Rising Sun completed an intricate project this year on our home. They built a beautiful, very large porch on the front of our home. Curb appeal was of utmost importance and quality of workmanship was paramount. I must say that Rising Sun accomplished all of this with ease and in a manner that made us feel comfortable with all that was going on. Their focus was about us and our project. I really enjoyed working with Rising Sun. They were really focused on the outcome of our project and quickly resolved any issues with ease, in a quality, timely and professional manner. Chris Bailey and Rising Sun Construction had previously some work for family so we contacted them for a large project to design and construct our dream home. We decided to do this during the early period of the COVID pandemic so we expected there to be some challenges that would go above and beyond the usual difficulties of building a house. The design process was time consuming with many iterations of the floor plan before we ultimately landed on the final plans. One comment I have about that process was after the initial mockup the estimated cost was well over our discussed budget and we had to do some large alterations after spending a lot of time on that first floorplan, which added to the overall timeline by weeks. Once we were finished with (at least we thought) the architectural plans, construction began. The major hiccup during the foundation/framing part of the process was the fully below ground basement came in a foot shorter than specifications, and we felt that was a major change to the feel of that space and what we had planned for it. Ultimately it is still a great space for children to play, for television, and we added a workout room so in the end we feel good about what the basement became. We were also working with a wonderful interior designer Chris Coggins and Linden Lane Interiors based in Culpeper, VA. Together we all made some major changes to the floorplan on the main and upstairs levels to open up space and take advantage of bonus area above the garage. Ultimately we were very happy with the layout of the house and were excited for the next steps of the process. We were very also very pleased with the work the subcontractors Rising Sun selected to work on our house. The electrical team, the tile work (which was extensive), cabinetry and shelving, painters, landscapers, hardwood flooring, plumbing, concrete pouring, and the glass for bathrooms (although there were delays with this) were all great and very professional. Linden Lane helped us with selecting companies to supply beautiful countertops and a railing for the entryway stairwell. All pieces came together beautifully. Chris Bailey and Rising Sun was great not only with managing the overall project and the construction work, but also suggesting little flourishes in the design – one example being a skylight and fireplace in the new bonus space which really gave opened that room visually and made it superb. He and his team did beautiful trim work throughout the house. Our house was a large project and Rising Sun did an excellent job of bringing all the pieces together. Throughout the process we got to know Chris and team very well and got comfortable with him. We were very excited to move in we’ve been very happy ever since. And since that point Chris and Rising Sun has been very willing to come back out for any little outstanding items as well. Rising Sun built us a beautiful home and we are very happy with the results.

Chris Bailey and his team are true professionals. They use high quality materials and they get the job done in a timely and professional manner. Rising Sun remodeled a kitchen, powder room into a full-bath, and reconfigured the master bathroom and closet in 2018-2019 in my 1970s home in the Suncrest neighborhood of Morgantown. I wrapped in a portion of the cost into my mortgage and Chris was very patient in working with my bank and submitting the necessary paperwork. Some of this review is based on my experience with another, less expensive contractor for a phase three project. After my experience with the other contractor, I realized how truly lucky anyone is to be able to work with Rising Sun. It is more pricey, but the work is exceptional and totally worth the price. Once Rising Sun commits to a project, they keep on a tight schedule until it is completed. Chris inspects the work almost daily--on one occasion, I noticed there was a problem with the light placement in the kitchen ceiling. I texted Chris and he had already noticed it and had contacted the subcontractor to get it fixed. With my less expensive contractor, I had to constantly inspect everything and was dismayed at the poor quality of the materials. At my one year inspection with the work Rising Sun completed, there were very few issues (the thresholds had cracked, for example) and Rising Sun enthusiastically fixed these minor issues. I was extememly impressed with the subcontractors Rising Sun hires to do tile work, cabinetry, plumbing, painting, and dry wall. Chris is all about relationship-building with subcontractors and his clients. Even after the work was completed, I feel I can call Chris to brainstorm other projects and ask for recommendations for subcontractors. If you are fortunate enough to work with Rising Sun, it might be helpful to understand his process--you need to pay for architectural drawings for Chris to be able to give you a cost estimate for the job.

To say that having our new home built by Rising Sun was a terrible experience would be an astronomical understatement. No amount of words could describe just how awful our experience was. I have personally been in construction for 10 years as an IBEW electrician, I know how construction is supposed to go and how people should be treated. This company raked my wife and I over the coals for 15 MONTHS on a 1,478 square foot cabin style home. We were treated with disrespect from the owner, argued with, and ultimately have a bran new home that we are not happy with. To say Rising Sun performs shotty, poor quality work would once again be a huge understatement, not to mention they DO NOT stand behind their work. If you confront them about an issue they will argue, drag out the project, and the fix is just as bad, if not worse, than the original issue. We are living in the home and I am fixing things (what is fixable) as time and money allows. It will take a while to make the house what is should be. Again, no amount of words can really describe our experience. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. I am writing this review so that good people, like my wife and I, have a chance to NOT go through what we went through. Do your homework on contractors! There are good ones out there, I assure you this is not one of them.

Rising Sun is a truly remarkable design and construction team to work with. From the design process, through excavation and construction, and even follow-up, their team was thoughtful, caring, and extremely professional. We chose Rising Sun to build our home based upon the quality of work, attention to detail, and their uniqueness and craftsmanship. Oftentimes, Chris, or another member of the team, would make a creative suggestion that we would have never considered. These subtle recommendations added to the beauty of our finished product. The Rising Sun team was able to take the vision we had and create a home that was beyond our expectations. We receive compliment after compliment on our new home and have told several people how much we enjoyed working with Rising Sun, and how easy and stress-free they made the entire process. I would very highly recommend Rising Sun to anybody considering building or renovating a home.

Finding a builder that could construct a custom detached garage was tough. But when Chris came out to discuss project he seemed as excited as I was about the project. He seemed undaunted about the requirements - must have 12' ceilings, roofline below the existing garage, integrated appearance to the existing home, etc. Tyler did a great job in laying out a suitable plan to our needs and desires. The construction crew was first class... polite, concerned about our property and always alerted us to their schedule. The job site was always clean and in order. Dave (the project manager) always ensured there were no short cuts and construction standards exceeded. And the office staff (Lyndsie) always kept us informed on issues and schedules. If you are looking for a builder that will listen to your needs and build on time and on budget, consider Rising Sun Construction.

We chose Rising Sun for the design and construction of our new home after looking at multiple options. Whether during the design or construction phase, no detail was overlooked by Chris, Tyler, David, Lyndsie, and the entire Rising Sun crew. All were knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with and we recommend them to anyone.

We searched a long time to find a company to do our house renovation. In 2016 we decided on Rising Sun after we saw pictures on their website. From the beginning, it was evident that we made an excellent choice. The concept design incorporated our vision with Rising Sun's expertise to give us a vision of a project well beyond our imagination. Once construction began, we felt that Rising Sun listened to our concerns and welcomed any changes we needed to make along the way. The final outcome was spectacular. We felt like we got exactly what we wanted. The workmanship was outstanding. The beauty and quality of the construction went beyond our expectations.
