Xiomara and the team at Paredes-Grube were a pleasure to work with during the renovation of our turn-of-the-century home. We were specifically looking for an architect with experience preserving the charm of older houses, and several neighborhood recommendations pointed us directly to Xiomara. We felt we were in good hands from the initial consultation through the design process and the completion of the construction documents. Their recommended network of contractors and kitchen designers was excellent; the professionals we chose did such a beautiful job that we could not be happier with the result. At our initial consultation, Xiomara listened closely to our vision and asked insightful questions about our lifestyle and how we planned to use the renovated spaces. We truly appreciated the thoughtfulness of her approach and her focus on functional design. We iterated on concept drawings until we were happy with the proposed layout. At each step, Xiomara explained in detail why she designed things a certain way or why certain requests were not feasible or recommended. The flow of the house now makes perfect sense; the rooms were planned to maximize every square foot, even accounting for future furniture placement during the earliest design phases. The detailed design documents followed, including all side elevations, which we refined further. Xiomara and her team were always responsive to our revisions. They were knowledgeable about projected costs and town regulations, and they were incredibly patient as we explored every possible design option. As a result, we are confident that we ended up with the best possible design for our needs. One area for improvement—which may already be addressed for more recent clients—would be the inclusion of 3D renderings. While we worked primarily from 2D elevations, we believe 3D models would have helped us grasp the geometry of the additions more easily and allowed for even faster decision-making. Finally, the construction documents were completed without any major issues. When a few revisions became necessary due to unforeseen structural conditions and town official requests, the team delivered them with a very quick turnaround.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience working with Paredes-Grube on our home renovation in Fair Lawn. Our home was built in ~1940 and needed extensive updates on structure, plumbing, electric, etc., and as a result, our architectural plans were quite complicated and took many rounds of updates. Jeffrey (our architect) at Paredes-Grube was incredibly patient and took care to understand our vision and needs. Fast forward to the end of our renovation, and we couldn't be happier with the end result! We will definitely work with Paredes-Grube on future home renovations!

We have used Paredes- Grube Architecture for two major renovations. Our 1920 house is literally about 80 percent rebuilt with their plans.For the first renovation we interviewed about 5 architects. Xiomara had the most functional and sensible ideas . She thought of things that the others totally missed. The second renovation required a very precise and difficult plan as we extended our basement and two floors above it. She was also really helpful to us in finding the right builder for the job. In both renovations she offered several contractors we could interview for the job. We had the best contractors to work with and each job was completed to our satisfaction. When you have great plans , it contributes immensely to achieving superior results. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this architectural firm to anyone. While the price of service may be higher than other places, the quality you pay for is assured. The best to work with , and go through a process with no hiccups.

The team did an amazing job designing our addition to flow seamlessly with our 1940’s Tudor, keeping its classic character. Functionally, our home has improved tremendously thanks to their ideas and vision. We get so many compliments from neighbors and are beyond pleased with the results!

Xiomara and team were just what we needed for our 1920s Tudor remodel. We had a goal of keeping the authentic details, nooks and crannies, while building addition and opening up floor plan. Team provided valuable feedback to our “wants” and turned it into “needs” that fit flawlessly into the original footprint. They were attentive to our questions and made the adjustments as needed. The process of engagement with team was vey straight forward (just like described on the site) with timely updates and communication. Plans were detailed and specs easy to understand. Tudor details were added to match existing brackets and overhangs, half-timber details on the new addition made it look like it was always there, seamlessly blending into existing structure while keeping overall “traditional” neighborhood feel. Once it was finished – it turned out even better than expected! We greatly appreciate Xiomara’s professional expertise and historical knowledge that made our project a huge success.

Xiomara and her team were fantastic to work with, from start to finish. They were always completely professional, and accurate with their projections of timelines, deliverables, and expectations. And she was upfront and honest when things could not be done. This team is phenomenal. After a tree crushed our garage we hired Paredes-grube to design our new garage as well as a patio/fireplace outdoor living space. We have a very complex property so this involved applying for variances and many steps to have this approved. Xiomara and her staff provided professional knowledge and so much attention to detail to help us through this process. I have worked with Xiomara on 2 large projects. She designed a large 3 story addition in 2014 for me and then came back in 2021 for a full kitchen remodel/addition. Her and her team's work is excellent. She was able to handle a tricky beam situation such that the design looks like we designed this way on purpose. She ensured that the addition was properly scaled and designed in such a way as to avoid having to obtain a variance. The additions are in keeping with the rest of the 100 year old house - she was able to seamlessly integrate new with old so it is not obvious what is original and what is not. I recommend Xiomara and team with no reservations.

Xiomara is a treasure! She went through our very old and weirdly laid out home and figured out how to make the most of the space. It feels like we got a whole new second floor, without adding on anything to the house. She and her staff are very responsive, lovely, and warm. Even though our job was on the smaller side for Xiomara, she treated it as though it was just as important as a big job.

Xiomara was a pleasure to work with. We did a gut renovation of our basement, dining room, kitchen, mud room, second floor bathrooms, and re-design of the second floor hallway and a bedroom to provide for a second floor laundry room. Xiomara listened to our daily routines and how we used space and came up with solutions that we had not thought of, such as swapping the locations of the kitchen and dining room. The designs worked out very well.

We are now living in our beautiful home and are so appreciative of the time, patience, effort, and care they put into our design. Xiomara is so professional as suggested things that I never would have thought of. Jeffrey was able to make my revisions and Pinterest dreams (and lots of emails) a reality! Our town's building department is not the easiest to work with and they helped me move the process along. I can't wait for them to come see the finished project and thank them in person. If we ever do another project (which I hope we do) they will be designing it!

I loved working with Xiomara (and Jeffrey) every step of the way! She took our older split level and put on a huge addition on with a glamorous master suite, helped us add a second extra large attached garage, built a mudroom, moved the laundry room, and update every room in our home. At our first meeting we talked about our street and my hopes for our home. She made a dream come true when she helped us build a beautiful front porch. I didn’t want my house to look like every other new build and she understood that from the first meeting! We plan to be in our home for many many years and she took our house and made it our home! We hired Xiomara and her team to design a renovation in the second floor or our house. It was a challenging project because there wasn't much room to work with, but Xiomara created a very creative design for a bathroom and hallway that more than fit our needs. Moreover, the design flows beautifully with the general architecture of the house, so that people who come here have told me that they wouldn't have guessed it was a renovation. Her team is very knowledgeable and she has a great reputation with contractors. We also thought that their services were very reasonable for the quality of their work. We just finished an addition to our home fully designed by Xiomara and we couldn't be happier. She not only solved the problem of real steep and dangerous stairways to the third floor (where we have our master space) but also added a much-needed social area powder room and a spectacular mudroom. Paredes-Grube designed an addition to our 1930's Dutch-Colonial home. Xiomara, the principal architect, was wonderful to work with. Her ideas about space, especially in terms of how the flow of a busy family home should work, were insightful. Most importantly for us, the new space (kitchen, family room, mudroom, and master bed/bath on second floor) seems to blend perfectly with the old. Fantastic person. He and his subcontractors did excellent work. They were always on time. They did as they said they would. They were neat courteous and did such a fantastic job some neighbors even stopped to get their telephone numbers. Prices were quite reasonable. They did everything they said they were going to do. Xiomara and team completed the design for our project - a 3 story addition to our 1920's home.
