexpensive though. Nothing that would make us not hire him again, the value was there and the floors are probably 85-90% as good as anyone who would have charged twice the fee. Still working this our with Sebastian and agreed to wait for the seasonal change that hardwood floors experience in the fall. • Some issues with the HVAC contractor with sloppy work on piping which lead to a ceiling leak on our cooling unit and some damages to 2nd floor hardwood floor and 1at floor ceiling. This was a sub contractor though and not a reflection of Sebastian's work. • A more cleanly worksite was requested on a few occasions, but nothing that was not immediately resolved. I should stress that with the scope and size of our job, the problems we did encounter, were not out of the ordinary for such a large project and have been rectified except the floor issues which we agreed to wait on. Specific Successes: • Very flexible with "Scope of Work" and went to all ends to make us happy. • Very nice deck work on the exterior. • Overall very nice drywall work, considering the different surfaces we were working with. • Overall very nice framing work by a veteran framing sub-contractor. • Overall Window and Door installation was a success and we have had no problems. • Complete new roof with not a single leak, this was impressive considering the challenges with connecting multiple roofs and the age of the structure. • New gutters with no problems. • Extra help in installing appliances, and detail work in the kitchen. • Cabinet installation in Kitchen, Mudroom and Library was excellent. • Very impressed with the value of both interior and exterior painting. Our interior painting turned out excellent. • The Garage was gutted and prepped for garage doors, which were not in the scope of work for this phase, but more or less, it is ready. • No problems with any electrical or plumbing work, and all electrical fixtures work as they should. The project spanned from October of 2014 to March of 2015. We did not live in the home during construction.

What a fantastic company to work with! Sebastian, the owner, came right out when I initially contacted him about taking a look at and giving a quote to install my remodeled kitchen's backsplash tile. He then went to the tile shop on his own time just to make sure he completely understood what the job entailed before giving me an estimate. His quote was very fair and I appreciated his timeliness so I hired him. Once the tile arrived, Sebastian and a few of his employees started the project right away and worked for two, long straight days to complete the tile in our kitchen and butler's pantry. I hired New Explode Construction for two 2 projects on my condo, my basement and my bathroom. After they completed my first project hiring them for the second was a no brainer. They have great attention to detail, timeliness and bringing recommendations to the table. They are also very trust worthy and honest which is important when investing a lot of money in projects and leaving them to work in my home during the day while I'm at work. I had a basement bedroom renovation, and accepted bids from 3 Chicago companies. New Explode's bid was by far the best, and Sebastian had the most innovative and creative ways to design the bathroom and refinish the ceiling, walls and floors. He made everything possible, and best of all, affordable! I thought I would only be able to have a half-bath, but he installed a full bath by utilizing all the space effectively. I am in the process of scheduling him to return for an estimate on another project, and I can't rate him highly enough.

My wife and I hired Sebastian Micle, a general contractor and president of NEC. The job included the removal of the old kitchen cabinets and wall tiles and the installation of new ones. Sebastian even went with us to Home Depot and helped us pick out the new tiles. The project also included a new granite counter top. Sebastian had a stone contractor come to our house with samples. Sebastian Micle is a very calm and knowledgeable professional and has surrounded himself with a crew of hard working and knowledgeable employees.

I enthusiastically recommend Sebastian Micle of New Explode Construction INC for the construction/rehab work. It is a very challenging job to find a good general contractor with good price and quality. In 2008 we purchased an old building at the Hyde Park area, and that building needs a substantial amount of rehab work. At that time we had no knowledge/experience on rehab, only know that the water of rehab business can be quite deep: you could spend huge amount of fund, and the work could be done poorly. To rehab our building, we have interviewed about 10 general contractors (including Sebastian), and we asked them the following questions: what projects they have finished; the planned timeline and the actual finish date; how to prepare city inspections; the budget control issue; choice of contraction materials; choice of sub-contractors; among others. Based on the inputs from the 10 general contractors, we decided to hire Sebastian. He has an educational background in engineering and a good past rehab/new construction experience. He very carefully checked the building condition and recommended things to be done, according to the priority. Given our budget, he carefully wrote an excellent proposal on what goals can be achieved, and the timeline of the project. We are glad that we made the right decision. Sebastian successfully completed the project and passed City inspections. Representative of our lender (a local community bank) came and was also impressed by Sebastian’s project. Due to its good quality, we easily rented it out: the tenants like the building. During the one-year warranty after the project, Sebastian paid close attention on the building. Due to the excellent rehab work, the maintenance is quite easy. Sebastian carefully performed the rehabbed project as if it were his own property. With the successful experience from our first building, we purchased other properties, and the rehab projects were also carried out satisfactorily.

I got the pleasure of working with Sebastian and his team from New explode Construction (NECChicago) to remodel the kitchen of my new home. Start to finish, from responding to my request for a quote to installing the last cabinet door handle, Sebastian was professional, punctual, responsive,courteous, mindful, accountable, and I could continue on with the list. I tried to save money on some electrical work as well as a kitchen & bathroom remodel. The original contractors made many mistakes and left the place a mess. I had a tight deadline and New Explode came in and fixed all the work and then proceeded to perform several other improvements to my condo.
