I called to get an estimate. I was told the fee was $350.00. When I mentioned I could not afford that, Shimon proceeded to tell me how many big , wonderful jobs he does ... and then hung up. Unprofessional.

Shimon and his team came in to look at my house that needed a kitchen upgrade, as well as rebuilding and increasing the size of the deck in our back yard. The moment Shimon first came for an estimate, he was actually listening to our needs and wants, offered options we loved in response, and communicated extremely well from start to finish of the project as a whole. That was impressive, as other contractors were just not like that unfortunately. Rotches Construction - clean, precise, and attention to details are a must for us, and they were able to deliver all of that in a timely manner! Thank you for the amazing quality work, we highly recommend them for a peace of mined in such important projects - a big decision made easy!!!

Shimi was there every step of the way with us during our renovation project. He understood our initial vision for what we wanted to accomplish and brought it all to life within our budget. We contracted Shimi to renovate two bathrooms, but he went above and beyond and lended his expertise and advice on various other projects we were working on around the house. He constantly was offering helpful suggestions and tips that were out of his scope because he genuinely cares about his clients and wants to build long-term trust. He takes his work seriously and is a hands-on contractor who likes to focus on the small details. He provided helpful updates throughout the process so we never felt out of the loop.

As first time homeowners we were nervous about our first renovation. Shimi put our minds at ease. He was flexible, reliable, trustworthy, and gave us really helpful advice every step of the way. We now have a peaceful master bathroom, that came out exactly as we envisioned.

Shimon was a pleasure to work with on our basement home gym project. His work is impeccable and he completed the project on time. Recommend him without reservation!

Shimi and his team did an incredible job installing a set of landscape steps and a stone patio in my backyard in the matter of just a few days. I was super impressed with his attention to detail and dedication to my vision for optimizing my outdoor space. Shimi and his team did a wonderful job on our Kitchen renovation, new Entry Porch and Boot Room. The work involved structural repairs and new rough carpentry and framing, plumbing, heating, electrical, exterior roofing, fine carpentry and finish work. All pieces were all done beautifully. We look forward to using Shimi Rotches Construction again!

If there was an opportunity to leave more stars, we would. We could not have been any happier with Shimi and his entire team. We met with Shimi and two other contractors for consideration of our renovation. Immediately it was clear that Shimi was our choice. While the other contractors were busy focusing on things we likely "couldn't do", Shimi gave us confidence with everything that we COULD do. Once we committed to working with Shimi, we knew we made the best decision. He and his team are so incredibly professional. They are kind, courteous and keep the cleanest project site. Shimi was extremely communicative and was always available for us when we needed him. Whenever we came upon an issue with the house (it was built in 1825, so there are bound to be issues) he immediately found the solution. Best of all, he actually came in just BELOW budget! Shimon Rotches of Shimon Rotches Construction is a pleasure to deal with. Our project was to reconstruct and refinish our old ugly fireplace. He did an amazing job of making our vision come true. He kept us informed the whole way, and always showed up when he said he would. I would definitely use him again for other projects.

I would leave six stars if they were available. Shimi and his workers – sometimes five or six at a time – were meticulous and expert craftsmen, unfailingly considerate and careful. We wanted to find quality work at a fair price, and Shimi more than delivered. This was not an easy project either, because it changed as it went along and became still more complicated because of a major problem Shimi discovered during the work. I will summarize the entire project to give some idea of what was involved. We hired Shimon Rotches Construction after reading the reviews on Houzz. Our goals was to expand or possibly rebuild an aging wooden deck at our home in Pittsfield. Shimi came twice to examine the deck that was in place and was probably built on different occasions over the last forty years by previous owners of the house. We explained that we wanted to increase the depth of the deck by about four feet. After examining what was in place, he discouraged us from doing an add-on because there were reasons to doubt the solidity of what was there. We ultimately decided to rebuild from scratch. But Shimi cautioned us that because our land had a considerable number of boulders he could not be absolutely certain about the final dimensions because of some concern about creating the proper footing. In addition, he didn’t like the look of the underside of the house where the deck was joined, but would not know until the current deck was completely removed. As it turned out, once the existing deck was demolished, it was clear that we were going to need to do something about the foundation support for the house itself. The deck abutted a porch room that was an add-on to the house, and the supports for that add-on were inadequate. Wood had dry-rot, cement block foundations were skewed and detaching, the footing was not deep enough, and it was necessary to see more of what lay underneath. This became a second project. Shimi was ultra-cautious, consulting with an engineer and then supporting the porch room with three jacks as he removed the footing that was there, coated the underside of the porch room with insulation, built supports, and worked with us to choose the best type of footing to permanently support the entire back room. This delayed our deck, but was absolutely necessary. At every point we were explained various possibilities. Once it was complete the deck was begun. But it was uncertain what materials we were going to use. We went to the supplier Shimi uses and selected TimerTech Azec decking. We also came up with an idea for a border. And we chose a railing that we liked (builder’s rail, I believe it was called). It turns out that we had unerringly chosen some of the most expensive alternatives, so we had to renegotiate the price of the deck and payment terms. Even that did not cause unexpected problems. And the railing turned out to be a construction job in itself. We ended up spending more than we expected but we knew that was because of what we wanted or what we needed. We were not paying for office overhead or automatic markups, and we saw the nature of the work on a day to day basis (and when we were away, Shimi kept us closely informed). We are looking forward to future projects!!
