We have a beach cottage in Manhattan Beach and needed to replace an oven that died. Since our previous kitchen designer missed the fact that our old oven was an outdated size, we needed to redesign an area of the kitchen to fit a new oven. The contractor that did the remodel was booked for the next 4 months, so I asked around. A local architect recommended Thomas and that's where the story begins. • Thomas came over the next day and helped us come up with a great solution for the oven and then he said "what else can we do?" So, he replaced all of the cheap doors inside the house, built two custom folding doors and small french doors for the master bedroom entrance. He recommended a mantle and trim for our rock fireplace and a butcher block island for our small kitchen with lots of storage. He also designed an built a folding interior hardwood shutter system for an opening between our den and living room allowing us to close the areas off when entertaining. He also built a beautiful armoire for our bedroom with a classic tropical look. • Then we had a kid, so we called Thomas. He made a custom "Thomas" train table that was mounted on the wall with shelves inside it. When we needed the room we could fold up the table like a murphy bed. Then he made a beautiful hardwood desk for our son. • Recently we redesigned our yard and had an idea for a shed near our front entrance. The Landscape designer said it was a bad idea but we ran it by Thomas and he designed and built the focal point of our entrance, a gorgeous horizontal wood slatted shed with a bright green background. When we saw the bright green color that he chose, we were concerned, but when complete we were very happy, he's got a great eye. Of course while he was here he said "what else can we do?" So he re-stained and updated our kitchen cabinets including a new larger cabinet over our sink, built a front gate for our entrance walk, built a gorgeous platform bed with big hidden drawers and a headboard that matched the armoire that he built in our first session and two matching side tables. • As you can see we love Thomas. He's made our little beach house a designers showcase and his quality is a rare find in todays world. It stands up under the wear of children and his prices are extremely reasonable. • If you want to really see the quality, drop by his shop and see the beautiful hardwoods and the jointers and planers in action and enjoy the sights and smells of a true wood craftsman. • So there you have it, our secret is out.

We Built two Townhouses from scratch in Redondo Beach, CA. The places were designed to be coastal contemporary/transitional (but far more contemporary on the interior). Each was planned with open concept kitchens, dining, living rooms. Hampton Woodwork and Design did ALL of the cabinetry for both units (kitchens, baths, closets, etc). They did an incredible job! We worked with Thomas Winfree from the jump on the layout and design of our cabinets for both units. One unit was being built for sale (not builder grade, custom grade), and the other for us to live in (also custom). What makes Thomas unique from other cabinetry workers is that he has a very strong design eye. Every suggestion he made with regard to scale made the cabinet that much better. As an example, we have 12' ceilings in our master bedroom. We built a wall sized wardrobe cabinet, which also houses our TV. The cabinet came out like something you'd find in an elite hotel. We intended it to be from floor to ceiling. Thomas suggested a buildout in over the front of the top of the cabinet with puck lights to illuminate the cabinet (so the cabinet would not be floor to ceiling and looming over the room). My picture attached does not do it justice. He made many suggestions like this with regard to scale of pantry doors, etc, all throughout the place. It is easy for a carpenter to take direction and build a cabinet (we had 3 bids). Only Thomas took the time to properly scale everything for the design concepts. He also really educated us on small choices that make a contemporary difference that you would never know exactly why you like them more than a traditional cabinet (like high and deep toe-kicks that give a "floating look" on kitchen cabinets). We had a mix of cabinets, and all came out exceptionally. The cabinet choices were stain grade flat panel with very unique custom sand/grey colored doors in our kitchen, stained wood laminate in baths, paint grade doors, high gloss laminate, shaker, uplift doors, floating cabinets, etc. We sold the front unit off the market before it ever came on the MLS. Everyone who came through raved about the unit. We are very grateful to Thomas and his team. If you want it done with precision, on time, and high concept design.... I cannot recommend Thomas and his team highly enough!
