We recently built our dream vacation home on Martha's Vineyard. After interviewing several local architects, we chose to work with Sherman and Associates. Our project spanned approximately one year and we had the benefit of Sam's (as well as the full staff of Sherman and Associates) vast local knowledge to make this a seamless endeavor. Sam's knowledge of building in keeping with the island vernacular coupled with his discerning eye and exacting standards all added up to an extraordinary outcome. The entire staff at Sherman and Associates pitched in with the utmost professionalism to ensure that all deadlines were met. While we exceeded our initial budget, it was through design choices that we added along the way. Sam and his staff worked with us to find budget friendly ways to achieve everything we wanted. Sam and his team have strong ideas about what works and what doesn't but they are also willing to listen and yield to a client's tastes to deliver the most personal product possible. I would recommend Sherman and Associates without reservation and would absolutely work with them again should the opportunity arise.

Finding Sam Sherman and Associates was the best thing that happened to us in many years! Sam is simply amazing! We asked Sam to design a new house and redesign an existing house for us on a property we had just purchased. The process was made so easy because Sam is so creative and because he listens. He is very patient--and I think my husband tested his patience more than once! Sam had a vision for our property into which he was able to incorporate our many wishes. He is also highly regarded by members of local Boards and he shepherded our proposal through the various committees successfully. As part of the team, architectTom Carberry is also great to work with. The final products are quite wonderful. It was a great, exciting and fun process.

I hired Sam Sherman Associates to design a custom home for me on Edgartown Great Pond [EGP] in Edgartown, MA. We collaborated for several months on a design that met my needs and was a striking addition to the community of homes surrounding the EGP. The result was a gorgeous 5 bedroom home on the water with truly striking design features, both inside and out. Sam Sherman was very easy to work with and took care in addressing my needs and desires for me and my family. I recommend Sam Sherman Associates without reservation.

I used Sam Sherman twice. He is a very ethical man. His office staff is attentive and accommodating as is Sam. We were not on site during the projects and Sam had to often meet us on weekends when we could visit. He handled a very difficult approval process on the original house design and when we were denied he helped us move on from disappointment to a new design and ultimately a wonderful house. He helped us choose our builder and worked through the first project reviewing billing statements and over site on site. When we decided to enlarge the house Sam was able to marry the original house with an addition flawlessly. We retained him to act as over site if we needed him but since we used the same builder we did most of it ourselves but had the reassurance that Sam would be there if we needed him. He has a well earned reputation on the island which helps with inspectors and town officials. He is comfortable working on all sized homes and additions. He is forthright about his fees upfront and both projects came in on budget. The only reason I rate him with 4 stars is that I never rate anyone or thing as perfect....if I did he would get it. You would be smart to hire Sam Sherman Associates.

We hired Sam Sherman Associates to create our dream house from a rather ugly spec build on a patch of dirt. He created a beautiful home which looked like the farm house we had always wanted, and sited it in such a way to help us turn the patch of dirt into beautiful gardens. Sam was sensitive to our desires, while being forceful enough to help us realise not only what we wanted, but also what we needed. Now, 13 years later, we have hired him again to help us bring our home into the next phase of our family's life. It is always a pleasure working with him.

We hired Sam Sherman Associates, LLC to design a garage with a 1 bedroom apartment and renovate our existing home with an addition. Sam did an excellent job creating a new kitchen, dining room and den. The living room addition surrounded by three walls of windows with wrap around deck is stunning. The apartment over the garage is both beautiful and functional. In fact the garage apartment was showcased in the 2013 fall issue of Vineyard Style Magazine. The main house will be the cover and feature story of the summer issue. As an interior decorator it was a joy to work with Sam. He is very creative with unique ideas. However he is also willing to listen to his clients thoughts and opinions. Sam is conscious of budget when necessary. It was a very good experience working with Sam and his staff all of whom were great to work with. We highly recommend Sam Sherman Associates, LLC.

Over 30 years ago, early in his career, Sam Sherman worked on the design of the Chilmark home of our best friends. Our friends introduced us to the Vineyard, and were always very happy with the efficiency of their home and the excellent use of light. When we were able to purchase our own home on the island, Sam was our first choice as a designer, given the positive experience our friends had over the years. We purchased a dark, dingy home and did a near tear down of the existing structure. Sam saw what we did not see, that by reorienting the house we came away with incredible light and views. The design plan he provided not only gave us incredible views but the detail enabled the Contractor to bid the job to the penny. We needed a variance from the town to execute the plan and did not want to buy the house until we knew we could make the changes. Sam’s team dealt with the Edgartown planning board very effectively and efficiently to get the job approved in only 4 weeks. Because we are not full time residents of the island, we also had Sam run the contractor selection process and provide construction oversight. We have built a number of homes before but never have we been on budget and on schedule and never before have we been as pleased with the end result.
