I’ve known Ruthie Staalsen for almost forty years, and have always admired her sense of style, but it was only recently that I had the privilege of working with her professionally. Over the last two years, she assisted me with two projects: a smaller game room renovation and a renovation of the main living spaces downstairs. Given that I live in Houston and she lives in the Dallas area, we planned both projects via Zoom and phone calls. Upstairs, Ruthie helped me figure out my game room's new layout, as well as choose paint, furniture, and decor. Downstairs, she helped with all that and more, updating the space with cool design elements like wallpaper and lighting. I especially loved her redesign of my fireplace mantel and an awkward desk in my kitchen; somehow, she turned the latter into a sleek area with a display shelf and big storage drawers that we love! Always attentive to your needs and style, Ruthie willingly listens to your likes and dislikes. She'll give you design ideas, but you will not hurt her feelings if you don’t care for them. At the end of the day, her goal is for you to be delighted with your home. Ruthie is a beautiful soul, inside and out. In November of 2023 a storm came through our neighborhood crashing our backyard oak tree into our house destroying our deck and patio. Ruthie helped us choose decking material to rebuild but the space was still empty and I was hosting out of town guests for Christmas 2024. Time for a patio re-do. Again I called Ruthie and she chose the perfect wicker furniture set and umbrella with LED lights that made the deck so comfy and cozy ; one wouldn’t notice the small size of the space . I had her team install it and the patio was ready to go for my holiday guests Everyone loved it and used it even though it was December . Ruthie proved that outdoor spaces can be used year round. Now a year later my daughter just bought her first house and she bought the same umbrella for her backyard patio. I so love our outdoor patio/ deck space thanks to Ruthie.

As our daughter-in-law had used Ruthie for remodeling her house, we were impressed enough to use her when we moved from our home to senior living. Ruthie visited our new home and our present one to judge her recommendations as to what would work best, preserving favorites. We had to wait for some remodeling and re-upholstering, but the event day arrived and we left boxes and clutter to return to the finished product. We were amazed at the transformation and four years later still love what she did and have not changed a thing. Visitors always have compliments. We have had some wear and tear repairs needed and Ruthie has the craftsmen to take care and return them to normal. Ruthie is an amazing designer who we have used twice, separated by a few years. The first was a relatively small project and when it was time for a major redo due to a water leak, we knew she would have great taste. Both times, she was easy to contact and have her come look at our project quickly. Most importantly for us, her design skills are so well honed that she can easily navigate combining both me and my husband's preferences, while making a fully functional space that looks fantastic and modern. She is skilled at both in-depth construction like kitchen renovations, and changing the look of your house with just furniture. She pays attention to small details (you will have somewhere to put your drink next to your sectional) and the big picture (modernizing a kitchen from the mid-90s without sacrificing the layout we liked). She always meets the timelines she sets as well.

Ruthie is fantastic to work with! Ruthie helped is for almost a full year on our home remodel in basically every area: Kitchen tile/island/cabinets, all bathrooms tile/cabinets/fixtures, paint colors and texture, beams, stairs, floors, windows, wallpaper, furniture, lighting, exterior pergola/fireplace/outdoor kitchen. One of Ruthie's best qualities is her personality! Ruthie is so easy going, fun to work with and makes the process completely enjoyable. Ruthie quickly learned our respective styles and was able to make recommendations that fit those styles. But she also helped us stretch our comfort zones! I was looking for a designer to spend a couple of hours walking through my house and giving me recommendations for each room to give me a more complete, pulled together look. I didn't necessarily need to completely redo any one room, however I wanted a designer's eye as far as changing out certain pieces and recommendations for items to add to give me that pulled together, designed look. Ruthie came in, listened to what I wanted as we walked through the rooms I wanted to focus on. Then we went one by one to each room and she offered very simple, practical and cost-effective recommendations. I took notes while she quickly pulled up photos of the design ideas she recommended on her ipad, and dropped them in an idea book. She sent me the link later that same day, along with emailing me some photos of inspiration items, so that I can go at my own pace in making updates. I found Ruthie to be very professional and talented. I appreciated her respecting my design style, yet offering her professional opinion and specific recommendations. I recently worked with Ruthie to get some new ideas on how to turn my guest room into a home office that is functional for work and hanging out. Ruthie Staalsen is a treasure trove of ideas for decorating and design. If you are contemplating doing a renovation or even a room make over, call Ruthie. You won't regret it. We decided to do a home renovation to remove the 80's look of dark paneling and compartmentalized spaces. Do due a COVID shut down our reno was extended to about a year. Ruthie stayed with us through the entire process until the end. She completely redesigned our master bath and kitchen along with the other rooms, choosing paint colors, lighting, tile and wood flooring. Even though it wasn't what we would have chosen Ruthie has a beautiful classic style. There are so many things we love about our new house. Ruthie shops economically and I love that she uses Amazon for many of her elements. I love the fact that she offers a variety of services. After we finished the reno, the rooms were empty and the walls blank. Ruthie created an idea book in Houzz that I could look at for decor, allowing me to have a plan for each room. I love to shop but I don't know what to buy and where to put it. She helped my fear and anxiety when decorating. My husband was hesitant about doing a renovation but he has said several times how much he LOVES our house and is proud to show everyone. It is contemporary, comfortable and classic. We could not have done it without Ruthie Staalsen.

Ruthie recently completed the interior design of our transitional home. Having traveled widely, we had several art pieces from across the world that we wanted to retain and integrate into the design. Ruthie added some wonderful pieces to the mix, and brought an incredible vibe to the family and dining rooms. The colors and textures that she incorporated into her designs were amazing, blending modern touches with ethnic Morrocan and Egyptian designs. Ruthie is amazing!!! She came to our home 3 years ago for a 2 hour consultation before we started our kitchen remodel. We are in the process of building our dream home, and were at a point where we needed guidance on paint colors for both the interior and exterior of our home. We had some colors in mind and wanted some help from an expert to see if we were going in the right direction. We decided to give Ruthie a call based on the reviews on Houzz. Calling her was the best decision!!! Money is very tight at this point so we only did the 2 hour walk through service. It was worth every penny! We wish we could hire her as our personal designer for the whole house. Her color suggestions were total opposite of what we thought we would go with, and some made us a bit nervous because they were so bold (at least in our mind...Lol). She was spot on and we are very happy with her suggestions. Painting is going on as we speak, and as the various colors are going on, we see it all coming together and becoming a warm and welcoming home! Ruthie Staalsen Interiors did a fantastic job on my house. For my living room she used my couch, loveseat and chair and added just the right amount of color and decor to it look like a room you see in a magazine! For my dinning area she replaced my chandelier and redid the decor on the wall and added a centerpiece to the table. What a difference that made! I am very happy with the work that Ruthie did for me and definitely plan on using her again for the bedrooms. She turned my house into a home!

I've never worked with an interior designer before and was a little intimidated but knew I needed some help. Ruthie Staalsen was amazing- she is professional and easy to connect with. I had Ruthie come do a Walk Through/Consultation. She gave me some creative ideas, suggested paint colors and helped me see new possibilities without doing a major overhaul. She's there if I need to run ideas by her, but she empowered me to freshen up my house within my budget. I know she does high end wonderful stuff- but she met me where I was and I really appreciated that.

We hired Ruthie to help us with a remodel of our entry-way, kitchen, and family room / den. She not only accomplished some jaw-dropping transformations of these spaces, but helped us with a few updates in other areas, as well, to achieve an overall cohesive refresh of our first floor. It's like a whole new house! She opened up the kitchen area immensely by removing a pillar and gave the room some real character by adding the open beam between the kitchen/breakfast room. She added a sliding barn-door, with a chic herringbone pattern, to give us the option of closing off our music room. New paint everywhere, painted stairs, and a gorgeous stair runner brightened up the entry way and new light fixtures in every room helped us move from "dated" to "on trend." She really listened to us and was able to use a lot of our favorite pieces in the final design... making the finished product very personal. The "reveal" on install day was nothing short of magnificent. I felt like I was the star of a show on HGTV, so surprised and delighted at the final product. I just couldn't believe it was OUR HOME!!!

It is some of the best money we've spent in terms of the concrete ideas she shared with us, the money she saved us, and also with her recommendation of a general contractor. Throughout the process, we felt we were treated professionally, and our home was treated with respect. We took her ideas and fleshed them out to suit our budget and personal tastes, making this home truly ours. We couldn't be happier with the result. Everyone who sees it says our home looks brand new! My husband and I initially hired Ruthie to consult on remodeling our kitchen and living room. We didn't even have a contractor yet. Our home was built in 1972 and the kitchen was really a disaster. We had old tile throughout, low ceilings, old appliances and cabinets that had been repainted many many times. We have four kids, so we wanted to open up the kitchen more to our living room and create a central meeting place where everyone could be together. Our home was also very dark. Although we had tons of windows, the low ceilings really blocked the light from coming through. I had a vision of how I wanted the finished product to look, but Ruthie gave my husband and I suggestions we wouldn't even have thought of. Her advice was fantastic. We ended up hiring her as a full time consultant (not as the lead project manager) and ended up using her contractor as well (Thomas Olguin). I will never use another designer or contractor on future remodels of my home. Ruthie, Tommy and his crew from start to finish were absolutely fantastic, professional, detailed and I just couldn't be happier with the finished product. If you're ever looking to spend money on a big or small project, Ruthie is affordable and can adjust to what you're looking for. I even had her help me shop for furniture after the finished project. We have our own general contractors to do our major home remodeling project. But we hired Ruthie to do a two-hour walk through before we finalized the plan. Ruthie with DecRenew has done an amazing job for 121 Community Church in regards to decorating our building for Christmas for multiple times. The decor and atmosphere in our building and worship center has made a huge difference after Ruthie got involved! I started trying to redecorate our master bedroom and was pleased with the color that the walls had been painted and with my choice of an upholstered headboard but after returning 6 different quilts/coverlets that just never seemed right, I knew that I needed help. We needed curtains to replace the window treatments and due to size, they were going to need to be custom. I couldn't afford to go wrong on the custom curtains (remember, I had returned 6 coverlets). I had never utilized the services of a professional before and so was nervous about the process. DecRenew Interiors made the process so easy. I met with Ruthie Staalsen at my home. She was very mindful of how much I wanted to spend offering a spectrum of services from assisting me on a consultative basis to having her team handle 100% of the project and everything in between. I decided to let her team handle the entire project. My husbands only request for the room was for the drapery to block out the light from the windows and half moon glass so that he could have an afternoon nap! I had my great grandmothers rocking chair which was over 100 years old that needed to be restored and I wanted to incorporate into the room so that I could rock my grand daughter. Ruthie spent some time looking through bedrooms that I had pinned on Pintrest to get an idea of the look that I was drawn to and we discussed specifics such as our need for pet and kid friendly (washable) bedding. It needed to be beautiful and functional! We discussed how much I wanted to be involved in the selection process which for me was just approving the patterns for the drapes and coverlet but I left the rest of the design and selection to her team. The day of installation, I went to work. When they were done, I came home and Ruthie "revealed" our bedroom (just like an HGTV show) and words cannot describe the transformation. The room was everything that we had asked for and more! My husband was ecstatic over the solution to the windows and the ability to darken the room (including the covering for the half moon window that had annoyed him for so many years). My rocking chair was restored and recovered to match the drapery, a beautiful and functional storage bench had been added which also served to store my grand daughters toys and diapers, new nightstands, bedding, and wall decorations. The team shopped through my house and selected items that I already owned to decorate some of the bedroom pulling it together with new lamps, and other items that they had purchased to make sure that the room still had a familiar feel to us. I absolutely would recommend DecRenew Interiors to anyone looking to redecorate or refresh a room or an entire house (especially for those of us that know what we like but can never seem to pull it off by ourselves)!! Ruthie did a "walk-thru" with me and I found it amazingly helpful. We've lived in this home for about 13 years and done remodeling along the way, so I was happy with the way a lot of my house looked. But I was looking for a little guidance on ways to update some areas and finally give the entire house a finished, pulled together look. She walked with me from room to room and offered ideas and advice on paint color choices, rearranging the furniture and accessories I already have, how to rework some furnishings I owned to make them better in the space as well as ideas on pieces I might want to add. Ruthie came up with a design plan that met my needs for storage and beautifully updated a small bathroom in a 47 year old house that still looked like it belonged in a house that age. My husband and I have been compiling remodeling ideas for several years. We have lived in our home for 13+ years and have done occasional remodels/upgrades. Ruthie of DecRenew Interiors designed all the stage and room decor for our church's annual women's retreat this year. Our theme was "All Things New" so her entire vision was driven by the idea of taking old things and making them new again. Every single piece that she used was so creatively inspired. I believe that Ruthie's biggest strength is her ability to create something from scratch versus just copying something she has seen somewhere else. She is able to see what something CAN be versus just assuming something is worthless just because it is old or even beat up. So, of course, when it was time for ideas about the outdoor living space, we called her. We hired DecRenew Interiors (Ruthie Staalsen) to do a walk through of each area of our home, suggesting ways we could update and restyle areas of our home. She was wonderfully creative and full of many exciting ideas. We liked her ideas so much that we had her create a design plan for us of three rooms, for an additional fee, which was affordable and very helpful. The plan included color swatches of paints, suggested fabrics, furniture, paint treatments, accessories, and things we discussed, all arranged on a photograph of these rooms as they might look when complete. She presented her ideas electronically, and then we received a color printed plan to keep as a guide. We were given the choice of using her idea plan on our own to find the items or similar pieces to do the work ourselves, or we could have her do a more detailed plan/bid to see how much everything would cost to have Ruthie do all the work for us. Ruthie was fun to work with. She has a friendly and cheerful personality that many would feel comfortable with. She was able to 'nail it' in picking out styles and colors we would like, and I was so impressed. Everything she picked worked well together, and everything complemented other rooms of the house. In the end, we had Ruthie do a full bid for us. I would have loved to use her to do everything she bid, but we decided to conserve money and use the plan she created to try to do some of the work on our own. We built a new Queen Anne Victorian bed and breakfast home, (15,000 square feet under roof with porches, decks, etc.) wanting it to look like one built 100 years ago. Many decorators are only comfortable using new things, with modern details. Ruthie loves re-purposing vintage items, so her ideas adapt to whatever type of house she's decorating. She worked with us throughout the house. The parlor was OK, but not at all welcoming. She added a large rug, rearranged the furniture, and using other things which we already had, made it warm and inviting. Our master bedroom was very "ho-hum." Her choice of fabrics for the comforter and round log-shaped pillow were outstanding. We already had a striped fabric covering the top of the cedar chest, and another fabric on a chair and chaise. We are very happy with the result. We needed some bedside lamps. She chose ones from an online supplier and suggested we purchase them - great choice for color, size and height, with no mark-up by her ordering them then selling to us. She also found a pair of vintage lamps for our library. One of our guest rooms "just didn't work." She suggested moving the bed to another wall. We had a Victorian shelf which we installed over the bed, then she chose a sheer creamy fabric to drape from that. Being older, we have very definite ideas of how we want rooms to look. Ruthie never "bulldozes" like some of the designers you see on TV. Her philosophy is to use things the home owner has and loves, saving a great deal of money. She is such a delightful person, I thoroughly enjoyed working with her, and will again soon.

I hired Ruthie Staalsen of DecRenew Interiors in the summer 2012 to update my downstairs living areas. I really had no idea what I wanted to do but I knew I wanted a change. Ruthie started by getting to know me and how our family lived. From there, she came up with lots of different ideas and options that worked for me and within my budget. This job included new paint for walls and some existing furniture, new drapes, a few new furniture pieces and some reupholstered, new lighting and lots of accent pieces. What was such a nice surprise was that she was able and willing to incorporate many pieces I already had by simply adding some paint or moving the item into a different room. DecRenew uses very professional and reliable contractors and I was very comfortable having them in my home. My entire family is delighted with the finished look and how simple and unobtrusive the whole process was. Ruthie is a breath of fresh air and I am looking forward to working with her again this summer to continue updating some of my upstairs areas.

Ruthie at DecRenew Interiors is an amazing decorator. I spent a lot of time researching decorators in the Dallas area. We moved into our new home from Austin, Texas and wanted something special- elegant with a "comfy" feeling without spending a lot of money. I interviewed several decorators before I decided on Ruthie. Ruthie exceeded our expectations. She met with us, got to know what we wanted and then made color scheme suggestions for our home. We loved every suggestion she made! She then used A LOT of what I already had in our home, added a few new accessories and made our home very warm and comfortable with an elegant interior. We LOVE what she did. YOu cannot g wrong with DecRenew Interiors! They are courteous, respectful, professional, budget conscious, and have ideas we never would have thought of.

Ruthie is an artist! She can take you from drab to fab in a half day's time. She is great at choosing your paint palette and she has redecorated our main entertaining area in our home as well as our reception area at our office.

Ruthie at DecRenew is amazing! We met her 8-9 years ago and she transformed our newly married and messy home into a showcase with a limited budget. She turned our Victorian Roses and Swords/African Jungle motif into a home we absolutely loved. When we moved again, 3 years ago, we had her do a walk through to help us. There are no words to sufficiently review the joyful experience of getting to work with Ruthie. She walked us through a huge remodel, offering such insight & expertise. Ruthie has an extraordinary talent for transforming spaces, and made the entire process enjoyable— from beginning to end! I am still in complete disbelief of the install she did on our entire downstairs, using our items with a few new things. It doesn’t even look like my house. I simply cannot recommend her highly enough!!!
