Scroggs Construction built our retirement home. We were looking for a builder with CAPS (Certified Aging-in-Place) qualifications. One online meeting with the Scroggs team convinced us we had the right people.
Scroggs is a design-build firm. Their designers draw up plans, considering your needs and the features of the site itself (they can work with an existing plan, but design-build is ideal.) The Scroggs team took a trip to assess the sites we were considering; their advice was invaluable. Once we bought the land the lead designer spent time at the site considering how best to fit our home on it. He pored over the HOA guidelines and tailored the plans and the HOA application to them. Our application was quickly approved, and the architectural review committee said it was one of the most thorough applications they’d ever received. He designed us a beautiful and functional home.
These are quality people. Matt is personable and knowledgeable, thorough in the areas of building that are less tangible than just the visible final product: site preparation, foundation, and drainage. When things didn’t go as expected Matt brainstormed solutions, and he didn’t accept sub-par work. Kevin, our project manager, worked well with everyone and kept a good humor and a positive, can-do attitude, even when circumstances got frustrating. He was a good problem-solver, patient, and addressed all our questions and concerns without minimizing them or talking down to us. Nick was quick to get back to us and organized. We appreciated his detailed monthly financial documentation.
We are delighted with the craftmanship in our new home. Scroggs is focused on quality. There were no shortcuts taken to get the job done quicker or cheaper at the expense of quality. Scroggs met the predicted timetable AND the project came in well below the top end of the budget range. With so many moving parts and subcontractors, there were times the timetable could have been derailed, such as when a grader did not show up, when Duke Energy struggled to provide a transformer box, and when the local well-drillers were backed up for months post-COVID. But Scroggs bulldogged solutions and managed to make it work.
There is a warranty on the build that lasts a year from the receipt of the certificate of occupancy. We had things that needed to be adjusted, sometimes just explained. Troy, the team member responsible for coordinating warranty repairs, stayed on top of the process, while being very patient with us. We appreciated the opportunity to tweak things and get them just right.
We are thrilled with the quality of our new house. We appreciate Scroggs’ attention to detail every step of the way, and we feel the value of our home is commensurate with the time, money, and effort that went into it. We felt, throughout the project, that we were in good hands with Scroggs, and the results are proof that we were. If we had to do this all over again, we would do it with Scroggs.
