We engaged TBS to do some major renovations at our lake home. They fully renovated our kitchen - taking down walls, creating an island, putting in all new cabinets and appliances, and new flooring. They gutted the Master bathroom and replaced everything in there. We had 5 large sliding glass doors replaced, one unique triangle window replaced and the front door replaced. They put down new flooring in the kitchen, dining room, master hallway and master bathroom. New lighting in kitchen and living room and painted the entire interior of the house. Jay and Lauren were the backbone of their team , helping us plan the renovations and getting the work accomplished. Lauren and her crew had to work around several snowfalls, a severe one of a kind ice storm and even a tornado warning. When any challenges came up because the house is 35+ years old, they developed a solution and presented the options to us. They were in constant communication since we were 3 hours away! The work was done professionally and looks fabulous! Their pricing was very reasonable . I would highly recommend them.

We engaged TBS to construct a roof over our existing deck. Jay collaborated with us to ensure the design harmonized with the back facade of our residence. Specifically, the roof’s pitch aligned appropriately with the other roof pitches of our house. We requested a specialized coating, Diamond Kote, applied to the primary support beams. This coating enhances the aesthetic appeal, contrasting with the bare painted wood. Throughout the construction process, the lead crew member, Dallas, diligently communicated any necessary modifications and consistently sought our approval. Daily, a thorough cleanup was conducted. Upon project completion, the crew meticulously cleared the area of their materials and any debris. We are exceedingly pleased with the porch roof and the ability to enjoy outdoor activities, even during inclement weather.

TBS Construction made the process of designing & building our barn enjoyable and painless. Great communication with the project managers Jay & Christiaan were regular and informative. The main building crew Gerald & Matt provided excellent explanations during the build process and paid attention to the details. We floundered our way through several contractors, budget, designs and yet TBS was the team who waited patiently, worked diligently on the budget and design, and ultimately won the job. Contracted TBS to add a third bay to our existing 2 car garage. This is the best building contractor I have hired. They have a well organized, experienced staff. They assigned specific people who were responsible for each phase of the project (design, estimating/proposal, procurement/material coordination, project manager, lead site carpenter and etc.). All these folks were very good at executing their roles and were readily available for email, phone or in person communication. Project pricing was very competitive and they closely met the promised schedule. The quality of the final product was also top notch.

Project: Renovate Sunroom from 19' L x 10' W to 34' L x 14' W Timeframe: Dec 2020 - Aug 2021, about 9 months. Objectives: • Add more living space with more windows to enhance view. • Replace dilapidated windows with rotten wood casements to Pella High Efficiency windows with built-in screens and shades. • Replace 1979 sliding glass doors with Pella High Efficiency sliding glass doors. • Add Mitsubishi Mini Split ductless HVAC wall-mounted unit to heat & cool expanded living area. • Replace tubular steel posts with stone-veneer columns. • Build small retaining wall to match stone-veneer columns and to secure lower deck gravel. • Replace upper and lower wood decks with zero-maintenance Trex decking. • Replace upper deck wood stairs with zero-maintenance Trex decking. • Replace upper and lower wood railings with Fortress Cable-V railing (black with vertical stainless-steel cables). • Re-grade landscape adjacent to lower deck so that rainwater flows away from house. • Add catch basin and drainpipe at end of driveway to divert rainwater away from house. • Add buried 4" drainpipe to carry gutter water away from lawn and into rock basin in nature areas. After meeting with TBS Construction President, Jay Gauldin, and his estimator in 2020 late summer, it was TBS's quote that was accepted out of three obtained. Jay impressed us with his focus on building customer relationships and the 17 years of experience that TBS had. All design and build objectives were met. The emphasis on customer relationships was carried on throughout the build with attentive early Project Coordination by Barry Bedwell and admirable Project Management by Deepraj Kahn. Particularly impressive was the ability to stay on budget after having to set the columns back 3' due to interference with the septic tank. Roof trusses and column footers had to be re-designed and new drawings had to be signed off. Also impressive was the ability to hold to the quote despite a COVID impacted 2021 that stifled material availability and raised material prices. Definitely a happy and satisfied customer. Two thumbs up to Jay and his TBS Team.

When I decided to do some extensive renovations on my home, I worked with 4 different contractors on the initial quoting. Although TBS was not the Lowest price, I was sold on them due to previous customer reviews and attention to detail in the quoting process. From the initial introductions to my team and throughout the 2.5 month project, I felt very comfortable with every TBS associate and all sub-contractors. Having experience in construction, it is expected to encounter a surprise or two on projects, new or old. While we had a few “hiccups” on my project, each time I heard “we’ve got this”, and they did. What I appreciate the most about TBS is their customer focus and commitment to customer satisfaction. I highly recommend this business and would hire them again for future Reno’s or new construction.

We updated our lake home with TBS including new flooring, bathroom remodel and kitchen update. We ran into several issues with product delays outside of TBS' control but they were so accommodating in working with us to make sure we didn't lose the summer to construction and figuring out how to complete the work while we still made use of the home. Their communication was great, they stuck to their original bid outside of changes I approved and they bill as work is completed in a straight forward way. I appreciate the partnership the team provided throughout the project.

Jay and his crew worked on a basement remodel and did a fantastic job from start to finish. They came out and provided an accurate quote including diagrams and a detailed description of the work to be completed. TBS was our builder for a sunroom/basement addition, basement remodel, and new deck. The initial contract process went smoothly and they were open to negotiations to meet my needs and budget. TBS’ price point was very comparable to other companies of their size. The contractors assigned to my project were always professional, careful, and did their best to minimize disruption since we were still living in the house. One thing that was much appreciated (though expected) was the respect all employees of TBS afforded to my wife throughout the process, especially since we have worked with other companies that were condescending towards women in the past. The payment process was a perk for me, since we were billed only for the work completed during the month and did not have to pre-pay. Not only did this make budgeting easier but it was very easy to correlate the work that was going on with what we were paying for. In addition, any problems we had were either resolved immediately or an acceptable solution was found. The work did take a bit longer than was originally scoped, but based on others’ experience in home renovation we went into the project with realistic expectations and ultimately the work was completed within the timeframe I thought it would be. Overall I recommend TBS, and will most likely use them for our next project in a few years.

My name is Bill Sibbick, 3 years ago I was President of Chatmoss CC in Martinsville, Va. While president I started a Capital Expenditure project. One of the major projects was replacing 10 outside doorways and a huge bay window on the front of the club. This job entailed removing and replacing doors, hardware (including emergency exit hardware) side lights and a very large Bay window. Jay's group was awesome to work with. The communication was excellent from the very start. I touched base with them during the project and they always updated as to what was going to be done next and what the time frame would be. The supervisor and all the workers were extremely conscientious in every facet of the job. I would highly recommend TBS for any construction needs. They were very professional and their quality of work was outstanding.

TBS did a wonderful job. We couldn’t be happier with the results of our attic renovation. They’ve added a whole floor of living space to our home. People say “quality only hurts once” but in this case quality was the best option from the beginning. We received quotes from 3 different contractors. We almost didn’t select TBS because it took them longer to provide a quote but when their quote came in it was among the best in price as well as timeline. The ultimate deciding factor that made us choose TBS for this project was their knowledge and foresight. TBS recognized the structural improvements that would be needed to support turning the attic into livable space. The project went smoothly for the most part with the typical bumps along the way. The project completed on-time and on-budget. I could stop there and say that’s all that matters but really, it’s not. Anytime you take on a project of this size, things will go wrong. It’s WHEN things go wrong that you will know whether you have chosen the right contractor. TBS had the same response every time the was a problem. They simply said, “We’ll take care of it” and then proceeded to do so. When it comes to hiring a contractor, character means everything. We are very glad we found TBS. One last note. We have an old house that creaks as you use the stairs and walk down the halls. We learned to tip toe like ninjas on steppingstones to avoid the waking the baby when we went past her room. Our house still squeaks and creaks everywhere … except for where TBS built.

They did some demo and then did framing, drywall, installation, trim, carpet and padding in a bi-level basement. They did a great job, cleaned up after each day’s work and always kept in the loop as to what was going on.

I was impressed that they were able to schedule my small project so quickly and complete it in such a professional and timely manner. The staff was very friendly, easy to work with and communicated effectively throughout the entire project. They always arrived when they said they would and were very knowledgeable and skilled in the work that they did. They were also very thorough in clean up at the end of each day and especially when the project was completed. I highly recommend TBS to anyone who has need for a contractor. I work with hundreds of contractors at work and when I needed my parent's house rebuilt from a house fire they had, I knew I wanted TBS to do the job. After Jay (the owner) came out to assess the damage and meet my parents, he won my parents over with his professionalism,his knowledge, and his friendliness. Very professional, knowledgeable and a great company to work with. When we were gathering the bids for the project, TBS Construction was not the lowest bid. What we noticed from their previous work is the quality and craftsmanship. Our family added on a 640 sq foot -two story addition to our house. A main living room, some kitchen work, a new office and a bedroom (downstairs). Also, added a larger deck and a patio. All in all, a dream my wife has had since buying the house in 1997. Working with Jay directly made the process operate smoothly and the insight from his crew during the process, helped tremendously. A majority of the work was done while my wife and I were at work, and the way this company took care of our house and our things, it was like it was their own. If you are needing any remodeling or repairs, then one can't go wrong in selecting TBS Construction.

TBS rebuilt our deck, added a screened in porch to the back of the house, and added a porch to the front of the house. They also repaired damage to the basement wall that was discovered during the construction project. TBS completed all the work using high quality material and craftsmanship. The railings on the deck used cabling to provide a clear view of Smith Mountain Lake and were topped with Trex boards to provide a smooth and long lasting surface. The back porch has provided a new and dramatic living area to the house; featuring a panoramic view of the lake and a soaring cathedral ceiling. Our neighbor commented that she had "porch envy" after spending some time on it. The front porch has given the house a much improved appearance and a much friendlier entrance to the house. This is the second project that TBS has completed for us, and they can be counted on for being easy to work with and for providing a high quality and funcional product.
