When we purchased our historic farmhouse a year ago, we did so with the intention of renovating some of the spaces without disrupting the overall style and feel of the house. Our focus was the kitchen, wet bar, garden room and one bathroom. During our first meeting with Pat, we were impressed with his professionalism and desire to understand not only what we wanted in terms of design, but also our expectations of the General Contractor. Subsequent meetings with the design team allowed us to create a detailed rendition of the finished project, a process that was interactive and invaluable. Aimee and Christina provided excellent guidance in selecting materials to bring our vision to life. Once construction began, the on-site team was respectful of our time/space, and they left the areas organized and clean at the end of each day. When challenges arose, they were great about communicating our options and helping us develop an ideal solution. Dan, Ken and Matt are extremely detail oriented, and our project was completed flawlessly. We highly recommend Godfrey's team for design and renovation projects.

We hired Godfrey Design and Build in 2024 to work on a Master Bedroom addition to our home. For several years we have wanted to build a master bedroom following our first home improvement project (kitchen expansion) by another vendor. We had some challenges with that first vendor which made us hesitant to start another project. However, after meeting Pat the first time we could tell this would be a different experience. He was very professional, approachable, and thoughtful in his presentation of his company and his ideas for the MB expansion. We were immediately impressed by him and his references shared that they rehired Pat for second projects which reinforced our initial reaction. Pat's team including Scott, Fred, Dan, Aimee, and all the vendors they recommended for finishes also demonstrated that level of professionalism. Their work is high quality, they stayed on schedule (and they were very clean!), and ensured minimal disruption as we remained in the house during the renovation. I would not hesitate to hire them for another project and highly recommend Godfrey Design and Build.

Godfrey Design-Build was a breath of fresh air to work with. After struggling with a different design-build firm for 9 months to get them to do simple things like produce a quote, Pat and team came in to timely provide a detailed cost and schedule estimate for our significant renovation. After agreeing to proceed with them, they unquestionably nailed the project. Here are the basic attributes that you'd hope for with any contractor that they absolutely crushed: - They show up on time. - They return your calls and messages. - They proactively communicate with you. - They get the job done. - They were professional. Here are the advanced level attributes they bring to the table: - They have a team of talented people with experience. - They appropriately set expectations as to what is possible and what it will cost. - We finished our project, which included needing to moving out of our house from April-August, on-time and on budget (minor exceptions being minimal cost additions that we elected to add). - If they ran into something unexpected during the project, they proactively came to us with solutions that kept our vision for the project intact. - They were incredibly gracious and conscientious of our neighbors during the entire project. - They managed all of their subcontractors very well - The details of each payment throughout the project were laid out ahead of time with a schedule and any expenses outside of that were gone over in detail, signed off on/agreed to ahead of time, and itemized. - We visited the house nearly everyday when we weren't staying there, but it was because it was exciting to see the progress they were making and we never felt the need to "check up" on the workers even once. - The quality of work was top-notch.

Godfrey Design & Build completely redesigned and restored part of our 1700's era home. They kept us updated on their progress and timeline, and completed the job exactly within the time quoted. They kept the work area very clean, and we had minimal disruption to our daily lives throughout the process. We wanted to keep a lot of the original woodwork in the rooms, close off an old staircase creating a closet on the second floor landing, and to turn the old fireplaces into electric units. All this work was done beautifully and with an eye for detail from the entire team. Fred has a keen eye and helped make our ideas into reality, while making suggestions to keep costs within our desired budget. He had some great ideas; from the fireplaces to paint color. The original flooring in one 200 + year old room was also sanded and refinished...it is shocking how it is now like a new floor. Godfrey Design & Build made these rooms even more than functional, they actually are a work of art.

We worked with Pat, Fred and the Godfrey team to update our new house before we moved in and had the absolute best experience we could've imagined. Pat and Fred were professional and responsive - even making time to support a next-day walkthrough to help us with negotiations before we even closed on the house - and all projects were completed on time and within the communicated budget. We wanted to complete a series of projects before we moved into the home on a short timeline and the team rose to the challenge and completed everything on schedule and as beautifully as we envisioned. The Godfrey team's work is meticulous and I felt very in the loop the entire way through the process. I will not be making any future decisions about work in our home without running them by Fred, who stewarded the entire team for us, reached out to me regularly with updates and was extremely responsive whenever I had questions. He is an incredible resource and craftsman - proactive, perceptive and an absolute pleasure to work with; I'm only sad that our work is completed because I won't get to talk to Fred so often! The entire team is also fantastic, extremely respectful, and knowledgeable - Ken, Joe and Dan (who built a beautiful bench for us in our kitchen) - and I look forward to working with all of them again on our next projects.

We've first hired Pat Godfrey and his team in 2016 to renovate the basement of our 200 year-old house in Salem. They were able to work creatively to turn a labyrinth of old fieldstone and staggered support posts into a wonderful family oasis for us and our two young kids. When we moved to a larger (and not quite as old) house in 2020, we immediately called Pat to do a complete renovation of the second floor. This included building two huge dormers, converting one large, awkward bathroom into two spacious new bathrooms, and creating a gorgeous master suite. The architecture of our home presented a lot of challenges as there are sloping ceilings just about everywhere. Pat patiently listened to my ideas and changes. His team was very sensitive to our quality of life during the construction (I was 5-9 months pregnant and raising a 2 and 4 year old!). We had excellent communication throughout. I would recommend Godfrey Design-Build without reservation.

I had an aging kitchen, dining room, and three-season porch that felt dark and closed off from the outside world, and the designers at Godfrey came up with a great plan to combine and transform them into a place that is way more functional and inviting. Like many of the reviews here, I am very pleased with the professionalism, timeliness, and responsiveness of Godfrey Design Build through the whole process. Pat assembles a group of pros to handle every specialty needed to get the job done, and Fred has each contractor and supply deliveries perfectly choreographed so no time is wasted. The extensive plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work appears as if done with pride, not with interest in finishing as quickly as possible. No corners are cut; no cheap materials are used. I’ll look forward to working with Pat on some other trouble spots in the house in the future. (See before and after photos)

Godfrey Design-Build did an excellent job remodeling my kitchen and bathroom. I purchased a condo that was originally part of an older home. Pat and his team at Godfrey Design-Build gave me the exact updates I was looking for: modern, with a hint of the home's old charm. Additionally, Pat and his team were able to add baseboard heating and an air conditioning unit, which came in handy over this summer. I could not be happier with the renovations. Pat and his team are not only responsive, but will provide an honest opinion regarding any design options during the renovation process. I highly recommend using Pat and his team if you are looking for high quality work!

Pat and his team did such an excellent job with the remodel of our basement!!! We wanted to expand space in our house and in dire need of help. Pat made the process so easy and knew exactly what to do. It’s amazing to see someone create nothing into something great. They followed all safety protocols and we felt safe as well. the project manager was really accommodating always asking us what we wanted and what he was doing. We felt like he always kept us in the project and didn’t just leave us behind. We now have a new entertainment area for guests and a quiet place where my son can unwind and relax. Most of all it elevated the value of our house. Thank you to pat and all the team members!!

After meeting with several contractors we are very pleased that we chose Godfrey Design-Build for our project. Pat and his team helped us renovate our basement that included a 1/2 bath, wet bar, media room/game room, along with new windows and doors. From the beginning the entire team was fantastic and clear communicators. We always knew where we were in the project, who was scheduled to arrive and if there were any issues, delays, or decisions that needed to be made. Every member of the team, including sub-contractors, were always prompt and very responsive to any questions or concerns we had, no matter how small. They made it a priority to help us feel very involved throughout the whole project by listening to our ideas as the project progressed. In the end, the project was not only completed on budget, but it turned out exactly as we had hoped and envisioned and we would absolutely love to work with Pat and his team again in the future.
