Starr Contracting

We hired Starr Contracting to re-grade our backyard and install a new patio with fire-pit and a play area for our son. Peter was extremely prompt with providing us an initial quote for the project and then making suggestions/revisions to the design so we could work within our budget. Peter and his team cleaned up our yard at the end of each day and provided us with daily updates on their progress. Along the way, they suggested some modifications to our original design and we could not be happier with the end result! The pride that they take in their work is apparent! Their expertise and craftsmanship showed through every step of the project. We cannot wait to enjoy many years in our new backyard.

We had Peter Starr design and build a patio with a walkway to the main entrance of our home in Avon, CT. He did a superb job of designing it, producing computerized drawings with accurate estimates. He is highly creative and highly professional. He introduced several features that we had not thought of that added greatly to the overall success of the project. The execution of the project was also superb. He started on time, cleaned up the site every day while on the job, and finished on schedule. The minor landscaping around the project was beautiful. We could not have been more pleased with his work and recommend him highly.

STARR Contracting was fabulous, they built us 2 beautiful patios and edged our beds. They were clean, reliable, affordable, and there work ethic was outstanding. I would recommend them to anyone who is doing a landscape project.

We were so glad Starr was willing to wait for us to get our patio and walk done. Our Patio and walk is like a dream project out of a magazine. They worked on every detail of stone color, rock size, lighting, and our feature wall. We had a budget and they kept to it. Peter and staff were clean, professional, timely, respectful and so creative. Starr was far beyond anyone else we interviewed. We will have them back this year to do more work.

Starr Contracting is by far the best contracting team (and we have worked with dozens) we have ever hired, for any type of job. There are many reasons, but the top ones include: 1) Peter has great ideas himself based on his experience with all the conditions of the property. However, he listens very well and incorporates client input into the end work without any of the ego that some contractors/designers may have when they work with you. He provides high level design drawings so you know exactly what you will be contracting for. In addition, the bid proposals are very detailed so that there is complete transparency from the time of bid through execution. 2) The entire team is prompt, friendly, and courteous. They show up when they say they will, they do what they say they will, and are always pleasant to speak with. During the construction, if there were any modifications to the original plan (and we had quite a few changes and additions), Peter and the team were sometimes implementing the changes within hours (if not minutes) of the discussions. One example is when we said we decided to add a shed when the project was about 80% done. We showed him where we wanted it and the size it would be. When we came home from picking out the shed 3 hours later, the site was leveled and gravel had been laid. Another example is that during the tree removal phase, we were discussing one tree that we thought we were keeping, but then decided against. Before we could go back into the house, his team was already removing it! 3) The quality of the work exceeded our high expectations. Everything was done meticulously, in preparation, construction, and finishing. The team often goes above and beyond to make sure that we are completely satisfied - there doesn't appear to be anything that they cannot make happen if you ask them. 4) The project came in on budget, and when there were changes for things we did not need, the price was even reduced. In addition, the work was done on time, with some extensions only for the additions we requested. 5) As a bonus, they have great reputations with all the other contractors and suppliers you need to deal with to have a successful project (quarry, tree removal, landscaping, lighting, irrigation, etc.). The other companies respect Starr Contracting so much, that they found a way to squeeze us in when they were needed, even if they were fully booked doing other things. We wouldn't even need to call, Peter handled it all. In addition, he worked well with the contractors that we hired. He would be there when the others showed up to make sure the entire project was coordinated, and even though this was additional work he did not charge us for it as he takes pride in the overall property - like it was his own. As we were out of town quite often during the construction, this was a tremendous help and we are very grateful. We look forward to working with him on another project soon.

We had a unique challenge, we had torn off an old deck that connected to our raised porch. We knew we wanted a fireplace, patio and stone walls but with a family member who is in a wheelchair we also wanted to make it all aesthetically accessible. Peter came up with a very creative idea that we had never even considered, Starr Contracting used stone walls and designed a gradual slope into the patio that brings the patio directly up to the porch level. No need for decks, steps or ramps, looks beautiful and we just love it. Peter and his team were very easy to work with and very flexible as we made multiple changes during the project. Even with all these changes, Peter worked with us to bring the project in on time and right on target of our budget. From start to finish every aspect of working with Starr Contracting was professional yet Peter and his entire team make you feel like you are long time friends. We would highly recommend Starr Contracting.

Peter designed and built a deck, patio and screened in porch for us. He worked with us on the design, doing several revisions to incorporate our suggestions, and guiding us on the best floorplan layout and materials. He was organized and a good communicator. His employees were respectful, efficient, and worked cleanly. The finished product turned out absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to use it this spring! I highly recommend Starr Contracting.

In 2011 we had a wooden pool patio completely replaced by Starr Contracting with a 1600 sf paving stone patio. The work included complete design and layout of landings, steps ,fire pit, retaining walls, stairs , pool coping , planter beds and a complete lighting package. The initial quote provided was complete with changes we requested during construction negotiated reasonably. Other contractors could not meet our design request nor our schedule. They said it could not be done. The work was completed right on schedule, neat and orderly right down to final topsoil and seeding. Peter has some great pictures that I hope he will post. Anyone who wants to see the great work must make the request through Starr Contracting . We would be happy to show how well it is holding up. It looks as well today as the day they finished construction.

Starr Contracting did an excellent job on our patio, which included a stone fireplace and grill counter with a built-in bar. Peter understood just what we wanted, and patiently drew beautifully detailed layouts to make sure we were all on the same page with the final design. The crew was quick and talented, and the worksite was always carefully cleaned each evening. The entire process exceeded our expectations and we would recommend Starr Contracting wholeheartedly.
