Founded by English Landscape Architect Nigel Staton in 2004, Land by Design is a widely respected landscape architecture practice with projects across the United States, from Colorado to California and New York. Nigel began his professional career as an attorney at a leading London law firm. Subsequently, in the search for more creative, sensory, and meaningful work, he travelled globally and settled in Germany and France where he taught business law in French. This deepened his appreciation for the relationship between culture, space, and the designed environment and ultimately led him to Landscape Architecture, a field where he could unite art, science, and all five senses. He earned a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Colorado at Denver, receiving the Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence, and established his Denver-based practice. Over the years, he has contributed to the redevelopment of urban environments, working alongside renowned urban preservationist Dana Crawford, while maintaining a strong focus on residential design and extending his practice throughout the United States. Today, Nigel brings over 25 years of experience to homeowners seeking thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling outdoor spaces. His work is shaped by influences from all over the world, a deep connection to nature, and a clear understanding of how people live within their environments.
