I represented the seller on this investment property, and shortly after opening escrow, the tenants in one of the units gave notice that they would be vacating. Having lived in the unit for over ten years, it was clear the condo required updating in order to secure a new tenant quickly and at current market value. I contacted Art at Smart Building Group to request a quote. Art and Jessica responded promptly, visited the property, and provided a competitive estimate that was not only more favorable than another bid we received, but backed by the superior quality of work I had experienced with them previously. Once hired, their team worked efficiently—even through the holiday season—to complete the renovation and prepare the unit for lease. During escrow, the buyer also submitted a repair request that included a significant scope of work: a full re-roof, reconstruction of a wooden staircase to comply with new California requirements, and coordination of necessary city permits and inspections. Given the quality and professionalism demonstrated on the rental renovation, the seller confidently hired Smart Building Group to complete these additional repairs. Complicating matters, the seller was managing a health condition and had a firm deadline to close escrow, which placed added pressure on the timeline. Art and his team immediately prioritized the project, working diligently to meet the deadline without compromising quality. For the permitted work, Art and Jessica maintained consistent and clear communication with both the seller and myself, providing daily updates throughout the process. When an unexpected city office closure delayed a scheduled inspection and threatened our closing timeline, Art went above and beyond. By chance, he encountered the inspector in town and took the initiative to explain the urgency of our situation. As a result, the inspector graciously made an exception and completed the inspection in time for us to proceed toward closing. The scope of work on this property was substantial, spanning both a full unit remodel and extensive escrow-related repairs. Throughout it all, Smart Building Group demonstrated not only the expertise of a highly skilled general contracting team, but also integrity, responsiveness, and genuine care for their client. Smart Building Group - AMAZING on so many levels! In 2017, my family and I were away for a 3 week vacation , while we were away we had a slab leak that caused extreme damage to the walls, cabinets and flooring. My family had to move out due to the level of damage. The whole first floor of the house was RUINED, and had to be gutted; thankfully with the great work of Art and the rest of the Smart Building Group we were able to move back home in record time. Anyone going through such an ordeal would understand the level of stress, but thanks to Art, it was quickly put back together better than before. After months of searching and meeting with various contractors, we chose Smart Building Group because we consider Art to be highly experienced, knowledgeable, smart, easy to talk to and understanding. He was also very competitive in his pricing. We needed to have our kitchen completely renovated, the kitchen ceiling raised, a kitchen window and wall removed, a huge brick façade in front of our house repaired and our dryer vent rerouted to go through the attic to the outside. We had a difficult time finding a contractor who was able to do all these work correctly as well as not charge us an arm and a leg. We were thrilled to find Art who knew exactly how the work needed to be done and was very reasonable in his pricing. We were very nervous as this was our first time to do a home renovation. We were also very demanding as my husband had done house construction in the past. Art was very patient with us, always responsive to our needs and concerns, and focused on pleasing us. At the same time, he provided us with advice and guidance so we make the right decisions. A big plus is Art’s eye for beauty and knowledge of current trends. I can honestly say that Art and his team are one of the best group of guys to work with. They have always put out a great product that allows my work to shine. The team at SBG was wonderful to work with. They are knowledgeable, direct, and they stayed on the timeline we agreed to. The cabinets are of exceptional quality. I received several quotes and SBG was very competitive. I went with SBG for 2 reasons: 1. the craftsmanship of heir products and 2. the trust I had they were being honest and fair with me. They never tried to increase the project price. On the contrary, they guided me in ways that made sense in an effort to keep within a sensible budget. As I complicated the project, of course, I had to pay accordingly, but it was my choice, and was all worth it. I am so happy with my final results!!! When it's time for bathroom cabinets I will be back!

I hired Evan Grant and his crew to both gut renovate and extend a very special home I purchased for my family. We wanted to keep the exterior stone, build a new front section to house a circular staircase and expand the rear two stories to include a lower level living room and an upper level master bedroom. He worked very closely with our architect and the pictures speak for themselves. I highly recommend him.
