Top Tread Stairways builds two signature products for homeowners who want smart design, real craftsmanship, and something a little different: indoor wooden slides and alternating tread stairs. We've been doing it for 20 years and counting! Our indoor wooden slides bring craftsmanship, movement, and unforgettable joy into the heart of a custom home. These are handcrafted hardwood slides, built to feel intentional, elegant, and lasting — a signature feature for families building a one-of-a-kind home. Our alternating tread stairs are a space-saving stairway solution for lofts, cabins, tiny homes, attics, and secondary access points. Each alternating tread stair is custom-built to fit the home, the layout, and the homeowner's vision, offering a beautiful alternative to bulky staircases or awkward ladders. Founded by Clyde Martin in 2006, Top Tread Stairways also builds spiral staircases, ship ladders, mono-stringer stairs, custom railings, countertops, tables, and other fine wood projects — serving homeowners, builders, and designers nationwide. But at the heart of our work are two things: wooden slides that turn a home into a place people never forget, and alternating tread stairs that solve the hardest stair spaces in the house.

I contacted Clyde at Tom Trend Stairways after being encouraged by a business associate to have him help out with a proper stairway into my basement. The new stairway is not only beautiful made of red oak it is solid and sturdy with hand rails on both sides. I now feel safe and enjoy going up and down these stairs. The work was completed in one day. The workers were courteous and careful to pick up after themselves before leaving the job. I would recommend these craftsman without hesitation to family and friends.

Top Tread Stairway solved our very unique and challenging task, of building a staircase to access our storage loft. Their workmanship is top notch and the construction materials they offer, are good quality. We are throughly pleased with the staircase they built for us. We had Top Tread Stairways build a custom "alternating tread" staircase for our new house in Colorado. We love it! They shipped it unfinished in 2 pieces and our construction guys installed it and stained it and made an iron handrail for it. It is beautiful, well made and highly functional. We've had it for 3 years and it looks as good as the day it was new. It was the perfect solution for our situation because we didn't have the floor space for a traditional stair and this way we can access our basement easily. Everyone comments on it. A real conversation piece! They were professional every step of the way and the price was reasonable too! You can't go wrong with Top Tread Stairways.

Ordered a custom designed compact stair for attic access in 2024. My desired design was a little weird, but Top Tread happily worked through it with me, helped recommend appropriate changes to my original concept, and delivered a 3D model. Stairs were delivered on time, look great, and have worked out exactly as hoped!

We ordered the stairs to be heavy and beefy to match our house construction and they blend in perfectly. They are very sturdy. Clyde was wonderful to work with and helped us out with all of our questions. We couldn't be happier with the stairs!

Clyde is the most amazing and professional carpenter/contractor that I've ever dealt with. He's prompt and very accommodating and by far the best priced. Beautiful product, and great quality! I asked for highly figured wood, and I got it! Very impressed. The shipping container, was also very impressive. I can’t imagine, the product getting damaged. I had it shipped to Portland Oregon, with no problems. Over all, a great experience. Thanks Clyde!

Top Tread Stairways was there when I needed them! We were having our floors replaced including up a curved staircase and I really wanted new balusters put in rather urgently so they could work with the floor people. Top Tread Stairways responded to my request for help by sending Mike, he worked with the flooring guy, helped me select balusters that would look nice, keeping the original railing, and it turned out beautifully. Mike was pleasant and professional and the cost was very reasonable.

Clyde was great. We had an idea of what we wanted for updating our railing from the 70's but after talking with him changed our mind to an all wood railing. The railing ended up better than we expected. They where very clean and on time.
