Stephen Coan is an independent Garden Design Consultant Specialist. He’s an award-winning Garden & Landscape Designer, Horticulturist, Plantsman, Craftsman, Artist and Adventurer. He exclusively designs, consults, and installs bespoke nature inspired fine gardens & designed hardscapes that are timeless, memorable, and meaningful for the discerning Client using his extensive experience with native and beneficial plants creating unique novel plant communities. Stephen helps discerning clients who are frustrated with trying to find horticulturally knowledgeable design professionals that create significant, beautiful, and sustainable pollinator attracting and supporting gardens. Their properties are transformed from high maintenance, time consuming, and costly lawn environments into beautiful multi-layered, sustainable, and low-maintenance meaningful butterfly attracting habitat gardens created for each client’s unique gardens and landscapes. The Landscape designs that he creates to frame and support the gardens include hardscaping - patios, walkways, structures, fire pits, water features, fountains, ponds, lighting, etc. and problem-solving site services - water management, drainage, rain gardens, poor lighting, bad views, compaction, etc. Process: His design process starts with an in-depth consultation at the project site to review and discuss the clients' project. After they agree to work together an agreement is signed and the client receiving a copy of his book that describes the entire process and his comprehensive written questionnaire for them to fill out. The completed questionnaire enables him to get a full understanding and direction of the project to create his bespoke, ecologically guided, & nature inspired fine gardens and designed landscapes for each unique client. His unique garden solutions are one of a kind and site appropriate, reflecting the needs of each unique client’s gardens, and landscapes. The comprehensive design, prep, and installation process frequently takes several months to consult, design, plan, acquire estimates, plants, and materials, any needed permits, schedule construction, construction, construction consulting, planting bed prepping, on-site plant layout design, installation of the plants, followed by garden maintenance consulting. .
