About Us

Hi, thanks for checking us out! We are one of the areas oldest families of contractors. My Ancestors built Shafer's Schoolhouse in Monroe County in 1829, and we have been building ever since. My great-grandfather built many homes on Center Street in Bethlehem after WWI. And I have been Building for over 20 years. Check out our website and Facebook page to see some of our current projects. We are long standing members of the Lehigh Valley Builders association, the PA Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders. We are also listed with the National Fire Protection Agency and the Better Business Bureau. We are a registered tax paying business in the City of Bethlehem and insured by Erie Insurance. We are a licensed PA contractor, and licensed electricians. About 90% of our work is customer referral and word-of-mouth, we do not advertise. Because of this, we are very selective of our customers. There is a special relationship between the homeowner and the contractor that is very important to a good remodeling project. Communication and detailed contracts reduce the headaches and turmoil some people complain about with other contractors. We try to work on one job at a time, then move on to the next one, because of this, we are usually booked several months in advance. We worked with Bill and his team this year during the pandemic and they were wonderful! They built an addition to house an endless pool and an expanded kitchen and bath. The end result is a beautiful kitchen that makes me smile every single morning, and a wonderful pool area which my husband has used every day since it was installed. Bill and his team were wonderful at working with the pool contractor. I love this team so much I just asked him to build me a deck next year.

We hired Bill to put a in-law suite on our daughters house. Due to the nature of this project Bill found a creative solution that solved our needs now and in future. I have Parkinson’s and will have special needs and Bill had some designs that will grow grow with us. Not only did we add a suite we expanded her house by adding additional bedrooms, storage, bath rooms and a cellar. Bill was great to work with and provided weekly updates. Bill met his schedule with no delay. The quality of his work and some of his subcontractors was above par. I highly recommend Bill to anyone looking to build an new home or make changes to your existing home. Bill provides quality construction solutions as well as creative solutions all to meet your needs.

We worked with Shafer Construction on a project that transformed the second floor of our 140 year old house. We remodeled an existing bathroom and added a second full bath with a laundry nook. We couldn’t be more pleased with the work Bill and his team did for us. From the initial meeting to completion, Bill was on time for appointments, quick to respond to questions, and a clear communicator. The work itself was done beautifully and completed in a timely fashion. All of the contracted specialists were polite, friendly, and cleaned up well after each day’s work. As we were remodeling an old house, there were some surprises along the way, and Bill did his best to work with us in making plan changes that were not always the easiest or quickest, but he clearly wanted us to be satisfied with the results of our project. We plan to tackle the kitchen next, and we will definitely be reaching out to Shafer Construction when it’s time to get started.

Had two bathrooms renovated and gotta say Bill Shafer goes the extra mile for his customers. When there was a problem with a countertop not fitting properly, he made sure to get a replacement. He didn't just make do. Appreciated his patience with us and his advice. As a result, we changed our minds a couple times before work started, but the results were terrific! He put plastic down to protect the hardwood stairs/floors. It was just an overall good experience.

Bill did a great job remodeling our kitchen and family room. He and his subcontractors were on time, neat, and respectful working at our home. He was easy to get in touch with and answered all questions in a timely fashion. His prices are fair and when we wanted to add or change an item there was no extra fee. Bill was totally professional and was willing to give advice as needed. I would highly recommend Bill for any job you have and I would definitely use Shafer Construction again for a project we may have in the future.

It was so nice to come home and see everything complete. The bathroom is much bigger than I expected...and the windows now actually give more light than before, even though there is less total area. The woodwork is consistent with the rest of the house, so I don't get the sense that someone just throw some pre-fab add on. Really, that was a big concern of mine that the back porch would seem like some foreign new space. I don't feel like that at all. Lastly, the neighbors all seem quite impressed. Thank you for steering us to good, practical decisions throughout and handling the inevitable changes.

He only uses sub contractors that are as equally talented as he is. All deadlines were met, which was crucial to our business. For any job, small or large, Bill is the guy you want.

We hired Shafer Construction to design and build a Trex deck. From start to finish, Bill and his team were very professional. I was very specific as to what I wanted and could trust their expertise with design decisions. We really liked how they extended the platform on the top of each step and how they worked the deck around a large tree. They also installed the fascia boards vertically to align better to the curved surface of the ground below. We will definitely use Shafer Construction again and recommend him to our friends and family.

Ver polite and professional. Everything was finished and attended to in a timely manner. The work was unique and we really appreciated that Bill did the actual design on our 2000+ sf addition and made it look amazing with the existing 200 year old farm house! The crew cleaned up well each day. Any problems/concerns we had were addressed right away. Would def. recommend this company to anyone!!

In 2012 Bill Shafer created an award winning kitchen in my 200 year old farm house. The kitchen was in a sad state of neglect and Bill transformed it top to bottom: new tin ceiling was installed (no easy task in an older home, where very little is square) and the wide wood planks were brought back their former glory. All new custom cabinets and appliances were installed. New lightning and wiring was necessary. A dramatic center island top with a unique piece of granite, has become the gathering spot in our home. Work was completed in the time frame stated. The stated contracted price was accurate. Looking forward to working with them on future projects.
