The Wood Studio

I provided Dario sketches for my mid century renovation for numerous millwork items. As an architect I was very exact in my expectations that were met fully by from intial concept through to final installation. Pure professional and important to my wife - not a spec of dust left behind.

Created a beautiful summer kitchen in our lower level, which was completely destroyed by water damage. They happily worked overtime to replace it in good time. I was delighted with the final product.

I had been looking for a unique desk for my home office for some time. I decided to reach out to The Wood Studio to build one for me. Elias not only built a wonderful desk for me, but also helped with an amazing design. He patiently took my ideas and came back with a plan that exceeded my expectations. The build quality is superb. It is a beautiful addition to my home office.

When we first moved into our new home everything was great except for the kitchen. Elias from The Wood Studio took our feedback and designed an amazing plan for our Kitchen which incorporated modern elements and natural materials maximizing light and space. As a collector of graphic novels, vintage comics, and artist's books, I needed an unusually shaped cabinet to house and display my large collection along a narrow passageway in my library. An ordinary bookshelf simply wouldn't suit the materials or fit the space. When I brought my relatively vague idea for this piece to The Wood Studio, Elias immediately intuited my aesthetic goal for it while suggesting how it could be realized (with a few brilliant modifications) in the material world. He made me feel like a creative collaborator on the project -- rather than a mere client -- which made the whole process much more enjoyable than the usual business of ordering furniture. Knowing my admiration for Japanese cabinetry, he came up with an elegantly simple design worthy of a temple in Kyoto. He first built two long rectangular boxes. Setting them on their side so that their interiors function as shelves for graphic novels while their top surfaces form a display counter for comic books (housed in open file boxes), he raised the two units about three feet off the floor on oak supporting structures which provide additional storage space for oversized items. He then cantilevered the boxes over the outer edges of the supports so that my large collection (which is fairly weighty) seems to float along the passageway. To enhance this effect, he ebonized the boxes with India ink and polished them with beeswax while the supports retained their natural colour (pale yellow) thanks to a spare application of linseed oil. The effect is truly stunning. I take pleasure in both the sleek design and the expert craftsmanship of this remarkable cabinet every time I show it off to visitors to my library.

The Wood Studio built and installed custom bookshelves and cabinetry for my den. They worked with me to find an elegant solution to hide necessary wiring for various electronic devices. The project turned out beautifully and it always garners many compliments. Their attention to detail was beyond thorough and I never doubted it would turn out perfectly. Can't wait to see what ideas Elias and Dario come up with for my new bathroom!

Dario and Elias were recommended by an architect/friend to build the cabinetry for our kitchen renovation and they certainly met our expectations. Our log house presented some challenges in terms of construction and material/colour/style choices We appreciate the solid cabinet construction, suggestions for features (e.g. deep drawers) and willingness to involve us in the details and to make changes we requested. We are very pleased with the results - the kitchen is now updated but still in keeping with the log home style. Both Elias and Dario were pleasant and professional to work with and we enjoyed working with them.
